| Speeding ticket in Oregon
So i got a speeding ticket while in the states doing an 85 in a 65mph zone, and am wondering what happens if i dont pay it. I obviously will not appear in court in the states so the only other option is to send a written appearance and a cheque. But i am here to find out what happens if it goes unpaid since it is not in canada.

Don't worry bro, nothing will happen.
Breaking a law in the States is totally fine, cause I'm from Canada |

Just pay up, dude. You don't want the hassle at the border the next time you're there.

In the US, when a peace officer issues you a ticket and you sign it, you are promising either to pay it or go to court to dispute it. So if you don't pay the fine or attend court, the fine will often increase depending on how long the ticket has been outstanding for.
The courts can also charge you with "contempt of court" or "failure to pay a fine." If that happens, the court may charge you with a misdemeanor and issue a warrant for your arrest and add an additional fee (called a "civil assessment") of up to $250.
I don't understand why people risk having an arrest warrant issued in their name over a few hundred dollars. So if you plan on returning to the US, pay the fine.

My uncle didn't pay and he went down to fill up gas. When he did, they arrested him and had to pay all his fees and bail. Spent about 3 days in jail! HAHAHA

My friend had a ticket from Washington State that was unpaid for 10 years and he eventually got a letter from them saying he was exonerated. He now travels into Washington without a problem (not that he ever had problems getting into the US).
I have one from Oregon that is unpaid from several years ago and I travel to the states all the time except I let someone else drive when I'm in Oregon. Never had a problem in the US. My current and previous job both ran criminal record checks on me and ticket didn't show up on either check.
FWIW, I pay my Washington tickets. The Oregon ticket is only unpaid due to a bit of a long story.

if you speed in the states, just pay the tickets... not worth the hassle. 40km's over in the states will be cheaper than what it would cost in BC |
