Already have a couple. One I plan to use for the OS etc. Other I will put frequently played games on it.

I will check them out too. For whatever reason 4K didn't even enter my radar when thinking about screens.

Thanks a bunch

You might want to bite on this. Great deal for a top of the line Seasonic albeit used. Seller has almost perfect feedback.

NP. The idea of getting a 4k monitor is that monitor tends to last several years more than your current machine. So unless there's something substantially better by the time you do the next upgrade, you'd likely to continue with the same monitor.

And yes, there IS a noticeable difference between 2560 vs. 3840 at the distance one normally sit when using desktop.

looking for a dual dvi for 120hz monitor cable. and a HDMI > DVI connecter. PM me :)

Razor Ramon HG 11-02-2014 03:11 PM

Damn.. with this cable, you could put your PC in say the basement and have just your monitor, keyboard, and mouse somewhere else.

Silent PC operation at its finest.

Too bad it's $300 :lol

BrRsn 11-02-2014 08:03 PM

Next house we make I want a closet with an AC-duct and HDMI/USB/audio cables going from closet to where I'd wall-mount the screen -- hide PC in closet, wall-mount a nice big screen, wireless keyboard/mouse = super clean set up :sweetjesus:

Funny thing is, it'd cost all of $20-$50 if you were making a new house -- just need the foresight. So jealous of my friends that were smart enough to run Cat5 to/from all the TV locations in their house -- who needs WiFi?

twitchyzero 11-02-2014 08:33 PM

huh you can lay down cables to existing houses? I don't get this long USB cord...if you want near silent operation there's plenty of slim barebones you can get that can tuck away behind the monitor. If you wanna do serious gaming then use steam in-home streaming (assuming you're gonna invest in putting down wires)

3klipze 11-02-2014 09:08 PM

MSI GTX 670

Should i bite? I've always had bad luck with used electronics off craigslist, especially computer parts. If he has receipt and warranty is still valid, i might do it.

smoothie. 11-02-2014 10:08 PM

youd basically need to have a pc sans video card there to plug in and run burn in tests and benchmark with, without him robbing you, for that to be a guaranteed good deal?

or just take a gamble.

The point made in Linus' video is that you could pretty much access your PC in its entirety from the other side of the house with zero lag and zero noise.

For those that truly need a silent PC (the noise mine makes from my H100i pump drives me nuts sometimes) this is a great solution although at a costly price.

I submitted this to battle stations but everyone keeps telling me to post it here also. FINE! : pcmasterrace

The way he did it is more complicated than what I see in Linus' video, but still looks badass as fuck.

You can find people selling R9 280x for like 120-140.. I'd rather do that than buy a two generation old card that's gimped.

Tegra_Devil 11-03-2014 07:48 AM

Hey guys, sorry noob question.

just blew off the dust of my MSI GT780DXR havent really touched it in a year. Just have a few questions....

i just upgraded my wireless router to a 5Ghz router(since the 2.4GHz is clogged around my complex)...i realized the wifi card in this my computer only supports 2,4GHz....any recommendations on a replacement that will get me in a better speed level.

i have a Intel130N stock wireless card it is a 2 antenna 150Mbps single band 2.4ghz wireless card with Bluetooth 3.0

Also, any good "plug and play" budget upgrades for this thing?

Traum 11-03-2014 08:51 AM

Chances are, your "5 GHz" router would still support the 2.4GHz channels. You just have to make sure that in the router config, it is broadcasting in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (you'll most likely be setting up 2 WiFi networks with different SSID's), and you are good to go.

Also, assuming that your network setup is still using wireless N networking (as your Intel network card seems to suggest), I don't think there is any speed difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. It's just that there is far fewer interference at the 5 GHz band (most notably, your microwave oven doesn't use 5 GHz).

Oh ya. Sorry. Guess I could have clarified. I do have 2.4ghz working off my router. But that frequency is soooooo bogged in my complex and every channel is tons of stuff/people on it. But 5ghz barely has anything on it as people around here don't have routers that use 5ghz.

So I want to get a wifi card to that's supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. So I can run on the least bogged frequency on my laptop. It is a super easy swap. I just wanna know which card would be the best for my laptop.

I have 2 networks set up currently. 5g and regular. My iPhone 6 is on 5g and it is blazing fast, where as my laptop is on the regular 2.4ghz band and is slow as fuck.

StylinRed 11-03-2014 11:37 AM

quick question

will this http://www.ncix.com/detail/intel-xeo...b-ba-94147.htm work with this? http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-maxi...84531-1457.htm
(xeon chip and matx asus board)

underscore 11-03-2014 12:09 PM

Both are Socket H3 LGA-1150 so it'll physically fit but the mobo compatibility for that CPU seems to be very specific and the mobo doesn't list Xeon support.

Why do you want a server CPU?

StylinRed 11-03-2014 12:12 PM

Hey thanks

I just looked on the asus support site and it supports it

I only opted for that chip because its cheaper than the I7 i was going to get and supposedly just as fast just without the onboard video (which i dont need)

Tegra_Devil 11-03-2014 12:33 PM

just picked up a Intel Advanced N-6235...should work perfectly

Razor Ramon HG 11-03-2014 10:20 PM

Anyone looking for a higher end air cooler that doesn't look like shit (Noctua).. I picked up a be quiet! Dark Rock 3 earlier today for $69.99

http://www.ncix.com/detail/be-quiet-...93614-1360.htm

Much quieter than my H100i (water cooler pumps are so noisy) and temperatures are about 4-5 degrees better at idle and load.

Do miss the awesome look of the H100i water block though.

knight604 11-03-2014 10:24 PM

my friend just bought an area51 2014...

im like what the fuck are you doing man...

It's a good card.

:concentrate:

I swapped out the shitty Realtek in my Clevo with that and speeds were much better.

twitchyzero 11-03-2014 10:43 PM

as I was skimming through this I was thinking this guy and his wife must have extremely sensitive ears

I get to the last pic

If all those PCs/servers are tucked away in the basement he could probably fold and mine them too...then somehow recirculate that air as central heating, win-win :suspicious:
I kinda wanna copy him to get a 21:9 screen as an accessory display :concentrate:

bobola 11-04-2014 11:11 AM

Just got my new video card today. . .
Installed it and then some how I messed up the mobo and it wont boot up.

I cleared CMOS and it went back to factory setting.
And now everything is boots fine.

I updated the BIOs back the latest version.
But would I need to update all the driver (chipset, etc) again?

3klipze 11-04-2014 05:27 PM

@bobola, its not necessary to update the driver, but make sure you're on a stable version of your graphics driver or latest one, whichever one you prefer. I would say you didn't uninstall the old one before sticking the new one in?

^^ wow that setup looks insane. My battlestation and servers looks like a mess with wires everywhere.

We've got 3 PC's running in the basement and they actually keep it warmer than the rest of the house. I'm really tempted to punch some holes in the wall and put them in the storage room though (only a few feet from where they are now) because I hate the background noise of 3 PC's all the damn time.

Preemo 11-07-2014 10:25 AM

Built a new rig and currently I am running into this issue (picture attached) with any and all games. Video and regular day to day stuff is fine. Only happens with games. Any ideas?

EDIT: I took the first picture with my camera because when I print screen it renders fine in Paint ... sooo ... I'm all out of ideas. LOL
