what kind of gaming keyboard would you guys recommend? haven't really looked into any yet.

if I could sell my corsair keyboard, I would get the razer blackwidow chroma v2.

although corsair keyboards feel and perform well, the software is trash (corsair utility engine)

Mr.Money 10-04-2017 12:26 PM

own the v1 of that keyboard i paid a whole $120 at the source, damn nice keyboard coming from a gaming laptop that had membrane keyboard, more feedback feeling but some find the clicky noise anoyying..meh...its a good keyboard with user LED customized scripts to make it look like its raining lighting on ur KB.

It seems like NCIX is probably going to fold within the next couple of months. They've since laid off a lot of employees, closed down their Ontario stores, left leases early, and supposedly are behind payments for workers and vendors.

I remember building my first computer there with Ch28. Saved up like a year of part-time babysitting for it (costed me around $1500). I remember it had an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ that was a complete beast.

Once NCIX goes, where else can I get computer parts in Burnaby? :okay:

Traum 10-04-2017 11:16 PM

I always find it at least a bit sad to see a long time business fold -- I'm dating myself here, but I think my first purchase with NCIX must have been from 20+ years ago when they were still a tiny, tiny shop on Kingsway. But in NCIX's case, I've heard enough stories / rumours to suggest that it is really quite amazing they haven't went under earlier.

As a consumer, I wonder what kind of impact this will have on our purchases. We will probably end up paying a bit more for our computer-related stuff, right? Most of the time, NCIX seems to be the cheaper / cheapest retailer out there.

lilaznviper 10-04-2017 11:28 PM

I talked with some distributors I work with for computer hardware and most said ncix ain't paying their bills on time.

I think the issue is that they opened so many stores and having so much high end products on display. their money is mostly sitting on display and not selling. now that they virtually have no stock on anything and everything is backed order until you pay for the product and get it 3 weeks later.

remember the days that their shop on burnaby was bare and just people came to order their product and leave after.

Mr.Money 10-04-2017 11:31 PM

interesting...i heard a lot of people stopped ordering completely on facebook reviews because there order would sit there weeks after saying after in-stock & credit card already charged..

lol the issue has nothing to do with products on display (they are worth peanuts compared to warehouse stock), it is about the leader and management which is fcking awful. They open so many stores for some reason (online > real life orders nowadays) Their support is complete dog shit compared to 10 years ago. It was awesome to hop onto ncix forums and actually talk to employees everyday, it was bumping and helpful! Now it is down the drain!! They fired a lot of people in their media youtube group. Linus made NCIX tech tips from the ground up. I can see why he wanted to have his own company, he marketed himself well enough to leave shitty NCIX.

They are losing to their competitors and that is the hard truth. Newegg.ca has way better deals when it has sales.... amazon as well!

NCIX has a lot of jacked up price bullsh1t and their "sale" is never a fcking sale those greedy fucks

im glad they are done with! Their employees are dumbasses as well, pure ass hats dorks who never gives customer service. They remind me of introverted geeks that are useless (other than typing in the purchase amount on the pin pad). Legit USELESS idiots with ZERO knowledge of anything

edit: ncix 10 years ago had it right!

Sales on wednesdays at 7pm had the best deals from all the sites in Canada

Razor Ramon HG 10-05-2017 12:39 AM

Yeah, I remember NCIX sales on Wednesday were actually something to look forward to. Redflagdeals used to have a weekly thread under Hot Deals, and then it just eventually got to the point where uploading one would get you instantly flamed.

I can't say I've had any negative experiences with NCIX.. I tend to only purchase items in-stock either from the warehouse or available in-stock at the Burnaby store, so the back order and special order horror stories have never applied to me.

