Hi guys, Building my pc at the moment and ran into an issue. installed the CPU, Installed the ram, installed the video card and did a test boot with motherboard and powersupply out of the case but pc won't turn on. Motherboard lights up, i hear a clicking sound and fans start spinning for 2 seconds but no response on the tv and fans turns on and off repeatedly. Any suggestions?

Make sure your motherboard isn't touching the case.

Hi again guys,

I am having hdd and ssd problems. everytime i boot up with the ssd or hdd connected, the pc does is unable to go into bios and message continuously pops up, "reboot and select proper boot device".

if the hdd or ssd is not connected the pc will boot straight into bios but configure boot setup due to undetected boot devices.

I am unsure if I connected the sata cables correctly for my ssd and hdd or if i have a faulty mobo/hdd/ssd. Can someone help give me a quick tutorial on how to connect these sata cables properly? Thanks.

Razor Ramon HG 07-17-2014 10:32 PM

SATA cables are pretty straight forward. Just plug one end to the motherboard and the other to the drive.

Some motherboards have certain ports that run on a different controller, which in your case could cause troubles if this is your first time booting it up. Try different ports and see.

tried all 6 ports for both hdd and ssd with 2 different sata cables.. no luck. Starting to think mobo (z87x-ud3h) might have a problem with detecting drives. WOuld NCIX take my PC in to finish the build?

Razor Ramon HG 07-17-2014 11:42 PM

Dumb question, but your hard drives are also connected to the PSU right?

Traum 07-17-2014 11:45 PM

^^ Do you have a second PC around that you can check your drives with?

The SSD is your OS / boot drive, right? Have you tried plugging only that drive in, and see if the PC boots up? If it does, it is more likely that the HDD is your problem.

I suspect the HDD might be configured to be a system drive as well, and that might be the cause of your problem.

Thanks guys I got it to work. SPammed the del key to get into bios before the black screen pops up and enabled/disabled a bunch of stuff in bios and now its good. Appreciate the help.

Does anyone know if a PC can handle 2 Logitech G27's at once?

6 years old monitor is dead.. Can someone recommend me a new monitor 23~ inch, budget is $200 and under.

Thanks

Looking at upgrading my current 7 year old setup.

I briefly played around parts picker and these are the potential parts I am considering. My main purpose is graphics editing and some occasional gaming. I'm trying to keep the setup under $1000 tax in, but not sure which areas I should cut back on.

Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Asus Maximus VI Gene Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Asus GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card

you wont need a new PSU?
If primarily gaming and minimal editing etc I would try and find a cheaper mobo/maybe buy i5 and use the extra cash to pony up the GPU...660 is pretty average for a $1K build

More on the graphics editing than gaming. What's a good gpu without costing me my entire budget lol.

i'd find a more affordable mobo and pony up $50 to go R9 280 or GTX 760

Why not get a GTX 770?

http://www.ncix.com/detail/msi-gefor...84358-1286.htm

This is what I got, couldn't be happier.

twitchyzero 07-23-2014 02:16 PM

it's an extra $100...i'd assume he wanted to keep within his budget and keep the i7 for editing

TBH if im gaming at 1080p with games that aren't super taxing i'll just get the 750Ti

Right now isn't the best time to buy higher end video cards unless you absolutely need it...nvidia is due for their Maxwell line-up

Euro7r 07-23-2014 05:08 PM

My biggest priority is editing since I know programs these days eat up so much resources. It would be nice to play some games on max specs but not a big issue if I can't.

Would it be better to get i5 4670 or i7? Is the difference significant?

twitchyzero 07-23-2014 08:48 PM

better multi-threaded performance w/ the i7 is beneficial for editing
what kind of video card is in your current rig? i actually suggest carrying that over for a few months and wait for the new cards if you're not gaming much these days (or just go for the cheap 750 ti). I'm also thinking 16GB ram is better in your case.

My current setup is 7 years old. Using a 8800 GTS.

I'm slowly going to wait it out for prices to drop since I plan to collect the parts slowly in the next few months, not a big rush. Just that, I want to do my research and get a feel on what's out there that should be aware of as I haven't built a setup for 7 years lol.

This is probably the wrong thread, but I'm looking to get an external hard drive and webcam, and am looking for recommendations. For Hard drive i was looking at this

http://www.ncix.com/detail/wd-my-pas...89553-1031.htm

and for webcam i was looking for 1080p

but this 720p might be a steal

thanks

AMD Athlon X4 630 (OC to 3.5GHz)
4GB DDR3 RAM
640gb HD 7200rpm
ATI Radeon 7790

I want faster speed (particularly at multi-tasking and running multiple programs at once). I do some light gaming also. I'm stuck between upgrading my ram to 8gb ($90) or buy a new crucial 256gb SSD ($129). PC is about 4 years old, I don't want to buy a new PC if I don't have to. What would be the best bang for the buck at this point (price per performance wise)?
