I'm probably just going to get an i3-8100 and a Z370 for my new build and wait for the i7-8700K to come down in prices.

| Intel i9-9900K comparisons show just 12 percent increase over AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X https://www.kitguru.net/components/c...ryzen-7-2700x/
would kinda have a kickass budget build with ryzen 2700x & 2080 ti.

My recommendations - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/9t2Ljy
$20-30 more, but you jump from 6C/6T to 6C/12T with a better motherboard, better RAM, and a better power supply.
I don't think the Ryzen 5 2600 will go lower than the $199 by much if any at all and the price is so attractive that I'd get it at the price it is now. The other parts you can wait for Black Friday.

What would you guys recommend for different storage devices?
Would it be more efficient to put my windows OS and essential programs on a 250G m.2 nvme. Then put games on a 1tb ssd and get a 6Tb HDD for photos and movies?

Have a second 8 TD external that I can use to back everything up and move a different location.

The 500GB versions aren't that much more expensive, and they tend to have higher performance for a number of reasons.

>1K = more than 1K.
<1K = less than 1K.
Semantics aside, here's a build that comes in at the limit, and should have longevity. The Ryzen 5 2600 comes with the Wraith Stealth cooler which is pretty decent, and I have an older 750W PSU that I am willing to contribute to the build if your nephew wants. Otherwise, an EVGA 500B is $44.99 ( https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/...ly-100b10500kr)

I did the same about 4 years back with one of my nephews. We built it together. This year I'm getting him another SSD for his system. roastpuff's system looks good but remember he will also need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and what about wifi? For a keyboard and mouse combo look at the cooler master devastator 3, it's $43 dollars and has RGB!!!
You could save some money buy going with 8 gigs of ram and I would wait for black friday.

Maybe a dumb question, but why get a mini-ITX card to go in an ATX case? I'm assuming a standard sized card would be cheaper than a compact one.

At $336, better off getting the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 for $355 from Newegg since it comes with Assassin's Creed Odyssey and a few other games. https://m.newegg.ca/products/N82E16814202280
Best afternarket RX 580 on the market.

Best afternarket RX 580 on the market. | 1060 6GB has better Fortnite performance.
Yeah, forgot to ask about monitor, keyboard, mouse and stuff. I have an old monitor if he is interested as well... nothing special, just a 24" unit.
EDIT: Wifi?? WIFI??? Desktops should be wired in!

However, when I first did it, it was also because of necessity, as consumer grade WiFi wasn't available. (Great... now I have just dated myself...) It was a major PITA to route a wire through rooms, hallways, and walls. With WiFi adapters as cheap and convenient as it is now, there is certainly a lot of reasons to go with that.
(But then it also becomes a matter of having too many WiFi devices competing for the same access points, and that introduces a whole slew of other issues...) |

Yea the nephew plays fortnite and I will be waiting for black Friday. His dad and mom seperated and he's a spoiled little shit. But I wanted to do something good for him with all the shit that's been going on. And being a 14 year old, doing this would be alot better than other trouble he could potentially find himself in. So @roastpuff thanks for the offer of used parts for his very first build. (and for anyone else with anything he could use) I already bought a desk for him.... Need to put that bitch together for him also.... Fuck his dad... #familyfirst

The think about ram it's easy to add more down the road. same cannot be said for the CPU or GPU.
