$1000 for a 3070? You must REALLY want that card! |
More than you can afford, pal. Ampere |
I bought a 3070 FE for $760 taxes in and sold it to my friend at cost since he needed an upgrade. The ASUS ROG tax is real. |

It's a sad time to be building a computer. All these new generation of parts and no supply which drive up price. |
yep thinking i'll finish this build and that'll be it for the foreseeable future wasn't that long ago when $300 got a you quite a bit of graphics performance like i'm glad advancements finally caught up again but at what price tag the mining from 2017 ruined everything |

Had triple Radeon HD 5850s in Crossfire before that but I got one of them for free and the other two were significantly discounted through AMD’s retail partner program. I think I paid a grand total of around $250-$300 for the set back in 2010 (plus like $100 for a Phenom II X6 1090T BE) Before that, I had an 8800 GT that I think I got for about $200 (I actually ordered a 7900 GT or maybe GTX on Boxing Day from NCIX but they shipped it to the wrong address. They ended up sending me the 8800 in its place since they had no 7900s left). |
Went to Memory Express in Burnaby yesterday. Trying to buy Gaming chair. They are closed down, Note on their door says, "Not enough staff to keep store open till Dec xxx date" Very strange!!!! |
Interesting video here trying to match PS5 performance on various GPUs: TL;DW It takes a 1080 Ti or (3060 Ti) to match PS5 in the cutscene they chose (where the FPS bottoms out at 51 on the PS5) Also they explain how the "AA" works on the PC version, it basically just scales down your resolution a bit. "High AA" just means "native resolution". Adaptive res will swap between these settings trying to maintain a frame rate. Consoles get a much more robust version of this. Also this confirms the cloud setting I found - the difference between Ultra and Very High is negligible (like literally no difference), but leads to a huge FPS drop. Actually they found even High is fine |
Please help... Anyone have any advice: My laptop isn't detecting my NVMe. Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-54-59A8) - https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/acer-ni.../6000201549681 Blue SN550 M.2 PCI-E NVMe SSD, 500GB - https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX80114 My version of the Nitro 5 comes with a 1TB HHD and I'm trying to put in the NVMe (and clone the OS later). This is my first time installing a M.2, but I figured it's not rocket science. It only goes in one way and I've watched tutorials on YouTube. The laptop has 2 slots, one that's PCIE and one that's PCIE/SATA. I tried both slots and the NVMe isn't being detected. BIOS isn't detecting it, I tried installing Macrium Reflect and it's not detecting it. Any suggestions on what I can do? I bought this for my wife and promised I can make this laptop faster (with the NVMe) but this POS is so slow right now, I want to drop kick it into the street and I've only had it for like a week. @$!%!! It also takes literally 4 minutes to restart so I don't know what's up with that. FWIW, the NVMe feels warm after running the laptop for a bit. So does that mean it's at least connected properly? |

I was just at that location on Monday to pick up a monitor. Maybe they shut down as soon as BF/CM ended. |
m.2 is just a connector type nvme will need to go into pcie slot i remember it was quite the leg work upgrading from a sata m.2, something to do with ahci mode or secure boot, play around with the bios settings |
The only thing I can guess is you have your UEFI set to BIOS legacy mode or something |
Confirm that it's not DOA first by trying it in another computer. |

From the several tutorials I've watched, it's pretty much plug and play. https://i.imgur.com/HjxeHwx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3QUlVyq.jpg Newb question: The top pins on these sticks don't need to make contact with anything? It doesn't slide in anymore than that. It says Secure Boot Enabled (and I can't change this setting) And Boot Mode UEFI. https://i.imgur.com/4lANWzr.jpg Quote:

Does the screw go in with it like that? In that photo it looks like it won't and the drive isn't in all the way. |
In most situations, it should just work and you shouldn't need to tinker with any BIOS settings. You can try loading the optimized default settings and restarting your computer. Out of curiosity, what's under advanced settings? I would try to get a replacement if it's seated properly and you don't have another computer to test with. Check that's it actually inserted all the way as underscore suggested. |
I assume you had the drive installed and screwed in at first, but in the picture you posted it's not fully seated. Compare the two: https://i.imgur.com/j89lDIe.png |
If I remember right, they go in at a bit of a steeper angle than you'd think and then hinge down. It took me a few tries since I wasn't used to computer parts going together like that. I may be wrong though, I've only installed one of thise drives and that was back in Feb. |
Well fuck me... I just had to use some muscle and push it in deeper at the right angle :) Note to self: If the top pins are still showing, push it in more. Thanks for all your help. |
Looks like it's installed properly. I wouldn't go by the pins being exposed. Going by the hole alignment is most accurate since they're standardized in terms of length, which is 80mm. I'd assume DOA. Can't confirm without testing it in another PC. Try for a replacement. |
Need some help on building a 30TB capacity RAID 10 home server. I currently have a 24TB home server just running on Intel Pentium G4400 and 16GB ram with Windows 10 Pro. I use it to store my pics and videos for my work and some family stuff. I was lazy and cheap out on this set up. So, i didn't put too much mind and $$ in this system. Until few of my drives died...lost valuable files on those drives. Now, I am thinking to build a usable 30TB capacity with RAID 10. Also, trying to improve performance. Some of raw Video files are more than 100GB. Few question i have 1. Does it have to be server CPU ? like Xeon ? Will I7 6700K (Got one laying around) be enough ? 2. I heard people are saying Hardware RAID is dead, most people use software raid ?? But I thought Hardware RAID is must faster. For the system, CPU + MOBO + RAM +RAID CARD with budget of $1000 Appreciate it if anyone can help me on this. |
if it’s just archive should be fine unless you’re making it transcode 300mbps 4k120 uncompressed videos |
