I'm also considering this one:

WD Blue

The 860 EVO seem to be the popular ones, but they cost a bit more.
I can see they're superior on paper, but how noticeable is it really on daily use?

I'll be using this SSD for my OS only.

Is this your main drive?

Check redflagdeals to see what's on sale. $100 seems to much for or a 500 gig SSD.

It will be my main drive, but only Windows will be on it. I have other drives for gaming, video editing, music, etc.

But with a bit more research, it was also suggested the Crucial MX500 is on par with the 860 EVO, but about $30-40 cheaper.

Are those prices really that bad for a 500gb? Seems like most sales have SSD's at around $90-100, with exception of really good sales like during Black Friday.

I bought the Crucial MX500 a few weeks before Christmas and it was $80.

I also recently bought a 2TB Intel NVME for my XPS 15 and that was just under $300. SSDs are a lot cheaper than they used to be.

bought a logitech g pro wireless for $180 on craigslist a couple days ago

i never like to shill certain products but holy shit... this mouse is the best mouse I have ever used. Period.

Tried the logitech g pro wired, g403, zowie FK1/2, rival, xai, deathadder, SS g110? and other mice

I can say this mouse has the best balanced weight (bit light), best size (medium), sensor is awesome, etc. etcc.

I think this mice actually made my aim better compared to the others.

For the price, i was skeptic, now i recommend to all

100% worth the investment for casual or serious gaming, if you are rich enough lol

Got an email from memory express. They closed the Richmond location because they could not reach a deal with their landlord.

Background: Early last year, the router mining in China crashed and all the mid to high-end routers were sold at dirt cheap price. Following this year the file coin mining didn't go so well, so all the 4-bay machines and HP servers price plunged sharply.

This particular model is now very popular in China, I just picked one up at CAD57. 4 bay, Intel J1900, 4GB ram, 16GB SSD (installed xpenology), 150w PSU. Not the most powerful, but good enough to be NAS. I am using Synology router and NAS already, so this can be a backup unit.

it comes with HDMI / VGA / USB3.0 / Gigalan port

sure there is some head room to upgrade in the future

I don't see the unit has been used before, built date was Jan 2019. The Zumax PSU only has 150w and doesn't seem to be very reliable.

I have been to the Richmond Memoryexpress many times and its so sad to see it close. It was my go to location when ordering from Memoryexpress. Easiest location to get to by skytrain.

Sounds like a cool home built NAS.
Are the drives hot swappable?

yup, they are.

The Chinese sellers will pre-install whatever OS you want, I ordered it with xpenology in there. I have several junk HDD, this will be a home for them.

I am still running DS111 at my parent's place, except it doesn't have DSM update anymore and file conversion is slow, when accessing it with your cell phone is still smooth and great

As a note, these use QLC. Yes, they are inexpensive, but the long term durability and performance are not as good as TLC/MLC/SLC.
They are great for non-OS drives.

Any recommendations on a router? Would like to replace aging apple airport router at work. Looking for something off the shelf as long as it will vastly improve our wifi situation. I was looking around at the "gaming" ones unless you guys have a better suggestion.

Good enough for OS drives too, IMO. Not as fast as say a 970 EVO but still pretty fast.

How big of an area are you covering? How many wired connections do you need? I like the Netgear Orbi ones as well, can ensure better coverage in the office. Netgear Nighthawk also always a solid choice.

I bought that back in Feb for about the same price. It's been in my XPS 15. Not as fast as a Samsung but it's still 3x faster than a SATA drive. Great price, I'd buy more if I needed them.

Now if only bigger drives were as cheap. I can start replacing the drives in my R720XD with SSDs

yup, using it strictly for my steam games only, ton of people on redflagdeals weren't recommending it because its max 400 TBW Endurance Rating (Lifetime Writes)

my Samsung 840 pro ssd sata 256gb from year 2012 i got on release day has only written 17.7tb out the 150TB life span from video game installs and photo editing currently today...i paid like $240 for it and i thought i was getting a deal back then

i'm sure as hell the intel 660p will last me a long time for my uses...anything like 4k video editing or even 1080p video editing might be a concern for so many data writing, game installs & updates i should be golden on this budget build.

https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/about

^^^ any of those models what fit your budget, this guy writes his own firmware and its being rock solid on my asus router for years,he does more security updates faster than what official comes out with thats a plus in my books.

Yeah, most people on Redflagdeals are picky retards.

But with that said, most drives these days have endurance ratings that will far outlive the drive's use case.

I have a Micron MX500 500GB that I've used for almost a year. It's only had 8TB written to it and it's rated for 180TB.

Can't see myself using this drive for another 5 years let alone the 22 years it will take me to hit 180TB at the current rate.

Oh wow, I just checked prices on 4TB SSDs, and their prices have gone way down since I last bought one @ $2k. Now, you can pick one up for under $800.

Tools

80mm to 92mm fan upgrade

the case has a really bad design to have 4HDD sitting on top of each other, temp goes up to 50-65deg. Drilled a 80mm hole to fit a fan there and all HDD are now under 35deg

Sticker bomb to cover up all the scratches
