^been reading a lot of failure issues with ocz drives every site i'm going to..like BSOD..lost data..and speed issues maybe OCZ has tried to fix these probs with firmware updates but alot of ppl are reluctant to give OCZ another chance.. i wouldn't want to take the chance if the ssd has my OS and stuff in it..but if you don't mind its alright i guess.. |
lots of people with bad experiences in owning them. has a 3 yr warranty i think but to get it replaced it takes i think 6 weeks or so. |
The BSOD issues were on all SandForce based drives, and were fixed by a firmware update. Anything else is just rumors and cases of 'vocal minority' |

Performance wasn't affected for me. It is possible that performance tweaks could have affected stability, but I don't think that would be the case if every single SF drive is affected by the bug. |
Yeah latest ocz firmware has fixed any of the original issues. No need to stop recommending them or steering ppl away. I've got the agility 3. |
btw, just a heads up for crucial m4 owners and ones that maybe on the market for it. there seems to be an issue with the drive once it nears the 5200 hour mark. more info here: Re: 0x00000f4 error on M4 64GB - Page 9 - Crucial Community just before everyone goes into panic mode, 5200 hours = 216-217 days of continuous use so this may not apply for most people yet. edit: i own an m4 128gb myself and haven't noticed any issues yet. most likely because i an nowhere near that 5200 hour mark. |

i just got mine today...how u like your m4? |
"We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting a small number of users whereby their m4 causes their system to require a restart. This issue occurs after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use. Following the initial reboot, the system then requires subsequent restarts after each additional hour of use. However, the data on the SSD is unaffected and will not be lost due to this condition. Through our investigation, we have determined the root cause of the problem and will be releasing a firmware update that rectifies the situation. We are currently running through our validation and compatibility process. Once this process is complete, the firmware will be made available to our customers. Although we understand the desire of some people to start using unreleased firmware now, we want to ensure that our solution works across multiple chipsets, systems, and operating systems before publishing the release code. We are currently targeting the week of January 16th, 2012 to publicly release the new firmware update. We understand the impact that this is having on some users right now and apologize for this inconvenience. We appreciate your continued support, feedback, and patience as we finalize code and resolve this issue. Dude, Crucial Employee, US" well at least they're not too slow in responding to customer's request publicly. have my fingers crossed for my M4 |
Thanks for all the input, ill look into some other SSDs before making a decision. If I do get the Vertex ill let u guys know how it is. |
Does anyone know if Dell HK hold days of deals sales? looking to get a 23-24" for my dad in HK. |

At first I disable pagefile.. but then googled a bit.. not recommand for people with 4 gb or less... So I went with 1024 mb.. But still get the same error .. but window tell me to close it.. doesnt freeze the comp.. Now I check automatic manage pagefile .. Doesnt freeze or anything.. I'm guessing people only do it to save room for their ssd? But I still have quite a bit of space left...! |
As Mr and skinnypup say you don't need to mess with anything special for the ssd. You always need a swap file. |
update on the crucial m4 "problem": Re: 0x00000f4 error on M4 64GB - Page 15 - Crucial Community problem identified and firmware fix on the way! there's no need to hit the panic button at all. Quote:

To the computer literate.. What do I need to do in bios and windows once I get my PC and set it up for SSD as boot? Set controller to achI in bios and disable prefetch and format in windows?? What else.. Posted via RS Mobile |
People, stop doing things like disabling prefetch and cache, etc. You are breaking windows. It is meant to work with all that stuff on, and is aware of SSDs, so there's no reason to move or disable them. Posted via RS Mobile |
Okay well I don't know. This is my first time using ssd and ive been trying to google it. Do I need to do anything besides switch controller to achi? What about boot priority? And where to put pagefile and what settings with 8GB ram? Posted via RS Mobile |
Just run it in ahci and you're good. Posted via RS Mobile |
There are a few stuff you could turn off in windows when you get SSD. It doesn't affect the OS much, it's only comes down to the constant reading the SSD for data feed. But you don't really need that when your drive is fast enough. (you won't notice much performance difference) It only theoretically shorten your SSD life. (not by much, but for those anal enough to care) Some of them that I can think of for Win7: drive indexing (allow faster access to file on HDD, but SSD is too fast to need this) defrag schedule (again, not exactly needed on SSD) |
Like I keep saying over and over and over again. Windows 7 is aware of SSDs. You do not need to disable anything. It will disable the things it doesn't need for you, such as defrag schedule, superfetch, etc. leave that alone, leave the pagefile alone (moving it is stupid since you would be losing the benefit of having an SSD in the first place), etc. That's the last I'll say on this. It still bothers me to see bad advice being given over and over again though. If you want to follow that, go for it, but don't repeat it if you don't know what you're talking about. |
So... this is what im planning to build... any suggestion/comment on it? i7 2700k heatsink: ? which would be good for the i7? ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 Corsair Vengeance 12GB/24gb ddr3 560 ti (any particular brand)? thanks |
you got the CPU wrong there. You need to be looking at LGA1155 chips |
