Anyone have experience with Edifier speakers?

Finally broke my Logitech X230 speakers of 10 years by accidentally dropping one of them and cracking it at the base.. looking for something to replace them with something of equal value.

Edifier M1380 (44.99 w/ pricematch)
Edifier M1380 2.1 Multimedia Speaker Set 28W RMS Black - M1380

Logitech Z213 (29.99 w/ pricematch)
Logitech Z213 Multimedia Speakers With Headphone Jack Control Pod & Adjustable Bass Subwoofer - 980-000941

I know Edifier are great, but are they worth the $15 price difference?

bigzz786786 05-24-2015 01:19 PM

Edifier will definitely be the better choice. It has a larger driver for the woofer, better bass levels and better crisp at higher volume.

They also have 70mm tweeter drivers where logitech doesnt. This means that the "treble" will not be muffled with the base coming from the speakers.

Where as the logitech will get muffled when at higher volume and for certain levels of bass.

If its for gaming, your going to want tweeters. Explosions will sound like you have a blown woofer without tweeters.

just bought a gtx 970 and saw this...

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC 1040MHZ 4GB 5.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card - GV-R929OC-4GD

Razor Ramon HG 05-25-2015 08:50 PM

Can't you still return it?

I just bought a Strix 970 today. Going for a silent and quiet build.

Kind of worried that the new AMD R9 300 series is going to rekt NVIDIA, but with the Witcher/Arkham Knight promo, I'm willing to take that risk.

knight604 05-25-2015 09:57 PM

amd rekt nvidia ? NEVER

Where are you price matching the Z213s? Looking at picking up speakers as well and these seem decent.

If I plug my headphones directly to the hub, the quality wouldn't be any worse right? I use a Xonar DGX sound card.

I ended up just getting a Kingston HyperX Cloud headset.. figured I needed a new mic and wanted upgraded headphones as well, that and I have speakers on my monitor.

Logitech 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System Rich Full Bass, Adjustable Bass, Control Pod

NCIX pricematched it for me using ASPM online (which is what I would recommend or doing an online order w/ in-store pickup) since in-store PM is always a hit or miss.

Buddy of mines PC is acting funky and he thinks it's the mobo. If he tries to boot it up with a keyboard and mouse plugged in he gets this error message and it won't go any further:

https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...52&oe=556A5381

I got him to try and reset the BIOS using the jumper but no change. Thoughts?

Motherboard: MSI MS-7599

Razor Ramon HG 05-29-2015 02:48 PM

Might be a faulty USB device or the motherboard. Try booting with only one USB device plugged in at a time to identify the culprit.

Razor Ramon HG 06-01-2015 02:33 PM

Currently testing my 4790K with an ASUS H97i-PLUS.

Got it running 4.6GHz @ 1.265v stable with only multiplier and voltage changes. Might be able to get it down a bit more.

Akinari 06-01-2015 04:10 PM

Got that free Win10 upgrade notification today. Still running on Win7, not sure if I want to do this :derp: I'm concerned about all the applications I have that only run on Win7 also if all my software is up-to-date and Win10 compatible.

Maybe I'll just stick with Win7 until it dies :lawl:

Traum 06-01-2015 04:18 PM

If we bite on the Win10 upgrade, does it mean it will void our Win7 licence?

Ideally, I'd like to try Win10 (with the free upgrade from Win7), and if I like it, I'll keep using it. But if it sucks, I want to be able to go back to Win7 and keep using that until M$ fix its game up.

lilaznviper 06-01-2015 07:08 PM

heard it was only valid for 1 year. not sure if thats true or not.

Razor Ramon HG 06-01-2015 07:26 PM

Upgrade is free within the first year. Costs money afterwards.

buy the 980ti that just came out today
you won't be using more than 6GB of frame buffer and save $350 for negligible performance difference

Welp it never made it that far, PC now won't boot at all. Now he's looking to fix/upgrade it, looking for suggestions from NCIX staying in the $6-700 total range.

Existing:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 (socket AM3)
Antec 600 case
600W PSU
8GB RAM (unsure on type, mobo was MSI MS-7599 if that helps)

Need suggestions for:
Motherboard that supports overclocking
CPU cooler (water could be nice if it can work with the case)
GPU
~120GB SSD

New Parts:
Intel i3-4160 - $135 @ DirectCanada
ASUS Z87-A - $120 w/ $20 MIR @ NCIX
Raijintek Aidos - $30 @ NCIX
Sandisk Ultra II 120GB - $75 @ NCIX
EVGA GTX 960 SSC - $240 w/ $10 MIR @ NCIX

About $640 after pricematches/taxes/mail-in rebates. Best that I could do while staying within your friends budget.

Reusable Parts:
RAM
Case
PSU

Notes:
* The i3-4160 is a Haswell Refresh CPU, so depending on the manufacturing date of the Z87-A, it might need a BIOS flash to be recognized.
* At $100 after MIR, the Z87-A is a steal for the price, and will let your friend pop in a i5-4690K down the road (if he wants) and overclock with ease.
* Raijintek Aidos is the best performance-per-dollar cooler and will let your friend do a moderate overclock if he upgrades to an unlocked CPU.
* Assuming your friend's current RAM runs at standard 1.5v, it will work fine in the new system. If it runs at 1.65v like some older sticks do, you'll want to lower the timings and run it manually at 1.5v for compatibility issues.
* The EVGA GTX 960 SSC requires a 8-pin power, so double check with your friend's power supply that it has the required plug. If he doesn't have it, get the ASUS Strix variant that uses a 6-pin power instead (which his PSU should have).
* As I am not sure what video card he has now, I'm just assuming it's a 5 year old card and selected a GTX 960 that would fit within budget. If he has a more recent and higher card, the GTX 960 might not be as substantial an upgrade.

underscore 06-04-2015 07:53 AM

Any reason not to reuse the Phenom 955? I know it's a bit dated but with some gentle overclocking I think it'd be up to snuff.

His current GPU is a 5700 series, I think a 5750, so the GTX 960 should be quite the jump.

Razor Ramon HG 06-04-2015 10:59 AM

The Phenom is very old and will bottleneck the video card. If he wants to just replace his motherboard to get his system up and running, it will be fine. No amount of overclocking is going to get it running as fast as a modern i3.

I am just assuming he wants an entire system overhaul.

And the GTX 960 will be a big leap forward. I had a 5770 before and that thing could only play the Witcher 1 on medium.

In what tasks? Are you gaming? how much hard drive space do you need? Is long battery life important to you?
