Good idea on ditching the RGB. However if you're gonna use a big chonkin window, maybe stick a white LED in there ?

roastpuff 08-08-2019 07:57 AM

Needs some mood lighting. Not overboard, just a touch of illumination. Just like during fun times in the bedroom...

!Aznboi128 08-08-2019 08:14 AM

Damn, looking at the build makes me want to do something about my computer.

!LittleDragon 08-08-2019 12:28 PM

Now that the weather is cooler, the VCR is actually idling at 27c. Not too bad but it'll still ramp up to 90c though.

I have a 3800X I'll let go for $500, RS special price for anyone interested.

Just moved into my new place and started to setup my rigs:

Think i'm going to wall mount the monitors and switch it up.

underscore 08-11-2019 11:21 PM

Crap picture, but I'm digging the experience of triple monitors + NVidia Surround. It meant I then had to alt+tab to check guides which got annoying. Insert the old 14" laptop I use for traveling for maximum convenience. Having it in front of the center channel made it sound funny so it's offset until I sort out how to mount the speaker above the screen or something.

Going to be attempting my first build this weekend. Last system was built by a buddy almost ten years ago.

Manic! 08-17-2019 06:52 PM

Ordered some ram from Amazon. I thought it was 2x8GB but it's 1x16. Is that going to be a big problem when it comes to speed?

You lose out on dual channel with a single stick.

Older article, but still applies.

Picked up my 2070 Super... It's the MSI Ventus variant... Kinda loud but it's the only one that'll fit in the VCR. I even had to remove the bracket to get it to fit. It runs hot at about 80-85C but that's with me testing out Wolfenstein Youngblood at 4k60 at max settings. But that's not what I built this machine for. It was built for Kodi, Plex and to play Wii/Wii U/Switch games...

BOTW in 4k60 is amazing.

My EVGA 2060 XC Ultra is pretty quiet. Even quieter with a power limit set to 65%. Haven't noticed too much of a performance hit in my games.

Mr.Money 08-25-2019 02:29 AM

was wondering why everyone was picking up 2070 Super over 2080 super..

apparently its only 15% better the 2080,yet you're dropping more $$$ :seriously:
i don't know who would notice that, besides making your wallet lighter

I actually don't hear it most of the time. I upgraded the CPU and case fans at the same time with Noctua industrial 3000rpm fans. Most of the time, they run at under 800rpm.

Most games like Windwaker HD, Twilight Princess HD and Mario Kart 8 barely budges the CPU. You'd have to really listen for the fans to hear it. It's BOTW that gets the fans going but even then, they're at 1400RPM with the system steady at 70C with the GPU hitting 94% at times. I think it's tolerable unless I'm playing at night with the volume down.

The 2070 Super Ventus was only $680, a 2080 Super is $300+ more?

I also only had 26cm of space and that was the only current card that would fit. Only other option was maybe a 2070 mini but I dunno about that single fan...

I put a set of Deepcool LED strips in mine. Before I had it in, it seemed really plain with only the AMD wraith fan lighting up a corner of the case.

Gigabyte's Fusion 2.0 software doesn't give you much subtle control, it's either solid or straight out flashing rainbow unicorn puke.

Anyone have a recommendation for a gaming laptop under $1500. I saw a lenovo at costco for $1300 with a gtx1650 but build quality seemed a little cheap.

I think the 1650 may be a little under powered. Check out Dave Lee on youtube and redflagdeals for a sale.

A bit more expensive, but I do have a Razer Blade 15 at cost from an Amazon price error for $2020.

15.6" 144Hz 1080p, i7-9750H, 16GB DDR4, GTX 1660TI, and 256GB/1TB storage combo.

LuHua 10-19-2019 01:51 PM

Been pretty indecisive on this, but I need to get a proper cooler back on my cpu (E5-1660V3/5960X), I have parts for a custom loop sitting on my shelf but an air cooler would be a safer choice for a workstation/home-server. Opinions?

FB6 10-19-2019 03:02 PM

Any recommendations for a budget workstation build for around $600? The PC will only be used for work.
