What are your opinions on 21:9 monitor for gaming? Is the whole curved immersion thing legit or just hype? Is it novelty that wears itself out after a few months?
1440p is pretty much out of my budget, but 1080p res, outside of gaming, seems like a lot of physical space for not a whole lot more pixels to work with. Everything just looks bigger.
I currently have a 3x (super old 21") monitor set up right now. I love the setup, but I've had these monitors for so long now...

anyone manage to get one of the new AMD Ryzen 5000 series cpus this morning?
Ryzen 5 5600x beats core I9 10900k
think I may go with the 5800x or 5900x myself paired with the 6800 XT
but fuck it would be epic if someone got the 5950x and 6900 XT

Did a rare thing and bought Valhalla on launch day (Ubi offers 20% off when you use 100 "coins")
Ugh... might just wait until I can get rid of this damn 2060. This is at 1080p medium
Playable framerate at low, but still with some stuttering. It looks like an XBOX 360 game.
Don't listen to the youtubers or crap reviewers, the 2060 is not a good card for today's games.

New NVIDIA drivers came out yesterday, so you might want to try updating them if you haven't.
But yeah, Ubisoft titles on PC are known for being unoptimized garbage. You're almost always guaranteed stuttering and FPS drops.
Same thing is going on with Watch Dogs Legion where a RTX 3080 barely pushes 1440p/60FPS at ultra.

These are the latest drivers
And yeah, I usually hold off buying any games on launch day, especially Ubi games. But I was pretty hyped for this one, and had that 20% deal so... oops
I just hope AMD pulls through with good performance, and stock availability next week

Update: If you run in borderless windowed mode instead of full screen, it gets rid of the spikes. Still low frame rate, under 60 fps in towns, but more playable at least. Going to shelf the game until I get a new GPU.

Running the zotac 3070 until the msi 3080 gets in.
Impressive little card.
Still torn on whether I actually need an upgrade or not, even with cpu bottleneck my 2012 rig is still going strong.

I finally bought a better monitor been running like an school 60hz forever.
I got 1 x 144hz 1440 and 2 other monitors with the same profile so they'd match but the other two are only 75hz. I need 3 monitors for work. The photo makes the two on the end look longer but they aren't, just angled it's an illusion.
Gaming wise, makes a pretty big difference, should have done this a while ago.

Where's the best place to buy PC parts now?
I used to go to mem express or Canada Computers... the last rig I built, NCIX was still around and running strong.
But I've started doing a lot more online shopping over the past 5 years so do you guys suggest buying from online vendors instead?

If what I want isn't in-stock at Memory Express, then I'll hit up Amazon.
I try not to shop at Canada Computers unless I really have to. I hate their shit return policies and practices. One of their managers from an Ontario store was caught scalping RTX 3080s the other day.

I've got two of them and they wont discount Valhalla cause its a recent release. If performance is anything like Odyssey I hope I can get a consistent 60fps at ultra at least.

Came to $45 USD which is reasonable for a day 1 AAA game.
I disabled AA which looks really bad but it now mostly stays above 60 fps, except in towns where it dips to 50. Sucks because most fights take place in towns.
Because of this, I am focusing mostly on running around exploring the lands, rather than fighting and progressing the story. Fighting is NOT fun at 50 fps and below.

Why's the RTX 2060 so bad?
I feel like I'm already stretching my budget looking for something at that price point.
I've been eyeing the rx5600xt too but I've been reading up about bios issues.
I would think at that price point, I can get something good... cause $600-700 seems pretty steep to spend on a gpu that is only good enough to play today's games.

Is it "normal" that 4 year old cards like gtx1080 can outperform $400-500 gpu's on the market today? Has the industry always been like this or is it just a bad time to buy gpu right now cause more stuff is coming around the corner and prices will settle?
It just feels like back in the day, I would be able to get something pretty decent for around $350-400 and the card would last me another 1-2 years for the future.
I'm planning to buy parts for a new setup on Black Friday so trying to figure out what to get.

The cards being released this fall/winter are literally the cheapest/best performing released in years

The cards being released this fall/winter are literally the cheapest/best performing released in years | Well for $500, I can get something like the 5600xt or rtx2060 (based on memory express prices).
Where are you seeing the 3070 for $500?
BestBuy has it at $680-760. Although they're all sold out anyway.
What is considered cheapest/best in today's standard? I haven't been in the pc building market in many years.

What is considered cheapest/best in today's standard? I haven't been in the pc building market in many years. | Sorry we're talking about different currencies here... For me by default $ = USD... I'll be referring to USD in this post:
The 3070 MSRP is $500. (being sold out notwithstanding, that's the price when it's available) The 1080 MSRP was $600 when it came out
So are we looking at $500-600 price range? If so, things have come a long way since the 1080 came out 3-4 years ago. The 3070 kills the 1080 and even the $700 1080 Ti.
If you're comparing $300 cards of today to $600 cards from 3 years ago, the performance is going to be closer, sometimes even lower due to raw horsepower (lower compute units)
So you have to decide what you're comparing here...
As for what's "best" it all depends on your budget. If you can afford a $500 card, you are looking at the 3070 from Nvidia or 6800 from AMD. Either of those is going to have far superior performance over either new console. You'll be able to game at 1400p or 4K with higher settings than the new consoles can achieve. (they will have faster storage unless you upgrade that as well)
If your budget is lower, you might want to wait until cards in that price range are released on the new technology. Because a $300 card based on this technology will be a lot better than $300 cards from 3 years ago.
If you're looking to approximately match the new consoles (assuming the rest of your PC is already modern), you'll be looking at the 2060 Super probably, maybe a 2070. In either case, I'd recommend waiting. (and again the storage speed will not match either console although it will come close with a fast NVM-E drive)

Not worth buying a last generation card brand new now.
I'd probably recommend a used 5700XT/2070S if you're looking at the 450-550 CAD range. These cards are only about a year old, so even used will still have a lot of warranty.
That or spend a bit more and get the 6800/3060TI that are coming out.

I remember buying a 7770 for $80 and being good to go for a few years lol.
I've played GW2, Sniper Elite 3, AoE, PUBG and a couple others with 3 monitors. Some games handle the immersion better than others, GW2 does a good job of it but PUBG just zooms in to fill the space so I actually see less and it's awkward to play.
