$45 after MIR for this 700W 80+ Bronze single rail PSU:

Cooler Master I700 700w 80+ Bronze ATX 12V V2.3 Power Supply 20/24PIN

Cooler Master normally isn't a brand I'd prefer, but at $45 after MIR, I'd have to say it is quite a good price.

What games are you trying to play btw?

Diamond Multimedia Radeon 7870 7870PE52GV Review

asian_XL 10-14-2013 05:41 AM

people say the 7870 is almost as good as the new r9 270x

SkinnyPupp 10-14-2013 06:46 AM

The R9 270X is the 7870, just relabeled. The stock mem clock is 1400 MHz rather than 1200, and the stock clock is 1050 MHz instead of 1000.

DragonChi 10-14-2013 07:24 AM

I never realized that the 270X was a 7870 relabelled. I really hope that BF4 gets bundled with the card when it gets released.

SkinnyPupp 10-14-2013 07:40 AM

Yup and the 280X is just a rebadged 7970 (typo fixed). And the R7 260X is a rebadged 7790 (though it does have an audio DSP). Other than the price and the name (and no free games are included) they are pretty much 100% the same.

The 280X got a big price drop from the 7950 though, and is easily the best card for $300. The GeForce 760 sits at $250, right between that and the $200 270X. But it is closer to the 270X than the 280X, so Nvidia will have to drop the price on it. That should hopefully drive the 660 down (once it is rebaded 750 Ti)

The only cards with new silicon will be the R9 290 and 290X. They have been delayed though, and stock will possibly be very limited, at least for the 290X.

DragonChi 10-14-2013 07:58 AM

I thought they dropped the price of the 660 down already to $180 from $200.

lol, now I'm hoping for price wars again!

280X is a 7950 eh? and they're selling the 280x for 300? I see current 7950's go for about 200-250 right now. They seem to be bumping up the price.

Same with the 7870's I see them at sub 200 frequently.

Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SSD $79.99

Could try price matching at other places. Memory Express already sold out.

Shit sorry for the typo, I meant 7970. It's actually clocked lower than the 7970, but is $300 MSRP rather than $400 or whatever.

DragonChi 10-15-2013 03:57 AM

I see. I wonder if mantle will work with the old cards too. More interesting is how much of an impact it'll make when it gets implemented. We'll find out in December eh. haha

SkinnyPupp 10-15-2013 05:06 AM

Mantle will work on any card with GCN architecture.

Mr.HappySilp 10-15-2013 08:50 AM

Sigh just got the EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Superclocked 1046MHZ 2GB over the summer and it looks like it will be outdated soon ><

even those the R series is a rebadged 7xxx series.. is power consumption better?

hotshot1 10-15-2013 05:46 PM

What gpu under $300 would you guys recommend? How's the 760?

I want to upgrade from my 560 ti.

Yeah it should be for all of them.

R9 power consumption should be slightly better since it only goes to full speed during turbo mode.

What do you guys think of Solid State Hybrid Drive for desktop?

I'm running out of space for my applications and games. Looking to upgrade my second HD. Any recommendations?

Traum 10-15-2013 11:01 PM

Personally, I would only consider a hybrid drive if the PC / laptop has a single drive bay. For a desktop, I think you'd be much better off with a SSD + conventional HDD combo.

knight604 10-15-2013 11:47 PM

What kind of fucking games are you playing , needing to upgrade all the time?

I wouldn't bother. If you really want, you can throw on a 32GB SSD and use that as a cache.

Might be suitable for laptops with only one bay

Akinari 10-16-2013 03:21 PM

Have been eyeing a 7950 to replace my 1GB 7850 for some time now, and even more so than before now that prices are going down

But it'd probably be smarter spend the money to replace my ancient CPU (Phenom II 965 Black Edition @ 4.0GHz) with something newer like an 8320...

FerrariEnzo 10-16-2013 11:25 PM

the 1GB ram on your video is really not enough for gaming these days.. min 2gb.. more would be better...

Cman333 10-17-2013 09:33 AM

Thinking of SLI'ing 670's. What do you guys think I need for PSU? Running i7 cpu, 2 HDD, 1 SSD, 8GB ram, and some LED strip lighting.

Currently using TX650 PSU.....not sure if that's enough.

I ran SLI 560ti's with no issues before.
