How about this one ? Gigabyte - GA-AB350-GAMING 3 ATX AM4 Motherboard

Is the 1600X worth it over the 1600?

lilaznviper 08-01-2017 01:40 PM

the gigabtye and asus boards seems to not have the issue with the booting so those might be a safer bet to go with

Depends on what your doing with the computer the 1600x might not be worth the money

New to the whole M.2 storage thing and was interested in purchasing one, my motherboard is a z97i MSI Gaming ACK and read that the M.2 slot is "1 x 2260 Key M(PCIe Gen2 x2/SATA on back side)."

I'm guessing it has to be in the 2260 form factor with a Key M slot and PCIe 2.0x2 interface, but I can't find any for sale. Any recommendations for a M.2 for my motherboard

Razor Ramon HG 08-02-2017 06:32 PM

I don't think 2260 was ever that common. It's probably not worth the hassle of finding one and sourcing it.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00KLTPT6A

That's the only one I can find, and even then, it's not really a good deal at $154 for 256GB.

I bought a Crucial MX300 512GB M.2 2280 for $180 like half a year ago (albeit NAND prices have went up since) and it's now $197.

twitchyzero 08-02-2017 07:20 PM

a pcie adapter will do the trick most likely

edit: actually M-key probably means the common 2280 m.2 will fit the slot, just that the mounting holes won't align

He has an mITX motherboard, so no other PCI-E slots will be available if he's using a video card.

Can't use an adapter either to convert 2280 to 2260.

ButterFingers 08-02-2017 07:24 PM

Is there a possibility that I could make a metal piece screw adapter from the 2260 screw hole and extend to fit a 2280 card?

The M.2 slot is located on the back side:

Would there be any interference with anything?

lilaznviper 08-02-2017 07:32 PM

2260 was not very common and i believe only went up to 256gb.

you can probably find something on ebay for converter but as suggested its probably a waste of money. better off going regular ssd

ButterFingers 08-02-2017 07:38 PM

Edit: Nvm, seems like they only support pcie 1.0, guess I'll go towards an SSD

twitchyzero 08-02-2017 08:25 PM

i'm surprised m.2 was already a thing during z97 platform
and shows you how much I know about itx...the slot on the back of a mobo is cool but probably such a PITA when you want to swap out a drive

ButterFingers 08-02-2017 08:34 PM

Haha, yea, I was planning on purchasing a Lian Li PC-TU100B soon, and wanted to create as much room as possible in the case.

Was planning to mod the case setup similar to this build:

Anyone using the Logitech g403 or the newer g703? Looking into a wireless mouse now. The fk1 is a pain in the ass. Disconnects and reconnects occasionally. And I hear the delay in wireless mice now is essentially negligible.

twitchyzero 08-03-2017 06:06 AM

g'damn...i want that pelican case

asian_XL 08-03-2017 06:38 AM

that's crazy

iwantaskyline 08-08-2017 08:34 AM

Anyone here have the Asus VG248QE? For the past month it constantly won't turn on at all until I powercycle it (unplug the power for 1 min at least). Bad powercable?

twitchyzero 08-08-2017 08:43 AM

you can almost always rule out the cable dying
panelmaker AU Optronics doesn't have the best track record...time for display shopping

Looking to replace an old 1TB (Seagate) HDD with something in the 3 - 4TB range for data storage (Yeah, the pr0n collection needs to grow  ). Given the cost constraints, the best candidates seem to be:

- Seagate Barracuda
- Toshiba DT01ACA series

Is there any reason to pick one over the other?

Also, the Seagate Ironwolf is only $10 more than the Barracuda version, but I am not running the drive in an NAS. Is there any reason to choose the NAS drive over the regular desktop version?

threezero 08-08-2017 11:15 AM

Guys how does my build look?

I can't decide between i5 or the ryzen...went with intel cause back in the days all i trusted was intel. But the more threads on the ryzen is tempting...

CPU - Intel Core i5-7600 Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.5 GHz

MOTHERBOARD - MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON LGA 1151 Intel Z270 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX

COOLER - Hyper 212 LED with PWM Fan, Four Direct Contact Heatpipes

RAM - G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400

CASE - MasterBox Lite 5 ATX Mid-Tower Case with DarkMirror Front Panel

WIFI ADAPTER - Rosewill RNX-AC1300PCE Wi-Fi Adapter

PSU - Rosewill ARC Series 550W Modular Gaming Power Supply

HDD - WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch

SDD - SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-75E250B/AM

With a copy of Windows 10 Pro comes to approx $1300 before tax. Are these parts good? Should i really just ditch intel and go amd?

I dont plan to stream while gaming but.. who knows lol

7200rpm drive saves you a bit of time when moving large files or you need to access something quick as the slower drives will generally require spin-up on default
i would get whatever is cheapest...just make sure you back-up what you can't afford to lose

asian_XL 08-08-2017 07:37 PM

There is no best PC out there, so I spent most of the money on monitor, kb, mouse, speakers.

twitchyzero 08-08-2017 07:56 PM

SeemsGood the OCD in me likes the way you've placed your desktop icons

Mr.Money 08-08-2017 07:59 PM

as much as you wanna go I5 have you saw reviews of the Ryzen vs i5?...it's pretty even gaming while the more cores on the Ryzen 5 are 30% usage during gaming and i5 is maxed 100% processor usage in the same game compared to each other.....i think the AMD will be more future proof and its barely being pushed with current games.

that was kinda my reason for going ryzen as much as the perfectionist in me hated the idea of matching amd with Nvidia....it's not a real issue at all.
