That's why I like NCIX, I am more than capable of building a system but for the $50 for them to assemble it, even if you don't load an OS on it of you ask nicely they will load one on then remove it after they run all their tests

It's not that big of a deal but it's nice to bring home a computer you at least know is working at the moment rather than running into unexpected problems with components that are unopened

Not a budget gaming setup, but would be nice because my cousin does a little bit of gaming. She currently plays L4D2 on some shitty GeForce 6000.

One question..

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core Processor 3.2GHZ AM3 8MB Cache 125W Retail Box
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core Processor 3.2GHZ AM3 8MB Cache 125W Retail Box - AMD - HDZ955FBGMBOX

ASUS M5A78L-M LX mATX AM3+ DDR3 AMD 760G 1PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 1PCI SATA2 VGA GBLAN Motherboard
ASUS M5A78L-M LX mATX AM3+ DDR3 AMD 760G 1PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 1PCI SATA2 VGA GBLAN Motherboard - ASUS - M5A78L-M LX

On the motherboard specifics, it says it supports CPUs up to 95W. The X4 955 has a TDP of 125W.

Will there be negative effects from this pairing? I did some Googling online, and from what I found, the CPU does run on the motherboard.

You would be running the voltage regulation circuit out of spec, and the board would probably die within a year.

That's why it's cheap.

What do you think of running this as an alternative then?

AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 Quad Core Processor 3.6GHZ Socket AM3+ 95W Retail Box

I actually haven't tested a low end Bulldozer yet, but I wouldn't get that motherboard

Razor Ramon HG 01-01-2012 09:37 PM

Ended up ordering an i3-2100 with a Gigabyte H61M-S2H mATX.

Reviews off Google seemed decent. What do you think?

dyan 01-03-2012 11:51 PM

Hey guys

Looking for a gaming rig, however i have no clue how to build my pc. Looking for some help

Budget ~1000 obo.

bobola 01-04-2012 12:32 AM

Just install my Intel 320 120GB ssd with fresh window 7 installation...

Should I move my temporary internet files into HDD?!

Mainly follow everything on this guide http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/s...-for-ssds-hdds

Cept the write cache part.

i would. doing so reduces the amount of writes on the ssd, prolonging its life.

bobola 01-04-2012 06:02 PM

Great done that to Firefox and IE (not that i ever use IE D;) !

How big should pagefile be set to ?
I shrink to 1024 mb min/max.. and I still get error on bf3

Running 4GB ram..

zonda_s 01-04-2012 09:09 PM

i just created a 10gb parition on one of my hard drives to put all my temp files/cache and pagefile stuff. i used the system managed size option. i don't think it matters much really in terms of how large it is. at least i haven't noticed any difference.

what kind of error are you getting? did this start happening before or after any changes you made?

!MiKrofT 01-04-2012 09:35 PM

The swap file should be at least equal to double the amount of ram. I didn't bother doing any settings on my ssds for desktop or laptop. Not worried about wear.

SkinnyPupp 01-04-2012 09:46 PM

Don't fuck around with your pagefile and settings like that. Windows 7 is aware of SSD, and will make the best use of it possible if you just leave it alone.

Here is a build that I have come up with mainly for gaming and school. Hopefully it will last me a few years. Let me know if theres anything I can improve on TIA!

- Intel i5 2500k cpu
- Asus P8Z68-V LX mobo
- Kingston Hyper X 8Gb ram
- OCZ Vertex 3 120Gb SSD
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX560 Fermi videocard
- Antec High Current Gamer 620W psu

cctw 01-04-2012 11:25 PM

^i would get the 560ti instead of the 560 and not use OCZ ssd..
