anyone know where to buy a female sata connector locally that i can use to replace the connector on my ssd? a year+ ago i broke the connector off my brand new kingston hyperX SSD and i managed to super glue the broken pieces off to make it work up until recently. i pulled the HDD out and it stopped reading so i suspect the connector may be at fault. I just want to make the drive readable to retrieve some data.

Recon604 05-15-2014 04:36 PM

uh oh... how did you manage to do that. It wont be easy... you have to take the ssd apart which will void the warranty and change the header.

buy the part here http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...555-ND/1207097

SkinnyPupp 05-15-2014 05:00 PM

Maybe buy a dead laptop HDD off someone?

warranty is voided for sure already since its self inflicted damage, i already ordered some headers off ebay but wont be here until mid june... so was wondering if theres anywhere locally that i can purchase

turns out, if u google ssd sata connector, the results seems to point towards kingston ssd most, so im guessing kingston used a cheaper quality header for their ssds vs other brands. i managed to break it when doing cable management, the power cable was tight so when i tried to pull it off it came out at an angle which snapped the plastic backing

as for pulling one off an old hdd, thats doable i guess, havnt really thought of it

TOPEC 05-17-2014 12:33 AM

so i took apart the kingston hyperX SSD thinking of replacing the connector/hearder but something else caught my eyes.

http://i.imgur.com/9utiNcZ.jpg

it seems like those 2 square things r burnt/fried

i think its those 2 components causing the drive not working, not the connector/headers

google seems to point them to "power inductors", anyone know anything or know anywhere to get some replacements locally? or know of a way to test them with a multimeter?

SkinnyPupp 05-17-2014 12:45 AM

You probably fried them when the connector broke

thing is, the connector broke a year ago n was super glued back together, the ssd worked all along, i suspect it might've been the external dock that fried it when i pulled it off the dock

SkinnyPupp 05-17-2014 01:00 AM

Even with a glued-on connector, it probably wasn't lining up properly and the connectors just got crossed. Sucks :(

A coworker is offering me his XFX 7950 in pretty much brand-new condition for $250 plus my 7850 1GB.

I could either give him $250 plus my card for his 7950, or keep my card and upgrade my Phenom 965BE OC'd to 4.0GHz to an FX-8350 and crossfire with another 7850.

In terms of increasing raw fps in games, which one would be the more cost-effective upgrade?

7950 = R9 280. It should be $250 brand new... They just lowered the price last week, so canadian retailers may not be caught up yet, but they will be.

Even without the price drop, it was $280 so you were still getting ripped off having to give up a video card on top of paying $250

Razor Ramon HG 05-19-2014 08:36 AM

I paid $250 for a used 7950 during the LTC craze.. shouldn't be worth that much now.

CRS 05-19-2014 08:48 AM

Or you could buy my Gigabyte 7870 for $180.

HAHAH Same thing my MB broke last month (Video card, RAM, HDD still work) debating should I just use my laptop or get a new PC again. I don't play games much (expect D3 and Heartstone mostly and maybe Dragon Age when it comes out) other than that I do mostly just web surfing and watching video.....

roastpuff 05-23-2014 11:53 AM

Hey guys, Intel summer deal is out... just wait for the flood of i7-4770k CPU's to hit the market. ;)

DC5-S 05-26-2014 09:16 PM

Scored two 7950's for $260 off Craigslist, damn good deal. Both still have warranty. My computer totally demolishes battlefield 4 now lol

Mr.HappySilp 05-26-2014 09:48 PM

Any suggestions on building a new PC? Looking to build a PC budget is around $500 to $650. Mostly for watching movies and sometimes light gaming in medium settings (mostly play D3, PoE and Dragon Age when it comes out). Only is I want one of those Mini Tower case. Any suggestions?

So my computers power button started acting up a couple of days ago. Finally today it stopped powering on completely. Used the jumper method on the motherboard to jump the computer. It works perfectly fine.

As a temporary fix I'm using the reset button as the power button(swapped connectors on the mobo)
Anyone know how I can fix this? I traced the cabling from the power button to the mobo and there aren't any issues, so I believe its just a broken power button.

Any DIYs on swapping out a power button.

I already have a case, SSD, 1TB HDD, EVGA GTX 660 so I am pretty much all. I could have save a bit more by using my old PSU and RAM but honestly the PSU is not Modular and is a pain to connect and do cable management and the RAM is pretty outdated (4x2GB RAM). Hopefully this build will last me a while.

Updated bios, (you guys with Asus boards really should do this update, the new bios has a new much nicer and more streamlined layout, very modern) and had to upgrade my power supply to 1000watt before I added another 290, and scored really nicely on 3Dmark, almost 17k....
But I'm having issues with this Afterburner software, worked fine with only one card, now with two it's glitchy as fck, having some issues and for some reason now I can't up the voltage, it's greyed out, when there was only one card in there I had that option. Any suggestions ? maybe different OC software ??
once I'm able to OC cards properly I think I can do 18k, but what I really want is to break 10k on the extreme test
