skinny, have you reviewed the asus p9x79-e WS board? thinking of getting this board for my lga2011 chip

SkinnyPupp 10-17-2013 04:04 PM

Nope I haven't covered X79 much TBH

Find out what the MOSFETS are, and what PWM it uses and I can give you an opinion on it

Currently using TX650 PSU.....not sure if that's enough.

I ran SLI 560ti's with no issues before.

i'm on 750W 80+Gold with 670 sli and a closed loop cooler

670 TDP is 170W...i'd say you're probably fine stock settings but once you touch voltage for overclock then it might not be enough.

Also, if i were interested in getting this built as a new set up, what would I be missing? What would building costs be like?

That's a water cooling set up. Not something for beginners and not something a lot of people could do. It's also missing a video card and a case from what I can tell.

nvidia's feeling the heat from AMD so they released a few nice things today
G-Sync: Nvidia G-Sync puts processors inside your PC monitor to reduce stutter and lag | The Verge
GTX 780Ti: AnandTech | NVIDIA Announces GeForce GTX 780 Ti; Shipping In Mid-November
shadowplay:

g-sync is pretty innovative and the 1st hand reactions seems overwhelmingly positive...i hope it works across all games and the chip itself is inexpensive.

DragonChi 10-18-2013 01:55 PM

Aww I thought G-sync a solution to the 30hz problem on 4K HDMI 1.3a monitors.

SkinnyPupp 10-18-2013 06:14 PM

Nvidia aims to eliminate screen tearing with G-Sync

First G-Sync monitor is a new version of the the Asus VG248QE. It will cost $400 (the current version costs around $280)

twitchyzero 10-18-2013 06:45 PM

G-Sync works across all games :notbad:
$175 for the DIY kit :heckno:
not compatible with majority of the monitors currently on the market :okay:

How do you guys usually clean computers? I got a ton of dust trapped on my fans and cpu heaksink. Is compressed air the only option?

lilaznviper 10-19-2013 03:08 AM

i use my air compressor + vacuum. gets most of the dust out and then q-tips for the fans

G-SYNC | FAQ | GeForce

Not all games. They don't say how many, but it definitely doesn't work with some games. G-Sync is disabled for them by default

You have such random bits and pieces it would be impossible to sell as a whole. There are some interesting pieces that you could sell pretty quickly but a lot of it you'll probably hang onto as it's not normally things you find people selling privately.

Merp, just fried my very crappy PSU that came with an CM case I bought awhile back. Going to pick one up ASAP, any suggestions? I'll need at least 500w.

trancehead 10-20-2013 07:11 PM

anyone running PLP with eyefinity? (i got 24-30-24 monitors for work primarily, hence the PLP lol)

Im a little bias towards Corsair..
I think Modular are the way to go nowadays..

CX Series CX600M Modular 80+ Bronze - $89.99

depends on what your rig is meant to do and your budget

Verdasco 10-21-2013 12:47 PM

Went big and got an HX750, barely fit into my Fractal Define R3 and had to switch my 140mm bottom intake to a 120mm :okay:

Modular ftw

SkinnyPupp 10-22-2013 02:24 AM

Just finished testing the Noctua NH-U14S and holy crap it's better than I expected!

Single tower cooler performs better than any dual tower I have while in silent mode :ahwow:

That's with a really hot CPU too! Tomorrow I'll see if it can take my 4770K past 4.7 GHz (doubtful but we'll see)

Good choice. Do you notice any coil whine or fan vibrations?

How would you compare it to the higher-end liquid cooling AIOs? H100, H220, Eisberg, etc. From the looks of it I'm guessing they're pretty damn close...

twitchyzero 10-22-2013 10:28 PM

speaking of the H220
swiftech teamed up with Cooler Master to counter the Asetek patent trolling that had the Swiftech AIOs banned from US
http://www.sweclockers.com/image/red...ull&k=5d7ac662
basically a H220 with CM fans, +500rpm pump speed and sata power connection
