Well you ever gonna return? If you’re forced to pay the resort fee and the valet is part of that forced fee I wouldn’t feel obligated to tip. Especially if it’s not actually some fancy “resort”

CivicBlues 01-31-2025 09:18 AM

Fucking resort fees in Canada now? GTFO with that shit. Refuse to pay, review bomb them. Put them on blast...call Global News. No more of this American bullshit seeping north where they're even charging resort fees in cities like Boston, NYC, etc.

punkwax 01-31-2025 09:20 AM

Tigh-Na-Mara has been charging resort fees for years.

Apparently Nevada just outlawed them

Canada should follow suit, pay more for nothing extra

Are you tipping the valet drivers? and if so, how much?

It's crazy that this hotel even has a resort fee. I've never heard of a resort fee outside of Las Vegas. Apparently there is a self park option that is free across the street.

Resort fees are increasingly common - when I was looking for a hotel in San Diego anything close to the water would have something especially the ones which had on site activities (pools, spa, tennis courts etc). Near Disneyland you'll see the same thing for a number of hotels (more expensive ones).

As for tipping the valet I just give a couple bucks and I do tip.

It's not them. Their website says they do not charge resort fees: https://tigh-na-mara.com/resort/faq

punkwax 01-31-2025 10:46 AM

Well then. My mistake! Thought they did..

Resort fees are definitely not just a Las Vegas thing. We looked a booking Hawaii recently and the resort fees were out of control.

I remember looking into this a while ago and over the past decade, resort fees have evolved into something that has nothing to do with guests paying for the use of amenities.

Essentially, by lowering the room rate, hotels get better ranking and more prominence on sites like Expedia and Travelocity.

Hotels are then required to pay those sites a commission on the booking. The commission is calculated off the room rate. The resort fee, however, is separate and the hotel gets to keep 100% of it.

I am surprised there aren't more hotels in Canada charging it, tbh.

As for tipping the valet, the cost of valet parking and the tip are two separate things, so yes I think tipping the valet is still customary. That said, it's pretty easy to not tip a valet, so I wouldn't sweat it. Just park and enjoy and if you choose to tip, do so on the way out.

HonestTea 01-31-2025 12:37 PM

Yep, resort fees are pretty common in Hawaii as well. They were outrageous!

quasi 01-31-2025 01:14 PM

I'm pretty sure resort fees are used by the hotels as a way of moving some of the room rate into the resort fee and skirting around the resellers like Priceline, Expedia and what have you giving them a smaller piece of the pie, this isn't a $275 a night it's $225 with a $50 resort fee that you'll pay when you check out.

I'd rather have them just show the real rate including all the fees but that's probably never going to happen.

It's The Beach Club Resort in Parksville. Nothing crazy.

Looks like Brampton is now the 3rd largest city in Ontario. 15% growth in 4 years!

I guess the municipal government will have to analyze their 3 boroughs:

Urban
Suburban
Turban

It’s not cheaper from Costco, but it happens to come with a bonus set (42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica, retail $65). If you want that set, great, but I’d prefer a straight discount over the bonus set. Can’t be bothered to sell it.

red kryptonite 02-01-2025 08:04 AM

hmmm then costco has the better deal.

EvoFire 02-01-2025 08:19 AM

The secondary set makes for great gifts for other kids. I just want the P1, but I can gift the Huracan away.

Hondaracer 02-01-2025 11:06 AM

lol jfc.. Tim hortons.. I avoid this place like the plague but wanted to grab some donuts because I’ve got to go to a meeting

She asks what donuts I want so I start selecting them

Half way through another guy comes up and says I can’t get the blueberry fritter or lemon donut because those are “specialty” donuts and have to be billed individually outside of the dozen

Holy fuck.. no wonder this place is in the state it is lol

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but they increased their profit share another 5% in 2024 over 2023 and have steadily grown yoy for the last 5 years.

Theres a lot of people with bad taste out there.
