For $260, I would take the 970. The 1060 is going to cost around $375 to $400 pre-tax, but the performance difference doesn't warrant paying an extra 50-60%. |

RX 480 was $199 USD and its around $350+ , fucking joke $260.00 for EVGA GTX 970 is a steal for similar performance of RX 480 Also, there is a deal for 144hz acer 24inch monitor on amazon prime (sign up for free trial) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00KO4518I/...NGSK9Y1FG64Z4X |

What's backwards compatibility like for laptop drivers these days? If I need to run 7 Pro am I stuck just buying laptops that come preloaded with it or can I pick up a 8.1/10 laptop and load 7 on it without too much difficulty? |
Well my 7950 took a shit on me, starting showing symptoms consistent with overheated memory last night while browsing the web and idling listening to Spotify. Vertical blue lines and squares for awhile, and then the screen blacked out shortly after. Tried restarting a few times in safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers, was a little better, a checkerboard pattern with blue lines came and went, followed by flickering white lines, screen went black again. Restarted a few more times, then it got to the point where even during the startup BIOS and Windows boot screen there would be two huge vertical blue lines followed by red flickering artifacts. Then after a few more restarts, and reseating of the card, along with changing the HDMI cable and using the DVI as well, it just stopped showing anything beyond the BIOS and Windows boot screen. I'm under the assumption that it is a hardware failure, as I haven't updated the graphics drivers recently and never has this happened before. Bloody XFX, at least break on me while I'm gaming or running the card intensively not at idle with all temps in check...and the previous owner I bought it from didn't fucking know to register it for lifetime warranty  In that case, GTX1060 or RX 480  |
Gonna start piecing the stuff together. Is black friday/cyber monday the best time? Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
I find Cyber Monday has pretty good deals if you can wait. |
I like to buy near a product's launch...the slight premium you pay for retail price is worth the $50-100 you might save from waiting 3-6 months and for product longevity/relevance. What good is waiting months for a 25% off sale only for the new products to come out 2 months later and be 40% faster? Back to school usually has good deals but it's been a few years since I've shopped for hardware so before our dollar went to complete shit this is interesting though http://www.anandtech.com/show/10512/...nce-early-2015 Quote:

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but don't want to create a new thread. I was looking into this and this looks pretty neat for only $99 too. What are your thoughts on this? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...nto-a-laptop-f |
Have any of you guys picked up a laptop in the US before? It's seeming like you get a lot more for your money, even when you factor in the currency exchange. Unless these specs are wrong somehow this seems stupidly cheap. ASUS K501UX Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 4K Ultra HD - 2GB Graphics |

The similar Canadian model for an equivalent CAD price has a lower res screen, less RAM, and a smaller SSD. I haven't found anything in Canada for near that price range with a 4k screen. |

You can wait for this to come back in stock. Little more expensive, but double the storage, way better CPU and video card, and better build quality. Save most of the taxes with the educational discount and you get a free tablet. |
That's starting to push a bit beyond the budget I'm aiming for, I'm buying at least 2 (possibly as many as 4) and they'll be used for work so I also need to factor in the upgrade to W10 Pro as well. |
for work that's more than great but think about the return/warranty got something through dell us...wouldn't do it again. costco should be much better but you are buying a few |
long shot here, anyone have a microsoft intel 1.1 mouse? black version will pay $10.00 and pick up if its new or in new condition, $5.00 is used |

Ended up picking up an i3-6100, for the stuff I do on my PC, I couldn't justify the extra $150 for an i5-6xxx. Plus, planning on OCing this thing with a Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 5, and then snag a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 whenever it's released :alonehappy: |
:fuckyea: USD$420 GTX 1070 going into my 4770k, 8gb |
