My program uses "Fixed" Standard Timetables in that they directly state that, and I quote, "Changes and/or dropping courses are not allowed. Students must take all components of this STT."
By that token, am I required to use STT's when registering for courses? I don't want to take a full course load because I want to volunteer to EUS and participate in a student engineering team. I'm thinking of leaving off the english and elective requirements until the summer months. So probably bringing down the course load from 5 or 6 courses per term to just 3 or 4.
Also, since we cannot drop courses, does that mean we have to take F's instead of withdrawing from a course if we're getting overwhelmed? That doesn't seem right...
Any help? Thanks guys and girls!! | Not sure if it changed from a few years ago when I did it but I basically just registered for an STT and then just dropped the courses (also known as sections) that I wasn't going to do at that time.
There's lots of reasons why people can't do all the STT courses at once: not having the time or desire, not having a pre-req required for one of the courses, already finished one of the courses, etc. So like I said, unless things have changed drastically since I did it a few years ago it shouldn't be that restrictive.
The only issue is cobbling together courses that you need or want in later terms that are restricted to people taking a set STT and also making timetables work. Expect to do a lot of chatting with profs, department staff, and Engineering Student Services about getting into courses (especially that are required for grad) that you wouldn't otherwise have issues registering for.

Hey does anyone know of any good (preferably easier) upper level science electives? Need something to boost up my GPA. Have EOSC 326 and 340, but I don't really want to take them. I can't do life science b/c that's not "breadth" as that's part of the degree stuff I'm already studying. I hear IHHS classes are good but not sure if they are science

@person thinking of taking FNH 200: Do it, taking it right now. Its very low maintenance.
@person confused about coop: I just got accepted into comp sci coop. To be honest it makes a lot of sense to me to grad with some experience in the field, regardless if you go into grad school or not. Plus, the cash is really helpful (unless your ballin') | who are you taking FNH 200 with?! I'm registered with Azita something or another. How are you finding the group work? That's my biggest qualm with school. I hate group work. Working with useless people is the biggest waste of time ever.

How many credits do you need to transfer to another faculty? I was hoping to transfer within a term.

I loved group work... although I took the class with 5 of my friends LOL so that may have been a factor. The best part was doing the quizzes together, oh man.
But I agree I hate group work sometimes, since I'm in comp sci had to do a lot of group projects with retards (tryhards/dumbasses) I did NOT like at all.

So UBC won't let us buy a parking permit for a parkade if we have unpaid parking tickets? They are getting smarter... does anyone know a way around this?
edit: lol nevermind figured it out.

Arrived at 9:30 and first time every parking space in front of the sub was empty in the two years I've been here there was a large delivery truck that drove away just as I pulled up to the spaces though, so that might explain it.

Bookstore is such a gongshow right now. Staying as far away as I can from there. Went there on the second day of class, huge mistake. Nearly got trampled.

It's not too bad when you're there around opening. Kinda picks up shortly after though. Not sure you want to fight the crowds, but the gf says the lineup moves constantly, so it's not too bad.

I stopped buying books after 2nd year. Depends on your faculty, but for Biz, most profs don't teach based on textbook at all. They'll tell you to buy it because the school tell them to but you will do fine without. They tries to sneak a couple homework based on text here and there, announcing "next quiz will based on text" but everything is in the lecture. This applies to some Arts class as well. Google and Wiki are (or have been) making textbooks obsolete.
Who the fck could afford upward 1000 on books per year that you can only sell back for peanuts after anyways.

Found a lot of books online as well (yay cpsc), but never had any problems buying and selling used at all. Most of the time break even, worse case lose a few bucks. Have made more on ocassions too but never count on that happening