Just sucks that if I want to price match anything, I'll now have to go all the way to Richmond to Memory Express.

twitchyzero 10-05-2017 07:31 AM

sad a local mom and pops is done
but sounds like it was a long time coming though...service is about as good as a local asian restaurant and prices have been awful...my last purchase was 2 years ago
would be hilarious if they fold before their old foe ATIC...how is that thing still alive! it's like being trapped in windows 95 the last time i was there

underscore 10-05-2017 09:01 AM

I've mostly had good experiences with NCIX, one bad one but it wasn't fully their fault. I've had much worse experiences with NewEgg, Memory Express and Tiger Direct (TD being the worst of all) so I'd be sad to see NCIX go.

STRAFE RGB - REAL MECH OR NOTHING

corsair strafe rgb cherry mx

one thing I hated with ncix was the time it took from order online to order pick up confirmation even if they had the item in stock at the store , it took forever

urrh 10-05-2017 11:20 AM

i stopped looking at ncix sales after they put their entire catalog onto the "sales" page.

Mr.Money 10-05-2017 09:43 PM

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XKWT7GD/

amd ryzen 5 1600x for $250 seems decent,no cooler though.

Jmac 10-05-2017 10:18 PM

Used to use NCIX exclusively until around 2012-ish. Been using Newegg mostly for the past 5 years (not that I've bought a lot compares to my 20s)

NCIX service and prices just aren't as competitive as they once were.

Vansterdam 10-06-2017 07:27 AM

whats the best 1080 Ti card/deal right now?

eyeing the asus rog-strix 1708 MHz or the MSI gaming X

twitchyzero 10-06-2017 02:21 PM

can't speak for the rest of pascal but this gen seems to be silicon lottery
basically the Founders Ed. have the same boosting headroom as the top-end custom cards unless you dive into shunt mods and extreme cooling

Looking for a gaming laptop. Any suggestions?

Plan on running games like PUBG and maybe Destiny and Star wars Battlefront.

Thanks in advance

Mr.Money 10-13-2017 12:17 PM

^^^ any laptop with a 1070 gtx would future proof you more.......6gb 1060 gtx would do but heats up like hell on stressful games like pubg, like desktop verison was maxing out the gpu fan during gameplay.

i wouldn't bother with 32gb ram laptops though,16gb is such a sweet spot unless you do CAD on your laptop that'll take a whole shit load of ram memory.

also the more fancy gaming laptops have 120hz display....i'd get one of those since the difference is huge in smoothness compared to 60hz imo

new system wont boot NVMe via UEFI...am I handicapping it by booting it in Legacy mode (and formated as a MBR drive) if I don't care about boot times?

To clarify, you have an OS installed on the drive, but the system isn't booting into it?

Is the drive the only storage drive on the system?

Are you able to boot with a recovery disk and see the OS or storage device?

Mr.Money 10-15-2017 06:30 AM

i think ncix is shuting down....who the fuck doesn't keep any 1070 gtx laptops in-stock?,nobody is going to wait 3 weeks for they're new computer :fuckthatshit:
https://www.ncix.com/category/gaming...-1323-2294.htm

but this MSI looks nice in the right specs....16gb ram,1070 gtx,120hz display, 256gb ssd and 1tb harddrive for data...2tb upgrade would last waay longer though for all your music, movie needs.

even without other drives they system can't detect it...even after a clean install...even after bios update

it's weird because Windows Disk Mgmt lists it as GPT but not so under DISKPART

anyways, the drive is still seeing a blistering 3100MB/s read & 1950MB/s write, trim enabled and will have frequent back-ups so I'm not too concerned. Just sucks that secure boot can't be enabled.

edit: somewhat related, the Samsung 970/980 is previewed as the OEM TLC with 64-bit layer are now available...the 1TB model writes 25% faster and going for $550

1) download drivers for your OS to USB, unzip the driver file onto the usb. It should have a .ini file in it.
2) Boot using OS disk. Im assuming windows.
3) If windows disk doesn't see the drive, point the installation to the USB with the drive drivers. It should see the drive then.
4) Prance and dance around the room with joy.
