Main use is for school, perhaps some light gaming CS/Lol. Leaning on Acer currently since the integrated GPU is way better on the ryzen than intel, but any personal experiences with either brands would be nice. Still waiting for tigerdirect and memoryexpress since they don't have any flyer previews.

Dell useing last gen CPU. Current gen is about 20% faster. Both using mechanical hard drives. I have seen an Acer and HP laptop with current gen I5's and 256 GB SSD's for $600 on sale. Keep checking RFD for a deal.

I'd just pick up a Samsung Evo 860 SSD at either 500GB or 1TB during the BF pricing, swap the drive in myself, and re-install Windows. This way, you get a fast SSD with a clean OS install, meaning you don't have to put up with any of the bloated crapware that comes pre-installed on the factory image.

What is a good gaming mouse you guys would recommend?

I need good wireless battery life for when watching tv, but also good gaming characteristics when wired in

For something that's wireless+wired I'd go with the Razer mamba. Use it wired for gaming and u can also use it wirelessly

If any of you are on Shaw Internet 150 or 300, reset your modem and you'll get double the download speed now.

It looks like Shaw didn't change the 150 / 300 (now 300 / 600) plans upload speeds.

Tegra_Devil 12-03-2018 07:39 AM

Does upload speed really Matter these days?

Mr.Money 12-03-2018 08:31 AM

^^^..unless you're twitch streaming,i wouldn't care much about upload speeds unless your work needs it.

does Shaw have anything more stable than the crappy Hitron gateways for the 150? I still get disconnects as frequent as every 15 minute and they've replaced the unit with the same thing...this was a year ago

Why would it not? Granted not everyone uses these things but I use a VPN for work and have cloud storage so upload speed is pretty important.

Razor Ramon HG 12-03-2018 11:49 AM

My internet slows to a crawl whenever I upload a decent sized file to the cloud. That's where Telus wins with the mostly symmetrical upload speed.

I'm sure this isn't your issue, but just in case try changing your cable. I had something similar with Urbanfiber here in Coquitlam, and changing the cable did the trick to get the full gigabit speed up and down.
