any suggestions for modular PSUs and video cards? im debating 2060 OC or 5700 which is $400 each roughly

Corsair RM series, EVGA G5, Seasonic Focus Plus Gold, etc.

Find a 80+ Gold that you like and cross-reference with Jonnyguru reviews. Most 550W+ that are above $100 are generally good.

Any recommendations for a 26” or bigger gaming monitor under $500?

not $500 or below, a bit over your budget since its the only monitor i tried around $500 or up lol.

the omen 27 inch 240hz monitor... around $700 or so

was the most fucking impressive monitor I have played overwatch in... 240hz felt godly lol

Mr.Money 02-06-2020 07:44 AM

no offense...but it really depends on you're reaction time before buying a high response time monitor like 144hz or 240hz.

i honestly seen some dog shit players either playing too high or not quick enough to really benefit from one,ton of other factors too if you're skill level isnt up to par.

also met a ton of god players using 60hz cause their budget wasn't enough...its an insane skill to predict player moves before they happen, but pros do it cause they know the timing 100% in games for movements...really blown away hearing top fraggers still using 60hz and just fucking slapping people.

Power supply on the other hand,Huge NO on trying to find a "Budget" friendly PSU....i almost made that mistake FailFish its something you're gonna be using long term so get at least a gold+ rated, dont give your computer build any chance to fuck you over on cheap low rated parts...you get what you pay for....could easily roast you're gpu, motherboard and ram with crap power supply.

SkinnyPupp 02-06-2020 03:43 PM

Getting a 144 Hz monitor was the biggest upgrade I've made in many years. Probably the biggest noticeable difference since switching from platter to SSD. I would recommend it to anyone who plays games at all, no matter how good they are.

I’ve used the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold and Corsair RM series in recent builds. The Seasonic seems really nice, the Corsair felt a little on the cheap side (Memory Express had the 850-watt on for a great price).

Looking for a new case for both my PC's. Anyone know if the NZXT cases are any good?

I currently have a Fractal Design C and another budget case

They make great cases. I have used a couple but some of them have a smart fan hub and the software for it sux big time.

Fractal Design cases are better IMO. Meshify C or Define Mini C are excellent and I'd take those over NZXT cases any day.

I'm currently using a Louqe Ghost S1, but I'm going to switch over to the Jonsbo A4 for the looks. Just waiting on the seller to ship it to a Taobao warehouse.

SkinnyPupp 02-07-2020 06:13 PM

+1 for Fractal over NZXT

NZXT were great when they first started

I’m surprised Lian Li isn’t more popular; seems no one carries them since NCIX went under. Still using mine from like 2008, still a really solid all-aluminum case.

Canada Computers carries Lian Li. They have an assortment of the newer cases like the TU-150 and 011 Dynamic.

I don't think they are as popular because they priced themselves out of the mainstream market. Hard to justify buying a Lian Li when you could get an excellent case for half the cost from like Corsair, Fractal Design, Cooler Master, etc.

Lian Li manufactures for NCASE/DAN Cases. I think you're more likely to see those than a Lian Li these days.

Sold my Louqe Ghost S1 along with my Intel i7-8700, and migrated over to a temporary NZXT H210 and a Ryzen 3600X (waiting for the Jonsbo A4 from Taobao).

These chips run very hot out of the box! Stock boost wattage was 128W and it was hitting 95 degrees in a Prime95 run at an all-core speed of 4GHz.

Changed the PPT to 65W and it's now running nice and cool without sacrificing much performance. 60 degrees in Prime95 with an all-core speed of 3.6GHz.

I can probably bump it up to the stock non-boost wattage of 95W and have it hover around 75 degrees and 3.8GHz, but I like it nice and quiet.

SkinnyPupp 02-09-2020 10:13 PM

Yup the 3600X is hot and the stock cooler is barely enough. Wish I hadn't thrown out all my old coolers, I'd finally have use for that Noctua D14 LUL

Mr.Money 02-18-2020 04:37 AM

i'm using a 120mm watercooled kit on my ryzen 5 1600x and it barely passes during warm summer days...the line, rad is warm to touch at 3.9ghz

anything bigger i would do my best to try a 240mm water cooler set-up,That should keep thing way better if you're going for the 4.0ghz or 4.1ghz.

I finally got my GPU fans sorted out. They still aren't really the correct ones but after burning one out trying to bench test it I pulled the sticker off and found out they put the plug on backwards. A quick repin and the fans no longer run full speed as soon as the driver loads so I'm happy.

underscore 02-25-2020 06:56 AM

Of course now my wifes GPU is acting up. Just browsing the web last night the screens went very screwy so I rehooted. Now when it gets past the Windows logo all the screens are black. Safe Mode works fine and if I use DDU I can get into Windows normally but as soon drivers install (either manually or automatically) the screens go black.

Is the card fried? I'll try older drivers tonight but the latest ones are from the beginning of the month so if they're not correct I would've expected the issue sooner. I know Windows Update likes to brick things these days as well but idk where to start with that. It's a GTX 770.

Had the 5700XT for a week. Ended up exchanging for a 2070S after constant driver issues. It was a beast of a card though; very close or even better numbers than the 2070S.

anyone know where i can find bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo? i'd like to free up 2 usb ports on my laptop but for whatever reason, BT sets are rare if not gone. I don't want a set that has a little usb receiver. (win10 notebook)

What's the current version of something like Hamatchi? I want to play some old multiplayer games with my brother but the servers no longer exist.
