I'm also considering the R9 380

Just wondering though is it that much of an upgrade over the 2GB 6900 I have now though?

Stats wise it looks like it's basically double everything the 6900 is, however my rig is still reasonably powerful in all other aspects

i7 6800k
16GB ram
Etc etc

Is the R9 a card that's going to last me another 3+ years or should I be waiting/spending more at this point in my rigs life?

Hondaracer 10-17-2015 11:44 AM

Ended up ordering the sapphire R9 390. Should be killer for the upcoming releases! Can't wait to see battlefront on ultra

Razor Ramon HG 10-17-2015 09:41 PM

You will be good to go for the next two years minimum.

Thinking of upgrading my graphics card. Currently using a gtx620. Any recommendations for anything under $200? Was looking at this http://www.ncix.com/detail/evga-gefo...94334-1277.htm

unless you are power-constrained by a crappy PSU...spend just a bit more to get the gtx 950

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX58828

it's a new card that performs better...the 750ti is almost 2 years old

EVGA GeForce GTX 950 SuperClocked Gaming, 2GB PCI-E w/ DVI, HDMI, Triple DP at Memory Express

would I need to upgrade my power supply or anything else to run it?

specs currently are
i7-3770 CPU @3.40GHz
10.0GB
geforce gtx 620
and the rest are just generic stuff..fked up and bought a hp comp when it was on sale lol..

twitchyzero 10-18-2015 09:32 PM

make sure there's a dual slot space where your video card connection is
look for a 6-pin PCIe power connector from your PSU
then you should be good to go

the 960 on promo is about the same price as 950 about 30 bucks more from time to time and its worth the 30 for sure

Ohhhh..you nasty huh?

Fuck..reading reviews however with the normal 390 it seemed like my corsair HX650 would be good enough but now on this overclocked version says right on the box 750+ :/

Guess I'll set it up see what the pull is, probably need a new PSU in short order :(

Razor Ramon HG 10-20-2015 08:02 PM

650W will be fine

underscore 10-20-2015 10:11 PM

I wonder just how many phone calls they got from dumbasses before they decided to put that sticker on there.

Lol GF said the same thing

hotong 10-21-2015 08:35 AM

^how much was the card?

twitchyzero 10-21-2015 08:46 AM

650w should be okay unless you overvolt, turn up the power target or jack up the memory clock.

$550 after tax, minus the $25 mail in rebate.

Was looking at spending around 3 but didn't make much sense in terms of the longevity, also the rest of my rig is still reasonably high end so an extra couple hundred wasn't a big deal.

I always seem to hit a bad time to upgrade where in new tech is just around the corner, but I guess you could really say that about anything

Hondaracer 10-22-2015 09:42 AM

Ffs..card is like a 1/4" too big for the fractal mid case..

Don't feel like returning it so just gonna cut back the hd tray stand

Buddy of mine bought a Sapphire R9 270X but it isn't playing nice with his Intel CPU, so he's offering to sell it to me for $200. Would it be a worthwhile upgrade from an HD7750 or 7770?

twitchyzero 10-22-2015 06:17 PM

for $200...not worth your time

Retrac 10-22-2015 06:54 PM

Anyone know a good place to buy watercooling stuff?

MikeyStyle 10-22-2015 07:33 PM

Used or new? He says it cost him $290 from Newegg new, and after costs he'd get back ~$200 if he returns it.
