Okay, so I told him that it wasn't going to happen for $800 if he wants a gaming computer with an i5. He really wants the i5, so he increased his budget.

I looked at NCIX's PCs for kind of a ballpark, so I took the Impact Tower Tier 1 as a sample and changed a couple of things (i5 6500 instead of 6400 for the extra $5, Gigabyte GTX 960 4GB instead of Asus to save $65).

Case: Corsair Carbide 230T Black ($79.98)
Power Supply: Corsair CX500 500W PSU ($64.25 after PM)
Motherboard: Asus B150M-A ($99.98 after PM)
CPU: Intel Core i5 6500 ($264.99)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 ($48.99)
Graphics: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB ($239.99 after PM)
Storage: Seagate ST1000DX001 1TB Hybrid ($89.99)
Optical: Asus DRW-24F1ST ($19.99)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-Bit ($124.99)

Shipping: $0.00
Sub-Total: $1033.15
Total: $1157.13

Any suggestions on changes?

would add in a cheap ssd to speed things up. 240gb can be had for under 100 bucks. and would recommend more memory but that can be done down the road.
if you get an ssd you can get a normal 1tb hard drive for about 60 bucks

Would prefer not to lend him much more (I'm picking up the difference between the $800 he has and what this will cost).

I see a bunch of 120 GB SSDs around $45, so maybe one of those for Windows and he can pick up a bigger one later if he wants to put games on an SSD.

Any of these superior to the other?

If you are paying for it.. get one of Acer i7 for $600 and let him upgrade to higher specs on his own.

Wait for the new R9 480. I'm expecting it to be about $299 and it will blow the GTX 960 out of the water.

If anyones looking for an Intel retail edge discount on a CPU, let me know. I may know "someone" who can help secure you one.

Just a heads up its only the i5 remaining

!Aznboi128 06-06-2016 08:30 AM

I'm surprised people are still doing that. It takes consistent 6 months of doing quizzes and stuff. I gave up lol

noTirl 06-06-2016 08:33 AM

It actually only took me like 2ish hours to complete it all. Was watching youtube while I did em.

But now you have to be active for the past 6 months consistently doing the test. Previously I just logged in and did all of them just before the drop.

lilaznviper 06-06-2016 04:03 PM

^i'll do the test consistently if it means a discount on an i7 chip lol. can I borrow said account?

Buy windows from this legit site Steam CD Keys and Game Keys - Compare & Buy | Kinguin.net for $35 Canadian and use the extra money for a SSD.

whats a good silent regular size case?? Must have window panel and around $100.

going to get a new system on the 1st of july with the new rx 480 and having NCIX to build it.

edit: i am sort of lost with ram / mobo, cpu will be i5 6500 as i dont plan to overclock, GPU is rx 480.

Any suggestions? Willing to spend around $150 for mobo, nothing too fancy but nothing too shitty (I do not want one with few pci slots and micro size, MSI / ASUS preferred)

NZTX source 340 is a great case if you don't need a optical drive or a ton of hard drives.

jtrinh 06-08-2016 01:55 PM

NZXT s340 is nice. I got a nzxt h440 instead since it was on sale. Larger than the 340 but comes with 4 fans. Easy to cable manage and to build in. No optical drive spot either.

Fractal design makes nice cases too. The "define" series focuses on silent computing. It was my second choice.

Verdasco 06-08-2016 02:04 PM

thx for suggestions, I will not be using a optical drive spot , year is 2016, it is all software now haha

Will look at NZXT and fractal "define"

what happened to brands like coolermaster??? They were dominant last time i checked in the 2009 era.... cosmo S , the current case I have was a big seller, CM 690 II , the HAF 932. Do they not make any good silent cases?

Razor Ramon HG 06-08-2016 06:12 PM

Window + silent case do not go together.

Get the Fractal Define S. I have it, and my entire computer is barely audible even when gaming (custom fan curves).

Just relaying what the NCIX rep told me when I asked NCIX a couple of days ago (because they rejected a pricematch, boo). He said he doesn't expect the new Radeons to be available until mid-July.

It is expected I guess since they have to wait for orders to come in to the warehouse :/

decided not to get the nzxt case since it does has audible noise while on load with games. gonna go with the S design since it is quiet while playing games

That's a great price.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
