you're best bet is Intel
plextor/corsair/kingston/sandisk are pretty good too
Samsung 840 evo and crucial m4 had great performance but after a year + the story changes.

Back in 2011, $800 would've netted you a video card such as the GTX 590. Nowadays, a R9 280X for around $200 matches it without all the extra noise and heat.

i disagree...look at how much video card tech has slowed down recently. The 7970 (slightly lower clocked 280x) from 2011 can still hold its own and will easily last another two years at 1080p with its 3GB frame buffer. If you aren't looking to upgrade your monitor in the foreseeable future you can easily buy at the beginning of a new architecture/die shrink (albeit at a premium, 7970 launched at $550) and have it last 5 years by just dialing back from ultra to high in a handful of games.

If anyone of you guys bought a Gtx970 you are entitled to a refund/exchange/compensation.

Picked up a GTX980 reference ZOTAC for $399, but getting buyer's remorse. I might let it go if the order goes through. PM me if you're interested. Selling at cost.

NVIDIA to Tune GTX 970 Resource Allocation with Driver Update | techPowerUp

eatgamer comments on [Discussion] I benchmarked GTX 970's in SLI at 1440P and above 3.5gb. Here are my impressions. [Also, a warning about buying Strix cards from Newegg!!]

Looks like you will have to contact retailer, if not get in touch with nvidia

!Aznboi128 01-29-2015 11:01 PM

um... still the same pricing as before for the 970

anyone looked into Mushkin brand? huge GB/$ value on their ssd, and they have 500 read/write speeds

TOS'd 01-30-2015 08:39 AM

Havent had any issues with my card yet, and I just returned a 290x for the 970 and the amd one had way more issues for me. i'll just wait for the update rather than returning since id want to stay with nvidia and id either have to go up or down in model. thanks for the info though.

Need some advice for upgrading. I am looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor. Do you think I would be able to play dota 2 at full res with my current set up?

For upgrade route what do you guys think is better:
PSU> Mobo > SLI the current GPU
PSU> GPU 3+gbram to single card the 1440p

ASUS H97-PLUS ATX DDR3 Motherboard
MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC Twin Frozr IV 1085/1150MHZ 2GB GDDR5
Corsair CX Series CX500M 500W ATX 12V 80 Plus Bronze Modular Power Supply

Running on an haswell i7, forgot the xxxxK

lilaznviper 02-06-2015 07:12 PM

Man if i could dual monitor 1440p that would be EPIC

So i went ahead and bought GW2765 and its pretty damn good with my current set up.

Just tried a bot game in Dota and seem to be getting 60+ FPS so pretty happy with that.

I just finished building my computer and was able to get it to post and get to BIOS screen. At the time I did not buy windows yet so I left it the way it was. Fast forward to this morning, I try to start it up, everything powers on, led fans etc but no display on the screen. Tried both VGA and HDMI and still no display. Any idea what could be loose?

jing 02-06-2015 09:49 PM

^ Probably your video card? Try using the integrated gpu if you have one

TOS'd 02-06-2015 09:57 PM

Similar thing happened to me, ended up unplugging gfx card, loading windows on integrated, downloading gfx card drivers and installing card.

Razor Ramon HG 02-08-2015 11:07 AM

Been using a Mionix SK. It feels great.

3klipze 02-09-2015 07:52 PM

^^ Don't really get the hype over the zowie mouses. Care to explain your choice?

Canadian Rider 02-09-2015 09:48 PM

Got a new comp ... did a full install with old win7 pro upgrade key. I'm not sure if the "upgrade key" provides a proper full install or not. Just out of curiosity.. Does windows 8 ever go on sale?

twitchyzero 02-09-2015 11:08 PM

worth mentioning that windows 10 is free for win 7/8 users

it's "free" for the first year only tho isnt it?

Razor Ramon HG 02-10-2015 12:38 AM

Free if you register in the first year. Windows 10 is not subscription based.

underscore 02-10-2015 08:26 AM

When is 10 being released? I hope it's nothing like 8.

Canadian Rider 02-10-2015 09:17 AM

It will be free. But it won't be out until the end of the year... I'm not sure how I feel about running a buggy preview until then.
