AMD HD7K SOUTHERN ISLANDS spec's are out: More AMD HD7900 GCN (Southern Island) Details Leaked: Frequencies, Prices and Release dates Quote:
Recent announcements and presentations from AMD suggest that the much anticipated 28nm Radeon HD7900 Series Graphic Cards will be launching in Q1 2012 (Jaunuary 2012). Other than the release dates, Technical specs which include frequencies and Next Gen GNC Core Architecture details have also been leaked.
According to a post by NordicHarware which detailed that the launch of AMD’s HD7000 Series is expected on 5th December 2011 however that was revealed to be a Press Conference in London of the cards rather than a launch exhibition as later unveiled by Fudzilla. Following are the specs of the HD7900 Series Graphic Cards:
GCN HD7970 (XT Tahiti):
The HD7970 is based on the 28nm Tahiti XT core and would be the fastest single chip GPU of the 7000 Series. It features a massive 2048 Cores (Shader Processors) or 32 CU (Compute Units),128 texture units and the core frequency is maintained at 1Ghz. One bad news is that AMD has ruled out the use of Rambus XDR2 memory and is reusing the 1.37 GHz GDDR5 quad data rate, ie at 5.5 GHz of bits used by these GDDR5 384-bit will result in 3 GB of RAM.
This means that the HD7970 would feature a record memory bandwidth of 264 GB / s against 174GB / s of HD6970. Pricing of the card would be set at $449 US.
GCN HD7950 (Pro Tahiti):
Just like its elder brother, The HD7950 would be based on the Pro version of the Tahiti Core which features 1920 cores (30 UCs), 120 texture units while the core frequency is maintained at 900Mhz. The GPU would feature a 3GB memory running at 5Ghz along a 384-bit wide memory interface. Memory bandwidth is rated at 240GB / s. Pricing of the HD7950 is expected around $349 US.
Both 7900 Series based HD7970 and HD7950 would be launched at the CES 2012 Event in Las Vegas, From 10 to 13 January.
GCN HD7990 (New Zealand):
Last up would be the flagship dual core monstrosity HD7990 codenamed New Zealand. The HD7990 would feature Dual HD7970/HD7950 Cores. The Core clock would be set around 900Mhz as rumored by BSN and the memory capacity would be set at 6GB (3GB x 2).
Pricing of the card would be similar to the HD6990 at $699 which is outstanding considering the performance leap the southern island GPU’s have to feature. Expect the launch of this dual core beast in March 2012.
While AMD is all focused in launching their HD7000 Series as early as possible, The Green Team at Nvidia is also preparing its Kepler Series graphic cards which are set to feature twice the performance increase then Fermi. Check em out here.

where did he get his price figures from?
$450 is steep compared to the 6970, no?
but i guess since they'll likely have the market domination for 6 months with a brand new architecture they could probably justify this price?

That video card is way way way way overkill for 1680. You probably don't need to spend more than $120 or so at that res. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=59445&...e&promoid=1311 |

metro 2033 is a graphics intensive game..it's pretty much the new crysis. it requires 580 SLI to max out the video settings IIRC

I'd still go for a 6950 1GB... Metro 2033 is a b*tch to run with everything turned on. Otherwise the system looks good - except for the hard drive.
You don't want to be running an OS drive using a WD GREEN. They are way too slow. You will regret it.
My advice is spring for a SSD OS drive - good prices for them - and then pick up a hard drive later when you have more options as the shortages ease.
Wait until Boxing Day if you can. Stuff will be cheaper then.

That power supply is also overkill. Get this instead NCIX.com - Buy Antec Earthwatts Green Series 380W ATX12V 80PLUS Bronze *No Pwr Cord* - ANTEC - EA380D GREEN - in Canada
Switch your ram to this http://www.ncix.ca/products/?sku=578...n&promoid=1311
Take that money you saved, and get this motherboard instead. Since you will be overclocking, you will want more than 4 phase VRM to the CPU http://www3.ncix.ca/products/?sku=61...cture=Gigabyte
And yes, don't get a Green, get a 500GB black. You will lose 100GB or whatever, but it will be much faster http://ncix.com/products/?sku=65758&...20Digital%20WD |

ok, Im thinking 6870 for metro 2033,
50fps on those settings is good enough I guess
and use the money to get a wd black and that ram you suggested
If I try Crossfire later will I need a higher power supply, b/c thats why I went with that mobo and 750W supply (its on sale too)

may as well get a momentus XT (hdd/ssd hybrid) no? dont depend on what im saying im clueless http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX36731 (edited much cheaper on memoryexpress)
the 500gb xt was faster than the black and this new 750gb is supposed to be better than the 500 as the ssd portion is larger

50 FPS minimum is fantastic.

What do you guys use your SSDs for? I'm thinking of getting one for the OS and all but other than that is it worth it if all im going to use it for is that? I usually only play single player games that require high end specs never multi (until i can get dota 2 -__-) so I most likely won't be installing any games on it and other than that I mainly use my computer for music production and recording. Any thoughts?

It'd decrease the OS loading time, program load times, file access, and that's probably about it. The storage space is at a premium, so you likely wouldn't be storing any large number of files on it anyway. If you put your single player games on it, they'd load fast as hell; it's actually more useless for multi player actually, you'll finish loading but the others still take forever lol. If you want to spend the money on it then do so, but it's likely not worth the cost for most people.
I should probably note that there's a few SSD companies that have serious reliability issues right now. Google before you buy.
For hypercube: ditch the eco. Just get something like a Hyper 212+ if it'll fit, it'll be just as quiet, cool just as well, and cost you only $20. The self contained water cooling systems like that are nice if your case is small, but they only cool as well as a decent heatsink at a few times the cost.

SSD makes everything go faster. I edit photos faster I surf the internet faster I even fap faster.
Intel SSD and Crucial M4 Micron are the two most reliable drive brands on the market at the moment. Sandforce controller has many issues. Posted via RS Mobile |

So I need some feedback too please!
Im building this computer to essentially replace my dying laptop.
I'm going to be hooking it up to 2 monitors I have already. Potentially 3 in the future
I'm primarily going to be using this station for web dev: that includes
-coding (with some IDE or even Dreamweaver for just pure webpages)
-Adobe CS5.5 family products
So this is not a gaming machine! I get way too easily addicted to games, so i've had to lay off installing any on my PC
I went with the A8 because it seemed decent with integrated graphics.
Not completely sold on it though as the processor itself seems weak
I'm also on a fairly tight budget. It's nice that it comes with integrated graphics
AMD A8-3850 $140
ASUS F1A75-V Pro ATX FM1 $110
Antec EarthWatts EA-380D GREEN ATX12V $45
intel 320 gen3 80gb $139.66
Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3K2 8 gig $36.99
D-LINK DWA-556 Xtreme N Desktop Adapter $42.29
TOTAL 513.94
-I have an old Antec Sonata II case lying around. I bought it probably 6-8 years ago...but it should be fine right?
-And as Hard drive prices are ridiculous right now, im going to hold off. I have a 160gb spare seatgate drive lying around also from 6-8 years ago, and a 2TB NAS
-I also have a nvidia 7950 GT KO lying around. Is this something thats worth using in a build? (i could reconfigure it if so)
-And yes...i need a wireless adapter lol. thats one of the cheaper non usb ones i could find. I've never tried a usb WLAN adapter though (they are really cheap though)
sorry for turning this into my life story, but any comments guys?
