can any of those recommendations fit full-size card and a cpu 120mm rad?

my new system is TG...pain the ass to build, worse air flow, but holy shit does it look amazing

I think I would want TG for the htpc as well

the Swift is kinda dealbreaker because it's too fat to fit in my HT cabinet...want something within 6"

Razor Ramon HG 11-20-2017 09:29 PM

If you want a HTPC style case and are putting in a radiator, I'd go with the Core 500. I had it before and it was a very good case.

I'd personally skip the AIO though. Get a topflow cooler like the Phanteks PH-TC12LS and undervolt the CPU (assuming you have a Z-series motherboard). This combo worked for me and I don't think my 6700K ever hit 70 degrees outside of stability tests.

You can also use a tower cooler if you like, but then you lose out on the top two fan mounts.

If you go this route, an optional recommendation would be to get a SFX power supply. The case is still small, and SFX power supplies come with shorter cables and the unit itself is also smaller giving you extra space. Make sure it comes with a SFX-ATX bracket. Corsair units don't come with one, but Silverstone ones do.

Looking to build a really basic entry level computer for my cousins kid. Most likely going to be playing Minecraft so I think onboard video card is ok for the games he wants to play. And also he just wants to get him used to a computer (mostly just iPad right now). Trying to get it ~$450-$500

Why did you not go with the 8GB version for the RX580? There is not a big difference in price. I have even seen some 4 GB models that cost more than the 8GB model.

Also you can make over $40 month after power costs mining with that card.

jcmaz 11-26-2017 08:27 AM

^ Sounds like it's a prebuilt unit. I would be wary about the PSU

yah its a prebuilt unit... for $789.99 it was a steal for the configuration.

ordered it friday evening from amazon.ca, had it delivered FREE sunday afternoon.. finished setting it up and will run it through some basic gaming tests like WOW at full settings.

I was desperate to replace this aging and dying Toshiba Qosmio i7 (check out my ghetto cooling solution cuz this laptop gets hot hot hot)

Newegg had an RX580 4GB for $270 last week. Haven't seen any 8GB versions even close to that.

$270 is a great price. The cheapest I have seen the 8 GB model is $339. Later the price went to $349 but came with Quake champions game. You could sell the game and get some money back.

Acura604 11-28-2017 09:09 AM

**just did a test on my new PC (see above)

1. hooked up the 28" 4K monitor via DisplayPort cable
2. installed WoW Legion on usb 3.0 thumb drive (250gig SSD coming soon)
3. ran WoW off the thumb drive connected to a USB 3.0 port
4. MAXED out ALL settings on WoW - all the way to 10
5. averaged about 50 FPS. smooth no chop.
6. CPU temps rose from approx 42 C to around 65 C

on weekend I will test some more demanding games.

sorry for ghetto video:
