Depends on the build you're trying to achieve.

I have a full board myself but I've seen some super compact PCs that have been amazing.

My current setup:

CPU: i5 3570K
Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z77
Cooler: Corsair H80
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280x
Ram: 16GB 2133mhz G.Skill
PSU: Cosair HX850
Case: BeQuiet Silent Base 800

I have a Noctua NH-D14 that I've been meaning to put on but just never got around to doing.

A lot of the 'unmodified' ISOs on torrent sites have spyware built into them

So guys, i've been a mac guy for almost a decade. Looking to get a desktop work/game station after years of just using a laptop and i simply cant justify going apple in this cause so I'm building my first PC again after years away from the platform. Wanna get some advice on whether the parts i choice is overkilled or not and which of the component i can save money on.

What I use it for:
NEED triple monitor support.
very light gaming
Work stuff
Always connect server
want it to be future proof, ideally will last me a good decade

Here's what i've configure from newegg.ca

any advice and comment would be appreciated!

For a video card look at the new RX480 coming out. Also I would go with an Intel CPU.

ohhh the rx480 looks cool but at 200$ us it will be pushing $300 in canadian. Not sure if I can justify it, don't play to use VR and not really a hardcore gamer.

Any reason for going with the more expensive intel? i'm not going to overclock it or anything, just want something efficient and hardy

Intel will be more future proof and the RX480 is a way better card then the 750TI. Might want to look on Craigslist for a used card. also a SSD is a must.

Do you mean a ssd on top on a sata hdd? Cause 1tb ssd is way too rich for my blood.

Yep. SSD for the OS and main apps and the 1 tb for the rest. Check out Redflagdeals.com . You would be surprised how cheap SSD's can be on sale.

Typically, Intel has got AMD beat for performance.

It really depends on what type of work you'll be doing too. 3D rendering/CAD, you'll want a work station video card. Video editing/ photo editing, iteration based calculation, mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, finite element methods/analysis, RAM + CPU power. Microsoft Office, this setup is overkill.

Edit: Unless you're running a server or mathematical modelling, more cores won't get your work done any faster.

i guess there need to be some clarification. by work i mean the standard Microsoft Office suite Some photoshop and audio editing although i don't know if I can get use to not using a mac for these things, Can't get away from Logic pro. I will probably use the video card for gaming the most, so i think the new rx480 might be way overkill.

What i mean as server is really just accessing files remotely. Would like to keep the whole setup 800$ or so.

How about software? where do i find a cheap but legit copy of windows? And which version of windows are most backward compatible with older softwares??

I have SSD on my macbook pro, its awesome but i'm thinking its overkill for this desktop setup that probably gonna be on 24/7 anyways. It is not a vital item and can be added later on

they are already out. Most of the x99 boards have the m2 slot for them. cost a lot more than the regular m2 drives though

Pretty sure if you run an Intel, you can dual boot. Meaning you can run iOS and Windows.

I'd wait until the new GTX 1070's come out. It's going to be a beast from what this forum is saying.

Remote access, you can probably setup a VPN or Nas and share your files.

A lot of companies are staying on windows 7. that's like the corporate OS right now.

Oh and an M.2 128GB SSD from Samsung, I'd reckon would be around 80 dollars when its released. 961 series that is.

That leaves 300 for a PCI-e SSD and GTX 10xx card. You can stay on a 1 TB mechanical drive for now, or spend like 60-80 dollars for a cheap SATA SSD. You'll be able to upgrade to a M.2 PCIe SSD when they get cheap.

H110 Mobos only support up to 2133MHz RAM, so I'd save $20 by switching the 2666MHz stick for a 2133MHz stick and put that $20 to getting an i5-6500 instead of the i5-6400.
