My new LG 34UM60-P 34" monitor came in the mail. Got it off the Buydig sale on eBay. Paid $360 after shipping and duties and I'm loving it so far.
It's only 2560x1080, but I can't really tell a difference compared to the Dell U3415W I use at work with 150% scaling.
This replaces my LG 24MP88HV-S 24". I'll miss them non-existent bezels.

The fan on my CX600M PSU is making weird ass noises and probably needs to be replaced. Don't really want to hack it apart so a replacement is needed. Been a few years since I've looked at components but I paid $60 new for this PSU in late 2014. Can anyone recommend me a suitable replacement? Nothing fancy on my computer. I5-4690K (non OC'd lol), 16GB DDR3, R9 280, 1 SSD and 2 storage drives.

The 2017 Corsair CX power supplies are supposedly a lot better than the old ones. They now also come with fully black cables and have a five year warranty instead of three.
So with that said, the Corsair CX550 is my recommendation if you're on a tight budget. It's $76 on Amazon at the moment.
If you don't spending a bit more, I'd go with the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550W. It's $105 on Newegg, but can be picked up at their Richmond depot. Ten years of warranty, but Seasonic power supplies are top tier and should last you multiple builds.

I've got a good powerful desktop...but looking to complement it with a gaming
laptop.
thoughts on this build... my concern is its a DELL and the reviews are average...with
sticking points like shitty hinges to overall build quality. Some say DELL quality has gone to the shitter as they try to stay competitive but compromising on their quality.
Priced at $899. https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68195

their new designs can often come with stupid oversights, but their revised models are great
never had build quality issues on their products (aside from monitor uniformity but that's more the supplier's fault)
Microsoft, Apple, Huawei etc all come out of the same factory so I wouldn't worry about the build quality...it comes down to the design...memory express has decent return policy

A few years back I helped my nephew build a gaming computer. The drive in it is 250gb ssd and it's now full. Should he just get another 250gb SSD or go for a 1TD mechanical spinning drive. Main use storing games.

you could get either one.
however if you want to save money you can get the HDD and transfer over the mostly played games over to the SSD for quicker boots and loads

Personally, I'd upgrade him to a 500-ish GB SSD, and also get him some sort of high capacity regular HDD. You really don't want to put too much stuff in an SSD for a whole slew of reasons.
And also, I'd advise him to only put a few of the most frequently played / highest read/write activity games on the SSD. The rest can stay on the slow spinny drive.

I've got a 1TB 7200rpm mechanical drive for most games, and a 120GB drive for the few that actually make use of a bit more speed.

500gb ssd, given that individual games can be 70GB easily these days
sell, keep or pass down the existing 250GB

Since the case he has is a NZXT 340 and it has 2 2.5 inch drive slots up front I think he should go with this one. https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...82E16822145875 It's 7200 RPM and $40 off right now.

ultra wide if you have the desk space.....i saw a few video games support ultra wide and including PUBG....it's pretty much a huge advantage to see movement in the corner of you're eye and boom, take'em out.
i'd rock one but i have limited space....so just a 24'' 144hz monitor for now and another 22'' for extra work space of youtube and folders, movies.

This weekend i'll be wiping and doing a fresh install of win10. (too much bloat)
I also got a coolermaster notepal underneath it to keep airflow going into the unit.
CORE TEMPs app showed around 36-45 deg C idle.
I won't be installing any games on it until i get a SSD. It has an empty slot for
a m.2 SSD so you dont have to lose the 1tb 5400rpm drive.
i did run WoW from a usb stick / usb 3.0 - and at 2 notches above mid settings, it ran smooth around 50FPS. i didn't notice anything unsually noisy in terms of fans kicking in. HOWEVER, keep in mind that the blizzard updater was running in the background as well as a huge win10 update.. temps did reach up to 75 deg C while in WOW....but that could be attributed to all the stuff running in the background as well. .i will test it further this week.
Games to be installed are:
- world of warcraft on USB stick
- diablo 3 on USB stick
- PUBG on hdd
the unit has 2 videocards built in...the 4gig 1050 as well as an intel onboard...the 1050 only kicks in as needed for gaming, etc. otherwise the unit stays very quiet in regular browser mode running off the onboard video/intel 430 i think it was.
Not too sure about the screen...viewing is compromised unless you look at it directly.
IF i decide to keep it i will double the mem from the 8gigs to 16gigs. unit comes with 2 slots with 1 slot occupied with the 8gig module.
more to add to this post as I test it further.,,,
NOTE: BESTBUY sale price ends tomorrow. Mar 1. $849.99
