I had some time today so I went to meet up with one of the dudes for an info session for the lulz.... turns out it was with like four other people and we read some kinda pamphlet. He was almost conducting five interviews at the same time and asking questions and then person after person he would kinda tell her/him to leave...
I ended up being the last person standing and the dude said he was gonna set me up for a chat with the VP of his company tomorrow morning
The internship happens to be run by College Works Painting Internship, House Painting | CollegeWorks.com (he lied bout the company website when he called me)
Throw it into google and you get a shitload of hits
Some people call it a scam, some people call it a shitload of hard work and the best case scenario you make ~20% of the business you run.. (they say an average joe runs a 50g business) nothxjeff CollegeWorks Painting - College Confidential Anyone heard of the College Works Painting internship? Need input. (srs, reps) - Bodybuilding.com Forums
Gonna call him later and say thanks but no thanks
Just a warning for RSers to not waste your time with this, unless you wanna work 40+ hours a week and get chump change back (and you gotta pay for gas). It's explained better in the above threads. There are better "legit" internships out there

+1 its not even worth it in my opinion. There's another one is called Student Works.
I work for a Paint company, I meet these students all the time during the summer that work. Some I can tell right away will not make it due to their lack of responsibility and organization. It is not a scam for sure, you do make money and you can make a lot of money but that percentage is very low. They like to throw at you with big numbers and make you think you can do the same but in reality that percentage is very low. It also varies if the summer offers a lot of jobs, if there isnt then that will factor in your profit. There are a lot of other factors that will need to be accounted for in your profit as well.
Take a look at this plan : http://www.studentworks.ca/opportunity-earnings.htm
They even provide you with a line of credit, making you think they got you covered. Think about what happens if you lose money and then you owe them money? I dont know how it goes, but I am pretty sure they make you pay interest or make you work for them next summer and promote their company...
Painting is laborious, your body will ache. You will want to take shortcuts to save time. Problems will occur and you got to deal with it. I dont think its worth it, even if you do get experience in operating your own franchise.
If you think you are up to the challenge, then go ahead sign the contract with them.
One time, a student said to me that they want to quit school because he made a lot of money while painting.
I ...

That's funny cause the dude was like nah man, you never do the painting you are just watching over several sites, you go back and forth you know to monitor your business
Then you read some threads and people say they end up having to go door to door almost to sell the idea of re-painting the houses like a marketer and do estimates (I bet this sucks bad if you can't find customers)
Some even say they worked on weekends too or 70 hour weeks
Not worth it

Not worth it | well you can do that, you get your friends to work for you. Make them do all the work while you sit and watch.See if they would mind LOL....
They give you an area where you control and most likely you will have to go find jobs on your own if there isnt any from them to provide you with, or else you wont make money. You have good connections and promoting abilities to help you find work.

How is painting even considered an internship?... its just manual labor in my opinion.
If you want a real internship, do yourself a favor and enter the actual faculty co-op program. Depending on the job, salaries can be very generous plus the useful experiences later on.

well it could but not with this kind of way. The company is wanting money instead of helping students. They dont teach you shit when you are on jobsites. You're on your own. I rmr during the summer, the students would keep asking me what to do on the things they fucked up on.

Sauder coop is pretty good. Lynne and Laura are the best. Their workshops are pretty neat too. Teach you a lot of things. Posted via RS Mobile |

I went to one of the interviews too (had to walk to the fucking life sciences building from sauder in 2 degree weather) . Was the second last left standing when he told me "i'm gonna do something a little different with you" and then he handed me his card and told me to call back at a very specific time. I was always extremely skeptical of the whole internship thing to start and was surprised he even told me to call him since he told everyone else to just leave. This was after I kept pressing him about the company history and things a student usually doesn't ask about a company he's applying for an internship for.
I thought the whole thing was a pyramid scheme kinda thing to start (nuskin kinda deal), but I guess its a bit different. Surprised at how gullible some of the other people being interviewed were though..

^i actually don't mind at all.
I'd trade waking up at 6 to get to 8am classes anyday for studying late for finals and waking up whenever the hell i want.
