Just built my first pc! Everything is running fine, but when I play Overwatch my fps hovers around 20-30 and then my computer shuts down after a few minutes. My graphics card is an R9 380 4GB and it should be getting like triple the fps. Also it shouldn't be my PSU since it is a brand new EVGA 500W. What could be the problem? Drivers? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is the PSU. The R9 380 4GB seems to be quite a power-hungry card, with online reviews / testing pegging it to draw anywhere between 190W to almost 260W at 100% load. Depend on how power is delivered by your PSU, you may really not have enough juice to keep the monster fed.
Check your PSU again and look for the power delivery sticker. How many watts / amps is delivered over how many rails? That'll give the experts some idea whether your PSU is adequate to service the video card.
So I ran DDU and got the driver for my GPU. It was working a bit better and I had consistent FPS at 70 and after like 3 min my GPU temp started rising to 90 celsius and breaking 100 celsius. FPS started dropping rapidly and I could feel a system shut down coming so I closed the game. Idling, my temp was at 67 celsius. What could be doing this?
This screenshot was taken after just sitting on the main menu for a bit:
Note: I've tried tampering the fan speed on afterburner and did not do anything
First open up your case and make sure the GPU fan is spinning. Then open Afterburner and try taking the fan out of auto and force it to 100%. I'm not familiar with Afterburner but if you scroll down on the right it might show fan speed as a graph as well, if it sits at 0% all the time in auto mode something's wrong.

Yep GPU fans are not spinning lol even after forcing with afterburner. Is it a faulty GPU? everything looks to be plugged in correctly right? If it wasn't plugged in correctly my game would not run? Also thanks for spotting that!
UPDATE: turns our nothing wrong with the card, my friend just plugged it in really shitty... Idling at around 40 now lol everything looks good
No cable, no mounting is mainly why I went M2. Anytime I can get rid of a cable, that's a bonus (especially given how flimsy SATA connectors are). The difference on my drive (Sandisk X400 1TB) was less than $10 when I bought it.
any build i do now is all m2 drives as they are almost the same price as the regular ssd depending on the brand. less cabling needed and most newer boards have the slot for it already so why not use it.
Looking to eventually build a gaming pc, but currently just looking for a monitor to use with my mac that is also futureproof for gaming. Looking to spend $300, maybe up to $400 if its worth it. So far the two that kinda stand out to me is Benq xl2411z or the Benq rl2755hm. Any other suggestions? I heard getting atleast 1440p and 144hz is best but cant find anything in my price range.
because a good monitor like a good video card will cost you
really depends on what games you play...if it's mostly fps then sure 120hz+ would be nice
i value image quality so better colour reproduction is more important to me...play counter-strike on 60hz just fine
