Did PSUs become more expensive over the past couple of years? My XFX 1250W just crapped on me so im on the hunt for a new PSU. I bought the XFX at regular price for $250 back in 2012. Now nearly all 1250W+ PSUs are $300+.

Im currently looking at this: Seasonic X-1250 Gold ATX 12V 24PIN 1250W Active PFC 80PLUS Modular DC to DC San Ace - SS-1250XM
Anyone recommend something else? Preferably 1000W and up. I will be running 4-way sli/crossfire later this year.

i have the x750 KM3...seasonic is supposedly unrivaled in reliability so i am expecting it to outlast many builds
most PSU i have seen actually are more affordable...but i mean the mainstream stuff like 850W or less....if you're running 4 GPUs then you gotta pay to play

^ I have the 2012 ultimate, and fuck its gotten so annoying this click click sound over and over.

I recently upgraded to the deatheradder chroma cause my rabbit chewed up my 2012 deathadder cable. I would have to say the deathadder chroma is a lot lighter, the scroll is more responsive, the grip is amazing, and the left and right click feel better.

Planning on building a new system for basic needs: Microsoft Office, email, movies, etc. No gaming will be done.

Does anyone have any CPU/Mobo recommendations?

Thanks

Intel G3258 + ASUS H81M-E + 4GB DDR3 + HDD + CM Elite 350

Should be around $340-350 after taxes and pricematches. Fully upgradable for the future.

CPU is overclockable on that MB. Can easily hit 4.2GHz with stock cooler.

^ Thanks! I was just looking at the Intel G3258 Anniversary edition. Performance straight out of the box seems decent already, and the huge potential for overclocking is a plus. Definitely going to go this route.

Does anybody have an extra Corsair modular PCI-E cable? I have an HX750 in a tower I bought used and didn't get any extra cables from the seller. Now I have a new GPU that requires two 6pin connections instead of just one.
The cables seem to be cross compatible between the HX / TX / CX modular series.

If you can't find one, a dual molex to 6-pin will work fine (at the cost of some extra cables and ugliness)

I would advise against using a single molex adapter for safety reasons. Get an adapter with dual molex plugs. They provide roughly the same as a single 6-pin.

If the GPU included a single molex, it might be a lower watt card and is probably safe, but you always want to err on the side of caution. People have burnt out single molex adapters because they couldn't handle the current.

If the PSU didn't come with any molex cables.. You might need to run a SATA to molex adapter and then a molex to PCI-E, although I am not sure how stable that would be as it's a very uncommon situation.

I would try sending in a ticket with Corsair first. They have great support and might send you one for free or just charge you for it (I would take an actual PCI-E cable over a molex adapter any day).

Ok thanks for the reply. I think I'll stay away from the molex thing and I've already started a ticket with Corsair. I'm just being impatient and want to get this new card up and running.

Ok so the upgrading itch is returning, the R9 290 prices are getting pretty damn low these days with new prices around $330 with pre-owned hovering around $250. I have a 7950, this is gonna be a huge noticeable upgrade yes?

Also, has anyone done the "red" mod on their AMD graphics cards (closed-loop water cooling their card)? My CPU is already water cooled, but also looking at driving temps down since these chips run so hot.

By red mod, do you mean additional VRM cooling with heatsinks?

I installed a H55 + HG10 on Vansterdam's 290X.

Red mod = closed loop watercooler retrofit plus extra heatsinks on VRMs

[Official] AMD/ATI GPU Mod Club - AKA "The Red Mod"

Apparently Cooler Master's water coolers (120M, 120V, 120XL) all bolts on directly to any R9 290 with M3-20mm cap screws

I need to get rid of my 7950 before the prices really start plummeting. Anyone here interested?
