12 large could probably build you a lan cafe

twitchyzero 01-05-2017 10:07 PM

mother of god

I have seen 8K in-person (well like a 70-80 incher)...it was like looking through a window

underscore 01-05-2017 10:35 PM

I feel like displays are just getting silly, like our latest work laptop has a 15" 4k screen. What's the point of that? a 32" running 8k is probably about the same, and I'm guessing you'll need an absolute beast of a machine to run that at a decent frame rate.

I really hope video will go to 1080p60 instead of 4k30 but I'm doubting it.

lilaznviper 01-05-2017 10:41 PM

at the 4k resolution with a small screen its nice to have depending on the field of work.

twitchyzero 01-05-2017 10:59 PM

everyone was saying 4K displays are pointless 5 years ago...fast foward to today and it's reasonably priced. A TV or monitor is $500-600? Your $10/mo Netflix subscription supports it.

no i dont think anyone is realistically planning on gaming at 8K anytime soon

for professionals pixel-matching high-res photos or studios rendering 4K/8K videos, this is going to be ordered in bulk.

4K at 5.5" and 12.5" next to QHD it is a noticeable difference for me

From what I here 4K netfix looks like a Blu-ray disc. You cannot watch 4k Netfix unless you are running a new Intel Kaby lake CPU. Something to do with DRM. Also HDR is a mess. There are 4 different HDR standards right now and not all HDR capable TV's support all 4 standards.

Mated my 2x EVGA 1080 GTX FTW cards to a couple EK Acetal + Nickel GPU blocks and EK backplates with an EK FC Terminal Dual Serial block.
Re-routed some lines and replaced some faulty fittings that were leaking as well. For coolant I used Mayhems pastel white.

DragonChi 01-08-2017 08:30 PM

^ Holy Jesus. What do you use that for?!

twitchyzero 01-08-2017 08:59 PM

^minesweeper i'm guessing

netflix looking blu-ray quality is already pretty good
you can watch it through roku etc, but on PC yes you need kaby lake
HDR10 and Dolby Vision are the big ones...the others afaik are pseudo

twitchyzero 01-09-2017 10:29 PM

that triple screen razer laptop was stolen from CES

they're claiming it's likely espionage...i dont think it's that difficult to create in-house so could just be a publicity stunt

edit nm: looks legit...they're offering $25k in reward for any information

Well Linus was offered 20K by someone for that 21 inch Acer laptop. Hifi man had there 50K headphones stoles but the thief forgot to take the tube amp needed to run them.

Anyone in the market for a 27" monitor?

Selling a BenQ EW2750ZL because it's not VESA-compatible and I need a smaller wall-mountable monitor since I'm downgrading table size.

Max Keyboard Keycap, Cherry MX Switch, O-Ring Pro Sampler Tester Kit

Anyone want a free Cherry MX switch sampler?

Basically lets you test eight different kinds of Cherry MX switches (to find the one you like).

Max Keyboard sent it to me by accident when I bought some key caps from them. Used it for a week as a stress reliever and it's been in my drawer since.

EDIT: Also have a 200mm fan by Phanteks for free. Haven't tested it since it was a stock fan for a case I bought a year back. http://www.phanteks.com/PH-F200SP.html - the white colour.

I am using an EVGA Supernova B2 750W, the ball bearing fan in the psu has been screeching, worn out. I applied some WD40 and it fixed the screech for two weeks and it's come back, I tried WD40 again and still screeching. I applied some lithium grease, screeching gone, but feels like there's some friction and making some slight humming sound.

I went to get a new fan and wanted to replace the whole damn POS PSU stock fan and when I was about to plug it in, it's a 3 pin for aftermarket fans and the PSU can only take 2 pins. Any way I can get around this?

twitchyzero 01-23-2017 10:57 PM

new PSU

My psu still fairly new, 2 years old lol

Verdasco 01-24-2017 08:47 AM

hmmm not sure if 2 years is considered new for computer technology

roastpuff 01-24-2017 08:55 AM

Why didn't you RMA it? Should still be under warranty?

Manic! 01-24-2017 10:38 AM

Just plug the fan in if it fits. It will work.

You can also get an adapter: 3-pin to 2-pin Black Power Adapter Converter Cable for Motherboard B2P YA-B2P

I didn't want to send it in and be out my PSU for several weeks since my desktop at home, I need to use it to do work.

Plus I voided the warranty when I took apart the PSU haha

Reeyal 01-25-2017 09:38 AM

I usually shop on:
www.ncix.com
www.newegg.ca
www.amazon.ca

I just do price comparison among all three.

roastpuff 01-25-2017 10:27 AM

Try PC Part Picker Canada
