"Best time" is any sales time! Black Friday!Boxing day!
Not sure if it is much cheaper in Asia, but you have to think about warranty issues.

It really depends on you.
What your budget? What games do you plan to play? Do you need to play in 1440p or are you sticking with 1080 resolution?

Choose a budget and work from there!

Using window 8.1. Personally I feel Windows 8.1 is a bit faster than Windows 7 (could be with the newer hardware). It doesn't bug in all the much since it boots into desktop mode and I always install an app that brings back the start menu. It also seems cheaper to purchase Win8 than Win7.

In terms of buying parts, I just buy each part when it is on sale and try to price match. I think local would be better because of warrantly issue.

i wouldnt buy stuff in asia...it really doesn't get better than local/US prices
no point buying last year's model even if the newly released hardware is last year's refresh unless there's clearance pricing at a deep discount

Not really upgrading but cleaning.

Noticed the qosmio x500 heats up in cpu intensive
Gaming.

Took it apart and wow , frickin dust city ! Gonna dust it out
with compressed air but don't think I can trust myself to reapply
thermal paste on the cpu.

Whats a good 4K monitor?
seems like NCIX only has 2? an asus and a samsung any others? which of the two would be the better choice?

im just looking to upgrade the monitor mines fine but id like something new either 3D or 4K and figure may as well go for 4K or if possible 4K 3D

edit: nevermind did some research, affordable ones seem to suck PQ wise compared with my 1080p one right now... and a good one is way too expensive for the size... may as well just use my tv

quick question, right now i have 2x 4gb ram in slots 1 and 3. the 2 sticks are of same spec/brand so i am utilizing dual channel.

if i want to utilize slots 2 and 4 with another 2x 4gb ram, do they have to be the same spec/brand as the ones i'm using in slot 1 and 2? or only the ones going into slot 2 and 4 have to be the same spec/brand (for another dual channel)?

hopefully that makes sense.

What motherboard?

I know the ASUS ROG boards are pretty good with handling mismatched ram, but other motherboards can be pretty picky. If you're overclocking that could cause problems too

Hey guys,
I was wondering how mail-in-rebates work? is it a bad idea to submit the mail in rebates before i finish building my pc? one of the mail-in-rebates say i need to submit the "serial number label cut from the retail box" is that normal and should is that a concern for warranty or refund issues? Thanks.

seiki 39" 4K for $300 USD or 50" for $500 USD...30Hz doe

i might be in the market for a new tv soon and might just get that for FHD/120Hz...that way i can still run UHD/24p?

By the time 4K is worth buying for a reasonable price, the true next gen format will be out (8K)

usually you want the same spec and brand but if you can't atleast try to get the same spec as your first set.

I was interested in 4K gaming but I didnt think a suitable desktop 4k monitor would cost almost the same as a 4k tv that's twice its size :/

the 700$ 4k screens i read are TN panels with crappy PQ :/

Im using the Samsung U28D590 right now. IMO, the PQ is OK. It's obviously no IPS panel, but it's not terrible.
I use it mostly for gaming and it does the job fine. Though I am only running 2560x1440 on most games. My GTX680 SLI doesn't have quite enough power to output 4K. Im waiting to grab a couple of GTX 880's later this year :P
However, once you see actual 4K content on a 4K screen, it's just mind-blowing. It makes 1080P look like SD lol

Figure out what kind of stuff he wants to play, if it turns out he doesn't need anything heavy duty it might be better to save the cash for future upgrades.

i hope the following part makes sense. i am not sure how dual channel works.

lets say the second set specs are different than the first set. but the second set (2 sticks) have the same spec. will the 2 sets still run in dual channel?

if all 4 sticks are the same spec and brand, does that run faster than 2 different sets?
