I love the ASUS that I picked up on sale, I can't remember the model but I posted a thread about routers that you should be able to find.

NCIX has a coupon code until tomorrow.

Use coupon code 'GOLDEN' and take $25 off your order of $150 or more. Applies to both sale items and any shipping promos.

had ncix check it out and they said it was the MB but they don't know why it isn't working

luckily it's still under warranty at ASUS

so I sent it in and they reply back saying they found a scratch on it so it's not warrantied -_-

i don't know what the 2nd arrow is pointing too but anyway geeeeeez -_-

i wasn't using it but still disappointed

ASUS warranty is hit or miss..

If you bought it within 14 days, NCIX should exchange the motherboard for you.

BTW, can't see it.

PC has been acting funny the last couple days, on power up it won't even get to the mobo splash screen and it sits there surging the fan until I shut it off. After a few manual power off/on's it'll start up. Should I be digging into my mobo/PSU or no?

I'd imagine it's the mobo, but the easiest thing to do is to goto ME, grab a PSU from there, and test.

If it's the PSU, keep it. If not, return it.

No ME here, and today it's been booting up just fine. Hopefully if it's gonna be an ongoing thing it fails completely before Boxing Day.

Looks like a surface mounted component is broken off. If you can find out what the component is you could repair it for pennies.

Don't think anything is normally mounted there, a capacitor at best, but it wouldn't have came clean off like that.

It might be the scratch, but it doesn't look deep enough.

ASUS has been known for on-and-off RMA service refusing warranty on basis such as "bent pins" when the motherboard was originally fine or for scratches like that.

But yeah.. if you want a Z87 motherboard to replace yours, holla at me

P.S. Aww yeaaaa

I'd ask them at the very least, if they seem to think something is wrong there they should be able to tell you what is damaged or missing from that spot.

no absolutely nothing goes there not even a capacitor

here's the stock images from asus with the area outlined in red that has the 'scratch'

Spoiler!

-_- oh well

i'm fine for a replacement thanks i brought the replacement to ncix today to have them install it back with my computer

and they want $100 to install it -_- I thought it would be free since they've got to reassemble my computer anyway but nope :/

bleh would do it myself but i know im just going to leave it and never get around to it

edit: well i wrote a complaint to asus about the situation and i also wrote an email to the tech that contacted me but I haven't heard back yet

Your eyes must be better than mine cause I can't tell from that pic, either way there's a chance a component goes there since they wouldn't have put pads there unless at least some of the mobos built on that base use it, and ASUS seem to think there's a flaw in your board in that spot.

Sorry to keep going on about it I just like fixing stuff and hate seeing potentially repairable stuff tossed out. If you're gonna chuck it mind if I take a crack at it? What model is it anyways?

Would buying a home theatre pc be the best way for me to download shows for my parents so they can watch from the tv in the living room? Trying to figure out the easiest way for them to use it with basic computer knowledge.

Yeah, I posted a $300 ~ HTPC build a few pages back.

Apex Mi-008
Gigabyte GA-C1037UN
2GB DDR3
2TB WD Green

Grab the motherboard from Memory Express, and the rest from NCIX. Add $20 to your expected costs if you need a WiFi dongle.

Do you live at home? If there's already a PC you can chuck the files on I'd just use a Raspberry Pi with RaspBMC, they're very cheap and easy to use.

so i asked the asus tech what the problem with the motherboard is to cause it not to work so that i could try to DIY it
and he tells me they didn't look to a cause of the problem their First job is to look for any reason to void the warranty

I...wait....what?

Some places will only void it if the damage you caused was what caused the device to fail.

So I just received a call from someone at Asus' complaints department who offered to give me a replacement motherboard as an "exception"
