| Places to do Painting of Headlight Housing
I want to paint the inside of my headlights black, but was wondering if there were some places I can bring my car into and get it done there...
Anyone know any places and possible price range?

Please don't do it. The paint will likely crack from the heating and will cause you some major headache.
That and you'll be back on here when you get VI'ed.

^ thought you don't get VI'd if the inside of your headlight is black?
isn't it only when you have something covering the headlight? (not painting the clear part of the headlight)

So, you're spending this money and taking the time to make your headlights less effective and illegal and you're doing this because??????????? You do know that the shiny chrome stuff you are painting black reflects the light from the bulbs don't you?

holy christ....why are you guys so bitchy?...this isn't a fucking zanga forum. I'm pretty sure the OP wants the surround bezels painted; not the actual reflectors in the headlight.

Some newer cars with HIDs no longer have that shiney stuff around the headlight, he just wants the paint around the bezel to be body colored like a C6.

+1 for N-Motion,
But If you don't mind getting your hands a bit dirty its pretty straight forward to do yourself.
I did about 6 sets of headlights including paint. Just make sure you get some automotive window sealant from lordo. They need to be sealed good or else it'll fog up (ASSUMING yours at sealed together..)
here's my recent custom set I did:

I did this on my RSX and it looked really good IMO. Some people even painted it a more "JDM" bronze colour, but I think glossy black looks better.
It's pretty easy, and if you follow instructions and aren't an idiot, you won't ruin anything.

used it on my valve cover which should be way hotter than a bulb housing, no sign of cracking at all for 13 years and counting ...

Posted via RS Mobile | Zulutango is a mod-nazi but no reason to go off on him. He's fairly unfamiliar with headlight painting and probably assumed it was about painting the reflectors inside the housing. He does provide other valuable info when it comes to the law.
Anyways, op you got 3 options.
1. DYI - which, if you're not handy, I do no recommend you do
2. Shop to do it - keep in mind you'll need to surrender your car for a few days.
3. Buy a set of housings that are already black with or without the rest of the headlight Posted via RS Mobile |

ZT is a great guy on this forum, and I respect his advice. BUT..... he is former police, and as such stresses that the laws are for our safety. The truth is, opening your headlights voids their approval for road use by Transport Canada. It's illegal, and while it looks good, we need him to tell us the other side of the coin, rather than have us post "Why they take my car for VI?" in the police forum. |

It's $65 for the download.
That said, I have modified headlights, and haven't been hassled yet. However, all it takes is for one cop with a clue to see it, and you have a box 1 VI. You have to ask yourself if it's worth the chance. It was for me. |
