For intel builds, you should budget a bit more. for less go with AMD build.

My recent intel build was a i5 6500, asus z170-a montherboard, hyper-x 16gb ram, patriot 500gb ssd, corsair 200 case,corsiar 500psu, 2x 2tb seagate hd
total was 1.2k with taxes. tried to get everything on sale.

already have my items already, everything bought

anyone use open hardware monitor to monitor cpu and gpu?? i'm just wondering anyone know what the temperature under the mobo represent i see cpu core and then temperature 1-6 and one of them jumps out at me as it's over 100 degrees trying to figure out what it is

lilaznviper 11-11-2016 01:26 AM

not familiar with the software you are using, but try downloading core temp and viewing the temp from there

Need a new (WiFi) router at home since the current one is too shxtty unstable, and NCIX just happens to have 2 seemingly good options to consider:

pre-Black Friday special -- $200
Linksys WRT1900ACS Dual Core 1.6GHZ 512MB DDR3 RAM AC1900 Open Source Router - WRT1900ACS-CA - NCIX.com

same model, but it is a refurb unit -- $160
Linksys WRT1900ACS-RM Dual Core 1.6GHZ 512MB RAM AC1900 Open Source Wireless Router - Recertified - WRT1900ACS-RM - NCIX.com

Generally speaking, I am not particularly concerned about buying refurb stuff for myself, and my experience with refurbs has generally been positive. I'd say close to 90% of my refurb items have been trouble-free. But since the router is almost a mission critical piece of hardware, I'd prefer to have a little more reliability than usual. Then again, $40 off on a $200 purchase is a significant amount.

Does anyone have any previous experience with Linksys / Cisco refurbs?

With how the exchange rate is, is it even possible to get a decent gaming computer anymore for $1000?

That's a mITX build that I'm thinking of downgrading to from my current GTX 1080.

This one is more budget oriented, but will have the same performance levels.

yup... plenty!

I just finished building a build for my girlfriend consisting of this

used GTX970 and 250gb SSD from razor ramon for $350

used bitfenix white pandora mATX case for $70 from red flag deals (ABSOLUTELY A FUCKING STEAL!!)

8gb ram for $35 from red flag deals

Bitfenix modular 750w for $60 from red flag deals (BRAND NEW!!!! still in plastic wrap)

OS for $30 kinguin.net

CPU quad core i5-4xxx haswell model from hardware canucks for $165 (BRAND NEW!! , guy just received it from RMA and the sticker on the box is not even ripped!! good steal!)

mATX motherboard that supports m2 from ncix for $140 (very hard to get a LGA 1150 motherboard that supports m2 that is cheap used.... that is mATX as well haha)

total for everything is $850.00 that can handle any game I slap on

you really have to dig around the used market website, craigslist, hardware canucks, and redflagdeals to get a really good savings

if i bought this all new, would cost me $1150 - $1200+

the case is a friggin steal, guy is local from vancouver and is a reviewer for a known computer part website and only tested the case for a couple of days, feels brand new.... really gotta update yourself and check the sale section every morning or night incase someone else buys it

Hondaracer 11-21-2016 05:53 PM

Razor Ramon HG 11-22-2016 07:32 PM

Selling a Civ VI game code for PC if anyone interested.

mikemhg 11-23-2016 10:57 AM

Anyone recommend building a new PC off of New Egg, seems like they have some decent black friday deals, but I'm thinking if the exchange rate would kill those savings.

Better to buy in Canada or no?

underscore 11-23-2016 12:32 PM

Just multiply the price by 1.34, but why not shop NewEgg.ca or NCIX?

lilaznviper 11-23-2016 02:36 PM

newegg sometimes have better deals than ncix.
newegg has a canadian website and you can pickup in richmond as well so save the shipping cost.

Hondaracer 11-23-2016 03:58 PM

^might be better going with the skylake i5 and compatible mobo as ddr4 is cheaper than ddr3 nowadays

Hondaracer 11-23-2016 04:57 PM

NCIX PC builder is kind of annoying as you cant really fully customize your options.. :/

Verdasco 11-23-2016 05:01 PM

$1500 get a i7 or i5 skylake

Razor Ramon HG 11-23-2016 05:12 PM

Use this build instead.

Don't need to get a nice motherboard if you're running a locked CPU. Any basic ones will do.

Have the same one in my brother's system right now with an i3-6100, and it works perfectly.

BTW, if you're willing to stretch some money out, I have a GTX 1080 I'm trying to sell for $700.

Akinari 11-23-2016 11:05 PM

Waiting for an 8GB RX480 to go on some crazy sale for BF  so painful how Canadians get shafted for a lot of PC parts for BF. I see plenty more good deals on the r/buildapcsales versus the Canadian version :okay:

That's a really good deal. You could resell the Oculus for like $700 on Craigslist. Making this a $700 gaming PC.
