Gsync has to be on the way out, now that Nvidia cards finally support Freesync. There's no longer reason for monitors to use the extra hardware.

I use it on the GTX 2060 with my Asus MG248Q and it works fine, despite not even being on Nvidia's official list. Turns out any monitor with adaptive refresh will likely work.

Speaking of which, I am selling it today, and will pick up a 27". I might have to stick with 1080p for budget reasons, but we'll see. I have to decide between 1080P and a VA panel, or 2K with a TN panel. I was really hoping to switch to VA, as I really don't like the look of colours on TN. I'll have to look at the monitors in store to see if 1080p on a 27" looks really bad. I sit about 50cm away from the monitor.

I'm guessing there will eventually be freesync versions of those Alienware models? Not in a big rush to upgrade so I don't mind waiting it out. I've never had a VA panel and I'm more comfortable with an IPS especially for work. I haven't used any new TN monitor so maybe things are different, but it was really hard staring at code for hours on end on one. I use the Dell ULTRASHARPS for everything but want a higher refresh again for gaming.

Definitely wouldn't want to use TN for anything other than gaming. It really is a trade off... I was willing to live with it for a long time, but my eyes are hating me now, for using it for everything else

IPS I don't think is fast enough for gaming. There may be new technology out there though. VA is usually the best tradeoff.

There has never been a reason to a get a TN monitor, except when IPS monitors first came onto the market and had absolutely horrible response times for gaming.

IPS monitors nowadays are basically indistinguishable from TN panels in terms of gaming, and people that say can tell the difference are just drinking the kool-aid.

I used to play CS:GO at SMFC level with a Dell Ultrasharp, but I use a Samsung monitor now with a VA panel.

Checked out some IPS monitors, but they are way too blurry in the price range I am looking in.. Maybe a $1000 Alienware would be acceptable.

I still wanted VA, so I settled for the ASUS XG27VQ. It still has a lot more ghosting than the TN MG258QR it replaces, but I will take that along with the wider colour gamut.

even stupid dash cams you can get ips touchscreens

i agree ips/va should be the minimum unless you're absolutely forced (ie. car audio head units)

but i'm also the type that's ok with 60hz...i care more about colours

Nah I don't think it makes sense to say there's "no reason to get TN". At the <$400 price range 1080p, if you care a lot about crispness of motion, no ghosting, etc, you will want to go TN. Or if you need 240 Hz. No you won't get the most accurate colours, but you won't get ghosting at all.

Already with this new monitor with its 4 ms response time, I can see ghosting even just moving the mouse around. I tried enabling the "overdrive" setting and that helps a bit, but you can't turn it up too high or it will add artifacts.

It has a strobe mode blur reduction in 120 Hz but then you lose adaptive sync. I will give that a try with different vsync settings to check it out though. It definitely looked sharper in the blurbusters test (not very bright though)

No monitor is perfect, it's all about getting the right one for you. And within your budget of course

Maybe considering getting two monitors. I have a 27inch IPS for color grading my photos and a 27in 120hz TN panel for gaming. It equals to about the same price as a 34in ultra wide IPS monitor.

I think ultra wide for FPS gaming is too much for me. Motion sickness.

I'm thinking of picking up this 27" https://www.amazon.ca/Asus-FreeSync-.../dp/B00ZOO348C as I think I'm going to be more productive when I have 2 monitors instead of 1 Ultrawide for now. Once I stop working from home I'll probably get an Ultrawide lol.

Any other alternatives to that Asus around that price range, i'll be able to expense a part of it at least through work.

That bright LED backlight ring around the edge drives me fucking crazy... This isn't even really bleed, just leakage all around the whole damn thing. I might try to RMA this. Unfortunately no such thing as return policy here, despite having to spend an extra $100 USD compared to buying in the US.

A similarly priced non gaming monitor would be so much better but still adaptive sync is so worth it.

Spent the last few days researching and trying to find better options for a 27" 144hz 1440p IPS and Nixeus EDG27s V2 seems to be the best one as it uses a relatively newer panel. It's not sold in Canada yet (or will be) unfortunately.

I think I'm just gonna go with a TN or VA panel that I'm mostly gonna use for gaming and keep my 2 monitors right now which are both IPS for work/photo editing.

Looking at that same 27" inch you got Skinny but I'm worried about the 1080p on 27". How's reading text and stuff in that resolution or have you just gamed on it?

Text on it is not that great TBH, but it's not like I think about it constantly while reading. You definitely notice it though.

I have an RMA set up for this monitor, for the bright light leakage around the edges. Hopefully I can get it replaced. Honestly I would have preferred if the store let me return it and spend more for a better monitor.

I would probably switch to one of the G-Sync ones, since Freesync doesn't work perfectly on GeForce cards yet. You can notice some flickering on transitions. I wouldn't even mind going back to TN, the quality and viewing angle on this Asus VA panel isn't spectacular. It's tough man, gaming monitors are kind of shitty, but if you want high refresh rate for a decent price, you have to give up quite a bit in other parts.

Think about what is most important to you, and decide based on that.

Yea I think that's why I've decided on the VA panel seems to be the middle ground. I also realized there are no 24" IPS with high refresh rates only 27"++

If I could find a more reasonably priced 1440p 144hz 27" IPS, I would've snagged one. But considering most are $900-$1000 I might as well get one of the better Ultrawides. Unfortunately, I don't have a system that can power them so I'm just gonna hold off.

Asus MG279Q is 144 Hz 1440p 27" IPS for around $500-600 in HK, so should be about $400-500 USD there. No idea what the quality is

$759 here but from what I've been reading it's not really a good choice these days. A lot of better options especially because the freesync range is only 35-90hz. The PG279Q is $899 and same with the Acer Predator version

The Acer Nitro VG271UP is only $550 but it's out of stock and there hasn't been any reviews since it was just released.

I think at this point I'm ok if text is passable as I'll probably use it for work as well but not as my main one although if I do get curved... it may have to sit in the middle of my desk. There's a few 27" 1440p that are VA as well that i'm looking into now

I conceded and I just went ahead and ordered the PG279Q. Did more reading about the VA panels and ghosting becomes apparent in FPS that I play.

I should have just ordered it in the first place instead of wasting so much time reading into how shitty the monitor market really is lol

So I ended up cancelling my PG279Q order and picking up the Gigabyte AD27QD.

I actually have the monitor now so no going back lol. Will set it up tonight or tomorrow and see how gaming on 144hz + IPS is. It's been a while!

In terms of monitor arms, I have a dual monitor arm right now.. not sure if it's worth getting a triple monitor arm or just another arm for the new monitor.

I'm looking to pick up a 500gb SSD. What's the difference between these 2 SSD?
https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX73518
STGS500401

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX75771
ZA500CM10002

I'm also considering this one:
https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68857
WD Blue

The 860 EVO seem to be the popular ones, but they cost a bit more.
I can see they're superior on paper, but how noticeable is it really on daily use?

I'll be using this SSD for my OS only.
