If you know how, maybe you should try that if you have some time...

I am a complete noob lol maybe later when I build up some courage I will try and attempt that..

had to dl the beta panda online scan cause of my browser being to new or something and a error occured when it was gathering info on what to do from cloud lol. I have spybot s&d and nothing was found aside from 4 cookies..

forgot to say once in a while i would get a msg saying my "graphics card unexpectedly crashed but has recovered"

edit: updated gpu driver will test out to see if lag or not

edit2: think its safe to say its fixed after the update! Thanks for all the help guys!

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Review - Maxwell Architecture debuts at $150 | PC Perspective

if they only allowed SLI...that would be insane amount of performance per watt once drivers mature and custom BIOS are out

can't wait for the enthusiast range cards on 20nm Maxwell

Brother has an old AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ CPU with 4GB DDR1.

Thinking of upgrading his video card from a 9600GT to a R7 250.

Would the CPU bottleneck the video card severely? It's ranked 915 on PassMark CPU List compared to my i5-4200U on my laptop that's 452.

Anyone here currently use a 120hz/144hz monitor for gaming?

Is it worth the price tag?

Should I wait for G-sync monitor instead?

ForbiddenX 03-02-2014 02:41 PM

I've used the 144hz. Would say its worth it especially for FPS. Pm me if you're interested in one. I have one for sale .

R7 250 is a pretty low end card, I don't think it would be a bottleneck.

I ended up upgrading him to a i3-3240. Should be much better.

What's your guys' recommendation for a good video card in the ~$250 range?

I'm upgrading from a 5770, which is pretty abysmal
I don't play many games aside from CS:GO and dayZ

I was looking at this, but am completely open to suggestions since I'm not too upto date with hardware:

You should be able to get a GeForce 760 for that price

If not, IIRC the AMD competition is the R9 270X

thanks!

I'm just going to get the R9 270X and the hyper 212 evo and push my OC to 4 ghz :fullofwin:

any reason to not get the HIS variant? It's about $25 cheaper than the other instock models:
HIS Radeon R9 270X IceQ X2 2GB PCI-E w/ DVI, HDMI, Dual DP at Memory Express

Razor Ramon HG 03-02-2014 08:09 PM

PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmark Charts - Video Card Model List

You can use this chart as a reference.

Newegg.ca - HIS iPower IceQ X² Turbo H270QMT2G2M Radeon R9 270 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Reviews look good, so the card seems like a good purchase.

HIS might be lower since it's not as reputable.. All vendors use the same GPU core, and it's just a matter of board and cooler design, packaging, support, etc. Not really a concern, but if small stuff like that bothers you, might be better to go with a more reputable brand like ASUS or Gigabyte.

SkinnyPupp 03-02-2014 08:27 PM

They use the same GPU, but the VRM can be quite different. A cheap VRM will have coil whine, and will probably die before you're ready to upgrade.

Not saying that's what HIS has; I have no idea in that case. If nobody is complaining, I guess it should be fine.

If you can get a 760 in your price range, I'd go for that instead

im using the corsair h80 and pushed my i5 2500k to 4.5gh... I can get to 4.85gh but during heavy BF4 fights.. lol it crashes.. 4.5gh seems to be most stable

Finally had 3 hrs to take apart my rig and cleaned it up and reapplied thermal paste... I need to upgrade to a modular psu and a wider case for better cable management.. lol

FerrariEnzo 03-03-2014 07:06 PM

If the CMOS battery is starting to die, does it cause the system to shutdown after a few secs of powering on?

Razor Ramon HG 03-03-2014 08:26 PM

If the CMOS battery is starting to die, you will get BIOS error messages on bootup and eventually your time will fall behind and/or be wrong. If the CMOS battery is dead, it still won't prevent your computer from shutting down.

It's probably something related to your PSU.

underscore 03-04-2014 01:18 PM

Sounds like a dying PSU, if you reboot it right away does it die even sooner than before?

FerrariEnzo 03-04-2014 03:21 PM

its strange.. After hitting the power button, it just shuts down and goes on in a cycle.. tried many times by turning the psu unit off and on, power on.. same thing..

finally after 15mins of trying, I just removed the cmos battery and let the bios reset... and it works on first try... go into bios and load my settings.. now its working fine..

its every once in a while it does this... so Im not sure...

Random restarts, boot up problems, when you're booting/restarting it'll feel like a car stalling... Things of this sort.

G 03-05-2014 12:49 PM

Any symptoms for a faulty graphics card?

My desktop seems to freeze and if you leave it long enough, it will eventually shut itself down. It usually happens when I alt tab between some high FPS games...

lilaznviper 03-05-2014 01:32 PM

^try updating graphics driver

fs604 03-11-2014 09:20 AM

anybody know if the arc midi r2 cpu cut-out is big enough to install the hyper 212 evo backplate? ie. not having to disassemble mobo from case in order to install the cooler.

twitchyzero 03-17-2014 06:38 PM

not a bad deal at all if you're looking at large capacity SSD (<$0.50/GB)
250GB is $140
