Only reason I was there was because it was a birthday dinner for a friend and the only place that could host such a large party (25+ people). I had never been to that location before so it was odd to say the least when I saw how dark it was there and wondered if we were even at the right place lol. I remember way, way back when I went to the English Bay location which upon googling I see was closed around 2018.

Er, I should clarify. I drink white people tea LOL. And I prefer cheap over quality in this instance. I don't have the refined taste buds for fancy teas. I'm looking for loose leaf because it appears to be cheaper than buying the satchels.
Really just looking for a caffeine kick tbh. Can't drink coffee anymore lol and matcha is a premium ($$$$) product

Oh then all you need is a good cheap black tea.
Walmart - 2 pounds of Assam Black Tea. 12 bucks.

Get the bags of Indian tea (i.e. Tata or the one Qmx323 shared) and that should suffice.

I was 48 years old when I discovered that the lemon iced tea at HK cafes are nothing more than really strong black tea (specifically orange pekoe) and that I could make it myself at home super easily.

The mixing and the sheer amount of tea leafs being used to brew isn't something I can practically do on my own, so I continue to prefer the cafe-made stuff instead of DIY.
But the tea blend is more important when you are making HK milk tea. For HK lemon iced tea, the taste is somehow much easier to replicate on our own with just strong tea.

It's typically a blend of Ceylon for the dark, bold flavour, blended with Assam and some other black tea. The blends to each shop are proprietary unless you buy the commercialized stuff served in the chains. Orange pekoe alone won't replicate the same flavours from my own experience.

Now you guys are gonna send me down the rabbit hole of putting together my own blend for it. I've been using some of my downtime to learn how to make authentic Chinese meals - I figured out real dan dan noodles and did a pretty acceptable sweet and sour chicken recently so now I gotta figure out HK Lemon ice tea.

For HK Lemon tea, once you get the blend right, use yellow rock sugar, not white man sugar.

I know I sing their praises all the time, but Kam Ho in Richmond has the best c0t (cold "ling" tea) imo. Every other place is usually ok but something about their blend hits different and I inhale that whole cup way faster than I should because it's just that damn good!

the place in the aberdeen food court that is a few stores from the place that does bubble waffle as soon as you go up the escalator has the strongest milk tea ive ever tasted. back in the days you could get a large one for like $2 or $2.50. by the time i finished half of it i was having heart palpitations and had to throw it away. 10/10 recommend

Best milk tea is the one in lansdown. In that corner next to taco Luis. They use a real silk sock to filter the tea and it’s thick and creamy. Very delicious !!’ I should know, I’m basically a Guangdong bastard now

Lemon tea can't do zero sugar, but will do less sugar.
