Not sure if I want to go down that rabbit hole..... lol!
Is it really such a hugh difference?
Plus I think I’ll need a 1080 Ti for 1440p @ 144hz, no?

i wouldn't consider your computer setup a gaming computer unless you a have 144hz monitor in front of you

(serious)

you have a GTX 1080 but using a 60hz? this shows you have a small understanding for gaming, buy one now !! :fullofwin:

if you play first person shooters like overwatch,cs go...pubg it will benefit you,its noticeably smoother and doesn't feel so blocky with 144hz....i def wouldn't skip it!

I've played with 144HZ monitors and unless you have excess cash to burn or play competitively, it's a completely optional upgrade.

I use a GTX 1060 to play PUBG and CS:GO. I get constant 60 FPS at 1080p.

It will cost a lot more to get the equivalent experience to maintain 144 FPS at 1440p. A decent monitor and 1080TI will cost you well over $1500, which is equivalent to a higher mid-range desktop.

You could get a 1080p 144HZ monitor though, which is think is a fair compromise, although others may disagree.

But aside from money, I think the other question you have to ask yourself is if you can live with your other devices after using a 144HZ monitor. There's an adjustment period, and practically every other mobile device on the market still uses 60HZ screens aside from the new iPad Pros that use 120HZ.

Are any of the 144 Hz monitors using an 8 bits or 10 bits per pixel IPS? If you need accurate colour reproduction, that would also make a difference as to whether you stick w/ 60 Hz or go to 144 Hz.

twitchyzero 09-24-2017 09:00 PM

the upcoming 200hz ultrawides from asus and acer were supposed to have quantum dots but AU Optronics scrapped that spec for production...silly because they'll be priced similarly to an OLED

you don't really need to hit 144fps if the monitor has freesync/g-sync...and even if it doesn't one should consider keeping some futureproofing buffer in a monitor purchase as it's less likely to see upgrades as components

the variable refresh on the latest ipad pro is heaven-sent for mobile

1080 runs 1440p pretty good but on most games max settings you prob will only get around 100ish FPS.

thats why I wanna sell my 1080 and get the 1080TI lol its the best choice if you got a 144hz monitor and wanna do 1440p

joquio 09-25-2017 12:19 AM

The thing is I don't think I have the attention span to play any games competitive any more. Used to play a lot of competitive CS long long time ago.
Besides, I have way too many backlog games on all the different to catch up to. lol
Currently I just started to play PUBG.

I'm more of a eye candy guy so I like to play games on ultra high settings if possible. I bet playing 144hz might be one of those things like "once seen you can't unsee" so I've been trying my best to avoid it as I value 1440p and higher settings over higher fps/refresh rate anyway.

Only reason to put together a new computer is that the last system I build was 5 or 6 years ago. It just feels weird to not have upgraded to such a long period of time. When I was younger it used to be you need to upgrade every year or two in order to play the latest games.

I've got a Razer Blade Stealth and I just picked up cheap Razer Core. I've been out of touch with the world of the PC building for a while since my last build in 2011 and I'm looking to hop right into PUBG with the most budget friendly card possible for $200-$250-- I'm leaning towards a 1050 ti or a 970.

Thoughts?

I play on a 750 non ti and just came in third. A 1050TI would be a good card for pubg with low to medium settings.

Verdasco 09-25-2017 10:08 AM

a gtx 1050 is a pretty horrible card

over priced and less frames, get a used gtx 970 or those rx 480/470

Mr.Money 09-25-2017 09:10 PM

decent price for 1080 or nah

twitchyzero 09-26-2017 08:50 AM

even though the 1070 ti is imminent

Here's how the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti might stack up against other Pascal cards | PC Gamer

I would jump on that knowing graphics card pricing are about to shoot up even more due to memory shortage

I'm now debating between a 970 for $250, a 980 for $300 or just jumping to a new 1060 for $50 more.

...it's so hard to stay on budget when the jump to the next step is relatively cheap

Was contemplating on the same cards, ended up getting a used 1060 6gb for 275$ XD. Had to go for the card with more VRAM

Thats a damn good price!! Everything I'm seeing for the 1060 6GB is almost $100 more than what you've paid, and it's way out of my budget.

I'm about to settle with the 980. With the CPU bottleneck my dual core Razer Blade Stealth, I don't think it would be wise to invest in a better card.

What's the cheapest way to get 5.1 sound out of a desktop that only has 2.0? I don't need amazing quality I just want the rest of my speakers to work without having to do too much tricking Windows.

will be replacing my 9 years worn kb/m...but they don't exactly make claw grip mouses anymore

plug: have MSI 1080 Ti Aero if anyone's looking

Mr.Money 10-03-2017 09:29 PM

the grip is lovely designed...thumb & pinky on each side of the mouse has rubber grip, that's diamond imprinted for more feel....Wheel mouse has spiked grip also...

i'm able to do cs go - awp close shots...and when they try jumping shots at me i'm easily able to snipe them mid air...

$70 price matched at bestbuy well spent
