Just an update with tiger direct, obviously they denied my request saying its below cost....on the bright side, i managed to score a brand new msi gtx 970 4g gaming for 290 USD from ebay.com, Woot!!

Has anyone painted there video card shrouds? i hear it voids the warranty so im wondering if anyone has used plasti dip and if its held up well to the temps!

EVGA is selling their refurbished GTX 970 SSC for $260. EVGA has one of the best customer service in the business, so buying refurbished is basically buying brand new.

OOS at the moment, but they restock very often.

I don't like to buy shit from eBay anymore, especially more expensive things since eBay automatically charges custom import fees now. It's such a cash grab, jesus christ.

bigzz786786 07-26-2015 09:06 AM

^ evga has a few issues with there 970's plus in terms of the best 970 to get people always recommend the msi, plus i plan to do the "kracken" look.

I ship it to point roberts so ive never had to deal witm import fees.

Mike Oxbig 07-26-2015 11:00 AM

29.99 now bruh

That was with their first revision of the ACX cooler. The SSC ACX2.0+ version has no issue.

I run a Strix, but would take the EVGA one if given the option to now.

As for painting the shroud, I painted the XFX 280X I had in my previous build white as well as a few other components. NZXT S340 w/ MSI Z97S Krait Edition - Pure Sexiness - Album on Imgur I ended up adding a Kraken G10 to it later, but didn't take any photos of it.

I believe painting the shroud voids warranty, but it's ok to switch out the heatsink for another cooler or to open it up for repasting. If you want to be cautious, buy an aftermarket cooler and paint that. Plastidip is fine. The shroud doesn't generally get hot.

bigzz786786 07-27-2015 11:37 AM

Well this took and unexpected turn for the better. Tigerdirect contacted me this morning. They are honoring the price for the msi gtx 970 for 369.99:victory:

Now i have two 970 to sli:fuckyea:

Ps. I made sure it was canadian dollars and that it was the correct model, not the LE version.

I'm looking to replace my worn Blackwidow, which one would you guys recommend?
Cooler Master CM Storm Quickfire XT Cherry MX Blue Switch Slim Body Merchanical Keyboard - SGK-4030-GKCL1-US
or
Ducky DK2108SZ Blue Switch Blue LED 108 Keys Abs Keycap US Layout Mechanical Keyboard - DK2108SZ-CUSALAAB1

Leaning towards the Ducky... but it doesn't have the simple media keys that I'm used to from the Blackwidow...

knight604 07-30-2015 12:25 PM

Don't think that version of ducky has the media keys.

Razor Ramon HG 07-30-2015 12:28 PM

I recommend the CM one due to three things:

1) First hand experience. All CM peripherals that I've owned have been great and none have ever broke down on me. I currently use a Rapid-I and I highly recommend it for those looking for a tenkeyless.

2) Customer service. The current Rapid-I I'm using is actually a warranty exchange. I spilled some liquid on it a few months back, and the CM rep on Overclock.net instantly approved an RMA for me.

3) RMA center. It's located in Richmond. Simply bring your approved RMA to Daiwa on Viking Way and they'll give you a brand spanking new one.

I own the same ducky keyboard and half the LEDs are dead on the keyboard, started happening a year and half of owning it. Not saying its a bad keyboard, but for the price i paid, this shouldn't be happening after a year of use.

Razor Ramon HG 07-31-2015 01:05 PM

Raid 0 for SSDs is not just worth it.

Razor Ramon HG 07-31-2015 09:18 PM

Out of curiosity, I posted my computer on Craigslist with a price of $1999 to see what I could get for it.

My system is about $1750 after taxes, so while $1999 is overpriced, I wasn't expecting anyone to pick it up.

Intel Core i7-4790K, Asus GeForce GTX 970, Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ITX - System Build - PCPartPicker Canada

Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.2GHz
ASUS H97i-PLUS

Phanteks Evolv ITX
Seasonic X-750 750W 80+ Gold PSU
Cooler Master Nepton 240M CPU Water Cooler
Rosewill Hyperborea 140MM Case Fans

Then someone sent me this email.

I mean this pig has 8 GB ram, a small hard drive and you're charging $2000 for it? Oh wait you were hoping no one would notice with the $1999? Nice try! You're worse than Apple fan boys with their overselling of their macbook pros. Maybe you shouldn't have spent beyond your means for the computer. Anyway, I'll give you $500 for it and that is being really generous given how outdated the specs are on this machine. Even the macbook pro I am writing this on has 16 gb ram. And how many games are you supposed to store on a 250 gig harddrive. My mac pro has 512 gig SSD. Didn't know my pro was far better at gaming than your "top of the line" one.
I told him I'd take $1000 just to dick around with him, but he hasn't replied back.

SkinnyPupp 07-31-2015 09:31 PM

lol put in another 8GB of ram for $30 or whatever it is and maybe you can get $2000 for it

Akinari 07-31-2015 09:51 PM

I need a new SSD, finally running out of room on my 64GB Plextor, hovering around 5-6GB left. Haven't noticed any slowdowns at all but will probably soon. Any recommendations for some good 120GB SSDs? Samsung 840 Evo?

Razor Ramon HG 07-31-2015 09:59 PM

I think the Sandisk Ultra IIs are excellent SSDs for the money.

I run a 240GB in my desktop, and use a 120GB Samsung 850 Pro in my laptop.

I don't notice a difference.

Why run such a small drive in this day and age? The 240GB drives are only fractionally more expensive, and they tend to be faster than their equivalent 120GB models as well.

skip the 840 and go straight for the 850 evo. 840 evo's had the drive degradation issues. i'd recommend also looking at the 250gb or 500gb versions. newegg ebay has been putting them on sale recently so keep an eye out on RFD.

Use your existing SSD as boot and use your 2 new SSDs in RAID 0 for games. Do a fresh install for everything.

I have 2 SSDs in RAID 0 just for my games. Everything loads much faster.
