Looking at building a 100% dedicated streaming machine and was wondering if this would be good enough:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($238.95 @ Vuugo)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($36.50 @ Vuugo)
Motherboard: Asus - PRIME A320M-K Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($74.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($119.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($107.98 @ Amazon Canada)
Case: Rosewill - SRM-01 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($39.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Power Supply: Corsair - CXM (2015) 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($65.99 @ PC-Canada)
Total: $684.39
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-04-02 18:58 EDT-0400

Right now it's still just pre-recorded videos that I need to be streaming but needs to be at 1080p with hopefully no issues. Still getting hiccups on my gaming PC but not too sure where the issue is and would rather just build something completely dedicated.

Only thing I'll ever run is OBS and Chrome on this machine.

What GPU are you going to be running because the ryzen 5 does not have integrated graphics.

I have heard the rumors for years but it looks like apple is actually going to build there own CPU's. Seems really stupid to me. Probable run an Arm chip.

I hope they do it right. I hate Intel too at times. So many manufacturers are at their mercy when it comes to product updates and AMD is still in the middle of getting their Ryzen mobile chips out.

twitchyzero 04-02-2018 11:00 PM

apple already built its own GPU which afaik is more complex than a CPU

I think the biggest problem is that only Intel and AMD are allowed to use x86.

If Apple wants to build a CPU, they'll be using ARM and that's going to cause a lot of compatibility issues for everything short of what's on iOS.

I guess we'll find out in due time.

Hmm this might actually give me a good reason to just upgrade my gaming comp as well :P. I'll grab the 770 from it and maybe upgrade to a 1070 or 1080. Although this would be a bit above our budget for the streaming computer lol.

Maybe they'll do what they did when they moved from PowerPC to Intel. They maintained BC for a little while with Rosetta, and then went full Intel after 10.6.8.

Jmac 04-03-2018 12:36 PM

Ryzen 5 2400g (~$200) has integrated graphics but finding a motherboard that supports it out of the box is hit or miss.

twitchyzero 04-03-2018 01:51 PM

oh wow didn't realize vanilla Ryzen had no iGPU...thought it was only on the Threadripper line

what kinda graphic horsepower do you need to stream? if new should just get a rx 550/gtx 1050 and call it a day...anything else is insanity right now

Manic! 04-03-2018 02:04 PM

If the video being streamed is in the right format any computer will do because it takes next to no prepossessing power to upload a file.

Razor Ramon HG 04-05-2018 01:18 PM

Anyone got a RX 580 8GB they wanna trade for a 1070 + some cash?

underscore 04-05-2018 04:55 PM

I'm trying to help a coworker with their laptop but it's got me in a bind. It's a Dell Inspiron 7737, Windows 8.1, i7-4500u, onboard graphics and a GT750M. When trying to run Sims 4 it complains that the graphics driver is out of date and refuses to run the game, but if I update the driver with the latest from Nvidia (either through device managers auto-update or finding it manually) it'll run perfectly until I reboot and then it throws a blue screen with "UNEXPECTED_KERNAL_MODE_TRAP"

If nothing else can I fudge the driver version somewhere so that the stupid game will run?

twitchyzero 04-05-2018 08:30 PM

see if there's a way to disable the iGPU when you're using the NVidia chip

did you check perform clean installation under NVidia's install process?
or reinstall under windows safe mode

anyone have a cheap card with DisplayPort that outputs 4K60? HD 7750, GTX 750 etc...not gaming with it

underscore 04-06-2018 01:42 PM

I can pick which GPU is used by a program, it just complains that the drivers are out of date when I pick the dedicated one. I picked clean install, and unchecked all the options except the video driver and it still crashes on boot. Safe mode works fine, installing it while in safe mode doesn't seem to help as it reboots before finishing the install, reboots again, and then bricks.

You want to give someone a 1070 and cash for a 580?

Whoops, meant a 580 + cash for my 1070.

NVIDIA doesn't play well with eGPUs on High Sierra :okay:

eclipseman 04-06-2018 04:00 PM

I'm quite the rookie on graphics cards.

Haven't updated my card for 9 years. I'm running a GTX 275. What's an above average card to get at the moment under $200.

Looking at CL, there's a GTX 770 for $150. Is that decent? To run say, Fortnite? Or should I get a 1050 Ti instead.

Any help would be appreciated. For what it's worth, this will be a temporary card until I upgrade my desktop in a couple years.

Razor Ramon HG 04-06-2018 04:29 PM

1050TI if brand new, 970 if used.

Haven't been following on CPUs...since 2011

I am still using old i7 2600K from 2011
Not really into much of gaming. I only do SC2.
But recently, i have tried Wii U emulator...Zelda BOTW. I only got 25-35 fps (4k res).
35-45 (2k res)
This emulator doesn't fully utilize GPU power. GPU was only around 60%, CPU was at 99%

If i upgrade to 7700K, will i see big difference ?
Or should i just upgrade to 8700K ?
From review, I see 8700K has significant performance gain.

Please, educate me a little.

Apppppreciate it!!!!!!

Yeah, you're CPU bound right now.

You'll see a big difference upgrading to something like an 8700K, but you'll also have to swap out your motherboard and RAM at the same time.

If you're doing this just for BOTW, you're probably better off buying a Switch + BOTW off Craigslist and reselling it when you're done for minimal loss.

I do have NS. I bought BOTW for my wife....so, she will get distracted from buying cosmetics...lol
I saw her played the game. Its probably one of the best NS game so far.

Then, I saw Wii U CEMU on youtube, it got me all started.
I used to be a big fan on emulator stuff long time ago.
So, i tried it with 4k res on 4K projector. It really works.

My wife saw it. And asked me, "Why did you buy another NS ?"
I said, its playing off our Media PC.

4K res plus all the gfx packs.
The graphics just breath taking.

But fps is not upto what i want.

I might really have to pull the trigger upgrade the system.
Looking for mobo with Z370 chipset for the coffee lake.
But, don't know which brand is good. I used to buy Asus all the time.

And now, even Asrock have gaming mobo...I was like "what !?"
Asrock gaming broad is not cheap too.

DDR4 Ram is also so friggin expensive too now. Ouch...

Whats the most popular Z370 gaming board out there ??
