Would 60 gb be enough?
or should I just go big and get 120 so I will have nothing to worry about later on.!!

Definitely 120GB. 60gb is just enough for my os and apps alone.

exdee 12-15-2011 11:31 PM

okay yeah... i'm really curious about this but why is it that buying a 2 kit of ram cost more than buying 2 single ones of the same kind? :fulloffuck:

They're tested and guaranteed to work in pairs. That's about it.

SkinnyPupp 12-16-2011 12:59 AM

Also 60 gb is nowhere near as fast. SSDs need a lot of parallel threads to run at full speed. That's why 2 drives using the same controller but different flash can be so different. For the MOST part, larger drives = faster

Sometimes you can get 2 'identical' 120GB drives, with the same controller and same type of flash chip. But one may have flash that only has 1 or 2 die per flash chip, while the other has 4. This was the case with A-Data S511 in my review.

This was also the case in my review of the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS. The 120GB version I tested has the hot 4 die flash, but with only 8 chips, it wasn't that much faster than the other drives that use 2 die flash, but with 16 chips.

Thinking about getting a new graphics card, but idk if I should wait for the 7 series..

twitchyzero 12-16-2011 02:28 PM

bam!
AMD Southern Island key slides are leaked
it looks like the rumours of it being as fast as 6990 is true after all :joy:
apparently it will be running <300W during load thanks to the new 28nm architecture

it will be officially revealed next Thursday and will ship Janurary 9th when CES 2012 starts.

I will need a new PSU as mine only has 2x 6 pci-e pins :okay:
let's just hope it's under $400!

Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 ATX LGA1155 Z68 DDR3 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 2PCI HDMI SLI SATA3 USB3.0 Motherboard - Gigabyte - GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3

Thoughts? I know a lot of you guys run the UD4 but I'd like an unbiased opinion on this one. Runs in my price range. Is it really worth it to get the 4 over this? I don't plan on doing any OC'ing.

SkinnyPupp 12-17-2011 04:10 AM

It's very similar to the GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 but slightly better. I say go for it.

Totally fine. I run this with a 2500k and OC'd to 4.5ghz stable at 1.33v.

Since I'm going to move my system into my new case soon, I was wondering if you guys think its worth it for me to spring for a new modular PSU. Currently I am using a PCP&C Silencer 750. It's from 2009(2008?) and it has served me faithfully. Recently noticed more BSOD happening randomly and I'm worried that it is a sign of the PSU failing. Also, wondering about next generation GPU power requirements - will the 28nm process mean that they use less power or not necessarily? What power level do I need to budget for? I'm thinking something around 950-1000 watts.

i'm also in the market for a new PSU for the 28nm based cards

i am aiming for the 850w range...i'd think 1000w is overkill especiallly since the new cards are gonna be more power efficient...by how much? we'll find out on thursday.

1000w+ is only necessary if you go triple/quad SLI/CF or SLI/CF for dual GPU cards IMO

Yeah, how efficient the new cards are is going to play a major role in my PSU selection. I also want modular for better cable management... Non-modular is a total pain in the ass.

I really like the look of the Corsair HX/TX-M series, or the XFX Pro line.

OCZ PSU = no-no? There's a really good deal on at NCIX for an older Z-series 1000-watt unit. $139 after rebate.

twitchyzero 12-20-2011 07:13 PM

i only looked at the TX-M and XFX Pro...can't afford seasonic lol
i haven't looked at anitec nor nznt ones
usually semi-modular is good enough for me

i am not familiar with OCZ PSU but $140 doesn't seem that great of a deal for an old model? especially since OCZ is notorious for not honouring MIR's. I am sure OCZ PSU are safe to go with though...since they are so popular on the market.

edit:also haven't looked into the diff btwn TX-M and TX version 2 in terms of efficiency/reliability

noTirl 12-20-2011 11:22 PM

i actually got the ocz-z 1000w psu for 119 after mir and i received my rebate 5? weeks after i sent in the letter :alonehappy:

roastpuff 12-21-2011 12:32 AM

How is the PSU? Good build quality? Noisy or quiet? Reliable?
Posted via RS Mobile

SkinnyPupp 12-21-2011 01:12 AM

anything over 500w is overkill for single card systems

SLI here. So I need a fairly beefy one.

Good to hear that it's a decent PSU.
