^ wow that's cool....

guys right now pc is connected via hdmi to my big screen tv, i wanted to know if I'm able to hook up another monitor using the free dvi plug in order for both my big screen and monitor to display the same image ??
so dvi going into my monitor and hdmi going into my big screen ??
they both are going to be running the same resolution 1080p so there's no conflicts there...

it's for times when wifey wants to watch tv, i can just sit over on the desk use my monitor freeing up the tv for her

^ yea bro, gettin the wifey nagging off your back is a dream come true, lol...
right now as I type this, she's quiet as a mouse layin on the couch watchin her bullshit reality shows... me no care, headphones on music on

well I was recommended a HDMI splitter by the Memory Express guy and I was hesitant going with that as opposed to my original plan of just doing the DVI, and it turns out I was right, $30 for this splitter and piece of shit worked for like 5 minutes I had identical image going into both displays, and then it crapped out and wouldnt work anymore, it's a StarTech.com splitter btw,

he said I got 7 days to return it so I'll just switch it for a DVI plug this time around do it my way

Hi all, I haven't built a computer in over 6 years and needed a new one so I decided to give it a try. This would be for gaming and would like some suggestions/critiques on this current setup I have picked.
My budget is around $1100-$1300 so please play around where you see fit.
Thanks a lot!

* PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1AxrL

* CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($214.99 @ NCIX US)
* Motherboard: ASRock H87 Pro4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($92.98 @ SuperBiiz)
* Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($72.13 @ TigerDirect)
* Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($122.99 @ NCIX US)
* Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.98 @ Outlet PC)
* Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB Video Card ($329.99 @ Amazon)
* Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN951N 802.11b/g/n PCI Wi-Fi Adapter ($29.98 @ Outlet PC)
* Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Newegg)
* Power Supply: SeaSonic 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($79.99 @ Newegg)
* Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($15.99 @ Microcenter)
* Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($88.88 @ Outlet PC)
* Total: $1157.89

Not sure if I should get the GeForce GTX660ti or the GTX760. Any recommendations?

do you plan to overclock?

330 for 660Ti is very overpriced...760 is faster and retails for $250

^^ If you are going to purchase everything in canada us this following link

Intel Core i5-4670, Asus GeForce GTX 660 Ti, Cooler Master HAF 912 - System Build - PCPartPicker Canada

your total comes to $967.65 + video card price ( Your video card doesn't have a price)

- TwitchyZero is right. you can save almost 100$ if you wait for the right sale.

- Also note that the seasonic PSU is not compatible with Haswell C3 lower power state. So you wont be able to utilize that feature

- I would rather take a Gigabyte D3H for 100$ on sale

^
Gigabyte Z87X-D3H ATX LGA1150 Z87 DDR3 3PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 HDMI CrossFireX/SLI SATA3 USB3.0 Motherboard

Would suffice your needs.

question: what monitor setup are you going to run? Gaming in what resolution? What else are you going to do with your computer? Your choice in video card should factor in these options

Will just use a single 21.5" LCD and mostly for gaming. I looked at ncix and the 660ti is cheaper than the 760 and also $100 cheaper than my original price: Buy Video Cards in Canada, ASUS Video Cards, Buy Computer Hardware
Is it still worth getting the 760?

I'm just using this as a price reference, I'll be buying in HK which is still more expensive for the compete build.

I don't know how some of you guys do your cable management so neat, I really don't see any other way to make mine any more neat. I've tucked and routed every cable as far as they can go.... what would it take ? cable wire extensions..... ? special type of power supply with different cables or what?

lol holy shit
route it behind the mobo tray and have just enough so it can reach the connectors
here's mine...not very helpful since it doesnt show the backside
Spoiler!

760 is supposed to cost the same as 660ti...if it's just a little more it's worth it

^^ Your PSU should be flipped. all the non modular cable tucked in the back. Then start work with your fan cables and sata cables/etc. Mine is fully tucked without a problem and it look super sleek.

Flip the PSU is #1 all the cables should reach from the back with the exception of the 4/8pin for the CPU which you will need to get an extender if you route this cable to the back

case #1 I think this was a thermaltake scorpian

surprisingly never overheaded

case #2 Antec P180

case #3 NZXT 810 Switch

the back

lol

Kept up sizing my cases and made it easier with more room to route the cables

Does anyone use a 120hz monitor for gaming? I'm trying to decide whether or not to get one, is the difference really noticeable when playing FPS? I'm thinking of either getting the BenQ xl2420t or the ASUS VG248QE

Holy shit!

Like others said, your PSU is upside down. Also the cables go behind the motherboard tray. I know I am just repeating what others are saying but holy shit!

I am really lazy with my routing.. here's my latest example:

not too hard
only have what you need popping out, with the rest tucked in the back

uh oh oh....

thinking of getting the 500gb ssd drive from samsung.
Samsung 840 Evo Series MZ-7TE500BW 500GB 2.5in SATA III Internal SSD Single Unit Version

not bad for $389.98 & should be plenty for games/OS and photoshop programs.

Are you referring to Dell Ultrasharps here? or something else?

The cheapest I've seen for a 24" Dell Ultrasharp is $269. Seems like it has been holding at that price for quite a long time now.
