Can anyone tell me why my MSI 660TI PE is running at stock clocks? It's supposed to be clocked at 1020MHz core and 1098MHz boost.

It's not a big deal since I can just overclock it myself, but I've been wondering since I got it a few months back.

Is there a chance that the wrong BIOS was installed?

EDIT: Also, my i7-4770K came today to replace the G3220 I was using meanwhile. All my operations in Photoshop are god-speed now even compared to the i5 in my Surface Pro.

On a sidenote, I also looked into the Samsung RAM that I bought off someone. He told me they're rare and sought after on the internet, but I never bothered checking until now. Turns out it can hit 2133MHz easily and up to 2400MHz.. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ead.php?277635

I have a AIO Asus computer with a I3 CPU that's running real slow. My plan is to buy a Crucial m500 120 GB drive and an external case and clone the 80GB OS partition and then swap drives. Anyone see any problems with that plan?

Have you thought to just start fresh with the SSD instead of cloning? If that's not an option, then you'll see a noticeable bump by moving to SSD by itself.

I should add- start fresh then create a clone of a fresh install. Reformats take minutes instead of an hour or two. That's what I do with every fresh build.

I don't want to reformat if I don't have to because of the software and drivers loaded on it.

^ I think there's a folder you can copy to snag all your drivers, it'll be big but that's what I had to do to locate a mystery driver on a work PC a few months ago. Software just make a list of what you want and source it beforehand.

need help with my build:

A10-5800k
MSI FM2-a85xma-e35
gskill ripjawsx 2x4gb 2133 running in dual channel
antec neo eco 400c psu
win7 ultimate 64bit

no matter what i do I can't get the gpu on that apu to run properly. installed multiple versions of drivers, even rma'ed the chip and got a new one and still poor graphics performance.

WEI score of only 4.8 in aero, gaming is 6.7 (others get 6.6+ for both aero and gaming)
dragging windows around feels like there's no graphics driver installed, and logging on/off windows show harsh banding when the splash screen dims. Poor opengl performance in photoshop.

anyone have this chip and have it running properly?

going insane trying to fix this over the past week.

going to RMA my mobo next because it's making a current buzzing frequency around the cpu when cool'n quiet and C6 is turned on. going to see if that fixes the shit apu performance too.

also I'm running my lcd via VGA port atm but I don't think that would cause poor WEI scores, no?

Use Driver Sweeper to clean out your AMD display drivers, and then reinstall the APU display drivers.

Ah gotcha. I just realized that it's an AIO.

So what I would do in your case would be to catalog all the downloaded programs you use and download the latest versions to put in a separate folder. Back that guy up (along with your personal stuff) and get that backup off the drive (USB, external hard drive etc).

Then revert to factory settings (which is a pseudo-reformat), optimize whatever you need to optimize. Install any Windows updates. Don't install any programs. When you have an updated factory settings, clone that. Once you get that clone backed up off the main drive (again, it's up to you where as long as it's off the drive), you can go ahead and apply the clone to your new drive.

That way if anything goes wrong, you know you're just dealing with factory settings + Windows updates and not anything you put on the drive yourself. Makes troubleshooting a million times easier.

came across an interesting read on retailer RMAs...which apparently is the main warranty process in the EU

I've owned various Gigabyte boards since the P4 days and they are seriously rock solid

Not surprised one bit by Sapphire video cards having a high failure rate (well after just picking up my RMA replacement a few days ago)

That being said, this list has pretty much zero credibility so whatevs

not hardcore enough for custom water cooling yet, but I watercooled my R290 using this Pulse bracket with a zalman CPU cooler, wasn't easy but wasn't too hard either, at times I felt like I needed an extra hand, but got it done... and it brought my temperatures down considerably!!
havent tested yet under full load, but judging by idle it looks awesome, idling at 27c right now before it used to idle between 50c and 60c.... dat stock heatsink is useless for something so heavy

yea only thing i wasnt sure about is what kind of cooler to get, was gonna go overkill with a dual fan but no room really, anyway turns out this $70 single zalman works well enough..... bout to go stress test this thing, im curious to see how cool everything stays under full load....

btw I would probably need to upgrade my power supply to something over 1000watt when I add a second 290, correct ?

2 of them will probably reach 650-700W or so. Potentially your PSU could handle it, but you might want to upgrade just in case.

Unless you're mining or on a 4K display though, there's not much reason to.

hey guys, planning to buy a new PC for around $1000 but not for gaming.

what type of parts/brand is good for cheap / value type of customers?? I plan to just run simple applications on it with dual monitors. I have an old i3 computer with a 5850 ATI that doesn't turn on anymore. Where can i donate the olds parts too ?? (PSU and video card prob still work and hard drive)

found out my northbridge frequency is inconsistent and bouncing down to 1400mhz from 1800mhz when igpu kicks in on my a10 5800k. could this be causing my shitty graphics? anyone know if this would be the cpu or motherboards problem?

i don't see a reason to go cheap when you have $1000 budget. you could even just take the old psu and video cards to the new build.

I just build a system for use at my shop for around 800 CAD and its probably already way overkill for your use.

AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta Driver for Windows

Go grab the 14.1 drivers if you have an AMD GPU and play BF4. Otherwise don't bother yet
