Manic's pre-built is a good deal if you rather not build one yourself. All you have to do after is throw in a decent video card and you're set.

They have a great reputation because they are cheap and do well in quick tests that most hardware sites and forum posters do

I just brought my 840Pro to the service centre, and they refused to repair my SSD. I said it keeps crashing every 2 weeks, the guy then formatted my SSD and said "it formats, nothing is wrong with it, okay, bye, there is the door"

Definitely will not buy another Samesung, regardless how many years of warranty they are giving me. :rukidding:

OCZ replaced my corrupted unit with a newer model, and Adata replaced with a new unit. Samesung sucks balls.

Vansterdam 08-19-2015 07:17 AM

shit im so glad I returned my 840 pro last minute and got the Intel one instead lol

asian_XL 08-20-2015 07:25 AM

the service centre guy claims they have a special formatting method, and no problem will occur anymore. WTF, if there is a special formatting method, then Samesung should release it to the public or make their SSD to work with normal formatting method. BS

Razor Ramon HG 08-20-2015 11:52 AM

Whenever I have HDD issues, I just run SeaTools. If it passes the short and long test, it's probably fine.

Samsung probably just formatted the HDD to ignore bad sectors. Not sure.

I have a i4770k, I would like to know if i6700k would be a good upgrade (assume both are overclocked). I see benchmark @ stock speed, but I do not see comment on the speed difference overclocked.

Razor Ramon HG 08-22-2015 12:02 PM

No

knight604 08-22-2015 12:48 PM

how about i7 920 to i7 6700k?

Razor Ramon HG 08-22-2015 04:21 PM

Yes, very significant upgrade

bigzz786786 08-25-2015 07:16 PM

Didn't want to create a new thread again, clearing out the room and some stuff I want to get rid of!

OCZ NIA Neural Impulse Actuator (Everything in Box)
Old Antec case with a s754 board and 1gb ram with a 6800 ultra apg (just needs a hard drive/powersupply)
6900 Waterblock with screws and 3//8 barbs if i can recall (
works for 6970 or 6950)

meowjinboo 08-26-2015 09:53 PM

Anyone have a full size case hanging around?

I have 2 7950's i want to SLI but my mid tower can't fit both ;(

Canadian Rider 08-30-2015 11:01 PM

Posted in the windows thread but this one might be more appropriate:

What's the cheapest way to get a legit copy of windows? (7,8 or 10)
I've looked at g2a and they run about $50 but I'm not sure if I trust that.

edit: I don't have any student connections so that option is out as well. The copy will be used to bootcamp my macpro for travelling.

Price wise, yes. But imo it's worth it. I had an Asus VG248QE and I don't regret it at all. Now I'll get the Acer XB270HU for the IPS 1440p@144hz w/ G-sync.

Expensive? Yes, very. Worth it? Yes, very. Should last years and the display is one of the most important parts of the whole computer, at least for me. If you don't need/want g-sync, of course there's better/cheaper options for 144hz.

Razor Ramon HG 09-07-2015 08:46 PM

I would stick with 60hz for now.

knight604 09-07-2015 09:48 PM

144hz overrated ? nah
pricey? yes.

Yeah, that's about the same as my 4790K with a CM Nepton 240M (although I have it at 1.12v/4.2GHz)

But in the grand scheme of things, idle temperatures are not as important as load. Use Prime95 26.6 and post your temperatures. You'll want something around 80 and under.

I finally got around to run to Prime95 on my computer. The weather is a bit cool today, 17C (not ambient). I ran Small FFTs for 10 minutes and reached a max of 79C on two cores (using CoreTemp).

I suspect that I may not have done a good job on installing the cooler.

hotong 09-11-2015 01:16 PM

Anyone selling PSU?

asian_XL 09-13-2015 06:37 AM

Core2duo series is simply never going to die. My parents have been using E2180 2GB ram, 320gb HD PC I built for 8-9 years. Installed another 2GB ram and Crucial M4 128mb from my old system 3 years ago, it was day and night difference. Then last week picked a $7 E3110 Xenon (E8400 equivalent), it runs Win10 like new PC.

I am pretty sure it will continue to last. lol

What settings are you running your CPU at? 79 degrees is alright since you're running a Hyper 212 with the 4790K. It's a good cooler, but starts shitting the bad at higher TDPs.

Do try to see if you can undervolt your CPU though. I manually set the voltage/clock speeds on my 4790K to 1.12v/4.2GHz and I usually maxed out at around 70 degrees across all cores with Prime95 26.6. This was with a Nepton 240M with both radiator fans silent at 800RPMs.

And make sure you use Prime95 26.6 and not the latest version. It includes instructions that heats the shit out of Haswell CPUs.

I have an older mobo with PCI-E 2.0 and looking to upgrade a video card.
I see that all the newer cards are PCI-E 3.0
Would I have to upgrade my mobo or are there other options for me?

jcmaz 09-19-2015 07:54 PM

Nope you don't have to upgrade your mobo to use PCI-E 3.0 video cards unless you are going for epic gaming builds with SLI/Tri-SLI/XFIRE. Why? Because multiple video cards could use up all the bandwidth provided by PCI-E 2.0 under high resolution.

However, there's no need to upgrade if you are just going for a single card solution.

What are the specs to your PC and what do you plan on upgrading your GPU to?
