This whole thing sounds weird. Why were they setting up a tent? and why would you get compensation?
This clarifies further. They couldn't find a hotel, so they were attempting to camp.
I don't understand how these travelers think it's safe to "camp" out in these villages. Similar thing happened to a woman in Morocco and South Africa.
Don't camp in villages in any of these types of places, shit you can run into these types of issues camping on beaches in many of these countries.
Horrible incident, but god damnit, don't randomly camp out in these countries, there is no security, and in these remote areas there is no one to help you if something arises.

you can see the power aboard the boat switched on and off, but the thick black smoke coming out of it meant it was under power when it collided with the bridge.
The video that I saw, you see it lose power, then power comes back on with black smoke pouring out of stacks, then it loses power again, then hits bridge.
yah ... power on and off for a tanker prob means lost of control of ship for prob the last 10-20 mins. They don't turn on a dime ... not as if when power comes back on, it can avoid the pillar of bridge.

P.s. its probably because the injectors failed and the engine stopped. All the steamship lines had to convert to this new ultra low sulfur bio diesel and the older engines do not run well with that stuff. I talked to a lot of captains who have had glitches, stalls, engine problems with this stuff.
