Can any one recommend me a good mother board for an intel i5 2500k? Planning to SLI with two GTX 570s. Good if the motherboard has enough space for two graphics card for air and decently priced.

TIA

Semi-noob question here:

How do you tell if memory and your motherboard are compatible? My mobo (ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3) is a year old and the QVL has not been updated since May 2010, according to the ASUS website. Since RAM prices are so low, I figure I may as well buy now.

RAM in question is this: Vengeance, mobo as listed above.

If you look at the mobo on the asus site > specification > memory
it tells you that it is ddr3. generally all recent boards will be using ddr3.

Really... 16x AA on BF3 and no frame rate slowdown? What FPS are you averaging? On a single 6950?

Z68 ATX board of some sort... you can pick them up for slightly over $120.

And on what resolution? A 19" Monitor?

roastpuff 10-03-2011 05:32 PM

He says 1080P... and I think he's confusing AA with AF. 16x AF is not too big of a deal... 16X AA I would really like to see!

Hondaracer 10-03-2011 05:41 PM

the AA i was talking about was with Metro 2033, with BF3 im running full out with just the stock "maximum" settings, 1080p on a 24" Dell Ultrasharp

2x 460GTX is already faster and cost less than a single 580.

But I'm not sure if 2x 560 is gonna be the same. I'm guessing it would be a bit faster than a single 580. The cost of 2x 560 is around the same as a single 580

Might upgrade CPU/MOBO/RAM/GFX this christmas.. What's the differences between a Z68 or P67 board? Last time I paid attention to chipsets was P45/X48

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2011 08:40 PM

I talk about it a bit in my Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 Review

roastpuff 10-03-2011 08:42 PM

Also good article here on advantage of Z68 and SRT: The Intel Z68 Express Review: A Real Enthusiast Chipset : Z68 Express Chipset: What P67 Should Have Been

@RennSport - but then with the 580 he has the ability to SLI them in the future. Thus trumping the 560Ti SLI... And the price difference between two 560Ti and one GTX580 is not much.

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2011 08:49 PM

ALWAYS go for single card over SLI when you can. SLI introduces issues like compatibility and framerate stuttering.

.Renn.Sport 10-03-2011 09:11 PM

Yea, I guess I should just go with a 580...

also, how would the maximus IV extreme Z compare with gigabyte's Sniper 2?

Hondaracer 10-03-2011 09:13 PM

does anyone know much about the "TPU" switch on my mobo? should it be on/benefits? automatic optimization of clock speeds? so will it kick up the i7 2600k?

here is what i'm running Metro 2033 at and some screens

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...1-43-08-78.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...yer/tunnel.jpg

during almost any scene/action i dont drop below 20FPS, so i wouldnt think 20 is great? but everything in high action time is very smooth, i'm using stupid "Fraps" to take screen shots, anyone recomend any other screen shot program? my prt screen isnt working to take stills..

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2011 10:07 PM

It must be nice to find 20 fps to be playable

roastpuff 10-03-2011 10:12 PM

20 fps? http://www.elevenwarriors.com/sites/...4/yao-meme.png

PornMaster 10-03-2011 10:42 PM

2x 460 is not > Gtx 580

I don't see how it's not, there's almost no slown downs at any point, visuals are great etc, also I'm just getting my FPS through that fraps program when the screenshot is taken so I don't know how accurate it is?

Hey im trying to slap together a budget rig. The prices are before tax and most of them are on sale items when purchased.

Radeon HD 6850 - $150 ($20+$30 Rebates = $100 total.. if I can get both rebates)
AMD Phenom II Black Edition X4 980 - $160
Cool Master V8 CPU cooler - $40
Cool Master 120mm Cooling fan x2 - $10 ($5bucks each, might get a 3rd one)
OCZ FATAL1TY 550W power supply - $30
Corsair Vengeance 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 - $60 ($60sale at ncix but will price match it at ME for 25% difference off)
Antec Three Hundred Versatile Mid Tower Gamer - Free

Roughly total price $450
Missing Harddrive + mother board

But I do have this mother board
MSI 870-G45 mother board - $50 ($15 mail rebate discount )
Or
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=60...nufacture=ASUS
ASUS M4N68T-M V2 - $66

Not sure if I want to keep it or not.. what do you guys think about it?

Most likely will overcloak it to 4 or 4.1

20fps is more like a series of pictures being shown really fast rather than a video.
You dont feel the choppyness when playing at 20fps?

AdF.ly - shrink your URLs and get paid!

this video will show u the difference

Hondaracer 10-06-2011 07:27 AM

Is there a reliable program to display FPS? Or should I just try to search down commands to display in game?

Because what FRAPS is showing doesn't seem to reflect the actual gameplay I'm experiencing, besides areas with massive detail and tonnes ambient lighting there are almost no slow downs even in high action situations

Btw, anyone know much about the TPU switch on my mobo? Automatic clock speed optimization? Seems like a good match with the 2600k but from reading on overclock.net the general sentiment is that it's better off manually overclockin than using the switch?

Like I said, if you find 20 fps to be acceptable that's a good thing for you! For me, if the fps ever drops below 30 even for a millisecond, I have to lower the settings

Im pretty sure fraps is limited to showing 20 fps even if youre not recording
google "fraps 20fps"

If you're buying from NCIX:

Buy Yate Loon fans instead. On sale $3.99
NCIX.com - Buy Yate Loon D12SL-12 120MM RED/BLACK Fan 1350RPM 47CFM 28DB 3/4PIN Sleeve Bearing OEM Sleeved Retail - Yate Loon - D12SL-12-RED/BLACK - in Canada

Personally I'd get the Coolermaster Hyper 212 over the V8
NCIX.com - Buy Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 LGA1366 LGA1155 LGA1156 120MM - COOLERMASTER - RR-B10-212P-G1 - in Canada

Not too familiar with AMD CPUs/AMD chipsets so I'll let someone else chime in on that one.

BTW what's the main purpose for your rig? I'd check Craigslist/RS B&S to see if there's any reasonably priced rigs
