For fans, you need to figure out what you want them to do first. Are you looking for silent fans? Ones with high airflow? Ones with LED lights?

The main things to look for with fans are: 1) Size/thickness (mm) 2) CFM 3) Bearing type 4) Price 5) Extra features (loudness/lighting/color scheme etc...).

We ask this because we could recommend you a 120mm Delta fan that spins fast enough to chop your fingers off and is loud or a 120mm Corsair RGB lighting fan

A larger fan will generally be able to spin at a lower rpm for the same cfm (and therefore be quieter) so maybe check your case and make sure that the fans it came with are the max size for each spot.

whoops. LOL! I was browsing memory express and thought i'd selected the right size and didn't think much about it from there :failed:

Well, when I feel the display window of my case, I do notice that it gets quite warm, so i'm assuming theres not enough air flow to keep it relatively cool. So, in terms of what i'm after, obviously a quiet fan would be nice but i'd like to make sure the computer isn't keeping too much heat trapped. Lights, while they look nice, are just a bonus that isn't necessary.

So, a decent balance between noise and air flow, the lights I can do with or without

I believe the max sizes would be the 120mm and 90mm. i'm just a noob and started looking at, and posting links for 200mm fans :lawl:

I'm sure you can make them fit, bust out the dremel!

For you gurus out there, is there a significant performance difference between B150 vs H110 motherboards? More ports and future upgrades aren't a priority. I'm on a (not so tight) budget.

jcmaz 12-14-2016 03:19 PM

For the side window 90mm fan, I would go with this Fractal Design fan: Fractal Design Silent Series R2 92MM Quiet Cooling Fan 1300RPM 24.6CFM 13DBA w/ Rubber Fasteners - FD-FAN-SSR2-92 - NCIX.com

The included grommets will help isolate vibrations. I would use this 90mm fan slot as an exhaust fan.

For the 120mm fans, I would go with either Fractal Design R2 fans or Corsair Air series. They are nice and quiet and output a good amount of airflow.

Corsair Air Series AF120 LED Blue Quiet Edition High Airflow 120mm Fan, Twin Pack at Memory Express
Fractal Design Silent Series R2 Blackout Edition 120mm Quiet Cooling Fan 1000RPM 66CFM 18.5DBA - FD-FAN-SSR2-120-BK - NCIX.com

Most B150 and H110 boards are identical to each other minus maybe a few extra SATA ports or a M.2 slot. For most people, a H110 board will be fine.

I run a B150M board myself.

thanks for the recommendation!

had a chance to take out my current ones just to try and find out some specs on it. I can only assume the ones suggested are upgrades to both?

The 90mm side/window fan is this:
Thermaltake TT-9025A-2B 90mm Case Cooling Fan - Newegg.ca

The two 120mm fans at the front and back of the case is this:
TT-12254P, TT-1225 120mm Black Case Fan, 4-Pin Power Connector, THERMALTAKE

Thanks again for any feedback guys!

I'm hoping that this Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan will last more than 5 years in a horizontally mounted position.

Got a Bitfenix Spectre Pro. Couldn't find any fan in the same price range that wasn't a sleeve type bearing.

is there a way to find out if an older mobo can boot off pcie before i order the ssd?

Core 2 Duo LGA 775 era boards lol

lilaznviper 12-28-2016 09:46 AM

bought a zotac 1060 6gb from mikes computer shop for 289.99. Reviews had it better than the rx480 8gb

extracrunchie 12-29-2016 02:41 PM

Just upgraded my ssd, it was painless with the data migration or cloning. Plugged the new ssd in and cloned my current ssd. Swapped the drives and bam up and running. Took less than 30 minutes 😀

Would it be in an online manual? Or boot into your BIOS and see if there's a setting for PCIe to boot from.

i7-6700K came in from Intel.

Holla if you interested in buying an i5-6600 (non-K) for $220.

SaviorSelf_666 12-29-2016 08:47 PM

My 6850k came in as well. Might sell my 4790k, mobo and ram or start a MATX build.

Don't really resell my gear but what's this stuff worth?

Looking to reconfigure my monitor setup.

Currently my main is an Asus VX238H-W, secondary is a crappy Samsung S24B300. Both 23".

Looking to get a 21:9 as my main, and use my Asus as a vertical-orientation secondary with a VESA stand.

Because everything on my desk is white (tower, speakers + stand, Asus monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.), I want to get a white bezel 21:9 monitor as well. This is nearly impossible!

Only one in existence that I could find is the LG 34UM58W which is an Asia-specific model.

Anyone else know of any?

Wait till around April when the CES announcements become real product + super bowl you will probably have more choices.
