OH! Today I had the Maple Bacon Cheeseburger from Save On. It's $2 more so $13.99 but oooooo boy it was well worth that $2! The bacon was good quality, crispy and not the paper thin bullshit they serve at Mcd's etc. The maple sauce added a nice sweetness to the overall savoury experience. We also tried the Funguy Cheeseburger (not a typo), also $13.99 but the Maple Bacon is where it's at. Give it a try boys

I was removing a wheel the other day and my hubcentric rings rusted onto the wheel hub, so I had to chisel it out.

There's a few different ones on Amazon like copper, silver, and aluminum. I'm guessing probably aluminum?

i kinda wish i knew more about astronomy and maybe invest in a telescope to add to my list of kooky hobbies.

I recently bought a mirrorless canon R50 camera and I've been going nuts shooting my dog, spy balloon and food. I just got a nice tripod and took up night photography now. The kit lens was pretty useless so I got a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 (constant) lens for 1000 bucks. Now she takes great photos!





all the moon shots were taken at 50mm x the crop sensor 1.6 x 4x digital zoom. Not the prettiest photo but hell, beats buying a telephoto lens at 1k for no reason

Earlier in the month, it was Venus and Saturn near the moon one night, It's usually been Jupiter and Mars lately.

Right now, the reddish 'star' to the right of the moon is Mars. In the SE you can see Jupiter, Venus is the bright pip in the west. Saturn's hard to see without a telescope/binoculars currently as the rings are edge-on to us.

I think - speaking generally - educational institutions facilitate people to learn / apply problem solving, but don't explicitly teach it or test for it.

This was my experience: we were taught just the core basics. We essentially learned how to read and write in our field, so that we could at least understand and communicate in that world. The material and expected outcomes were very much "here are the standard building blocks: how well do you know it?".

In the final year, a little more time was spent discussing what you could do with those blocks, what the tradeoffs were depending on the application, and the success criteria shifted more towards "there are a thousand ways to solve this problem and they all work: how much better is what you've come up with, and how novel is it?". Still, you could get by without really trying to be all that inventive.

I personally learned a lot from the open-ended lab components of my classes where you had to do stuff like come up with circuitry to take an analog TV signal and display it to an oscilloscope, using a random handful of components: this was like building something with Lego, freeform, with random limited pieces. There are lots of ways to do it, and you feel compelled to make it less and less shitty: get a sharper image, less geometric distortion, improve contrast. And you've only got so many of each type of piece. You can really learn the nuances, being forced to try and literally see what the tradeoffs are.

I was also able to preemptively learn on the job, because of school: I was lucky in that my school has a very strong co-op program. I wound up at BlackBerry, and got to design some of the processor interfacing on the Q40, which was kind of a similar idea in having a lot of different options, but being limited in constraints and being put in a position to weigh the tradeoffs. But this time in the real world.

I really think with school, you get what you put into it. There's a lot of stuff that can get you thinking, a lot of knowledge that you might not've otherwise had access to, and lots of industry opportunities that you may not have even known existed.

Obviously for someone like yourself, you really didn't need school to get where you wanted to go. The vast majority of people I think are not as fortunate .

I've always used Permatex silver blend but needs mixing periodically otherwise it separates.

i can't even get my grade 6 nephew to sit down at a desk doing homework. They are there to just do homework but no critical thinking or trying to understand. Just cause you do homework doesn't mean you understand the logic and theory behind things.
